How to make a Line/Vertical flower arrangement - FLORISTRY/FLOWER ARRANGING - Using AGRAWOOL

  • The Line/Vertical flower arrangement is often the first arrangement we learn as florists and flower arrangers and it teaches us the basic skills needed to start arranging flowers. You'll find several version of the Line/Vertical arrangement on the channel and this series of tutorials is aimed at a more intermediate level.
In this tutorial I use Agra-Wool, a fairly new type of floral foam is made from 100% natural products. Should the material no longer be (re)used, it can be deposited in small pieces in the compost bin. Basalt meal is a very good soil improver, any garden will be happy with it. The shredded parts will decompose into basaltic flour under conditions such as heat, cold, moisture, drought and other weather conditions. This is similar to fine sand.
This type of mechanic is far better for the environment than traditional floral foam.
This 'improvers' range of videos uses basic supermarket flowers, so you can try and recreate the designs at home. This bunch has come from ASDA, a UK supermarket.
If you are new to arranging, take a few minutes to view my Back to Basics series which will explain how to create a very all round arrangement using a minimal amount of flowers.

Thank you another informative video. It is helpful to see supermarket flowers being used.I usually find it difficult to fill in my greenery so your explanation was very helpful .😊

Sharon, I love your videos and feel I am learning so much THANKYOU, one simple request, when you are filming could you arrange against a plainer background. You have a funky white arrangement in the back ground, and it kept getting involved so we couldn’t see you beautiful slim line arrangement, hope you don’t mind my saying, thanks again.😉

Thanks Andrew. Unfortunately I often don't notice how the arrangement blends into the background until it's too late!! 😠

What a lovely design! I have a vase here at home, so will give this a try! Thank you for inspiration and using the UK foliage - so welcoming to see our garden foliage being used. The Pussy Willow just adds the height. Amazing what that little extra does!

Thanks again Julie - I would love to use more British foliage but I don't have a supply of anything exciting.

Thank you, that really helps me. I have been wanting to make an arrangement using just sunflowers and foliage but I was quite nervous to use the larger flowers (I usually stick with carnations and roses). I will give this a try🌞

This style of arrangement is great for sunflowers. Just remember they have very thick stems and the flower heads are heavy. Good luck 🤞

I am learning so much about creating flower arrangements by watching your videos. However, the white flowers in the background vases distract from the floral arrangement you are creating in this video. Nevertheless, you have created another beautiful floral arrangement.
It is good to be introduced to a more environmentally friendly way to support the floral material.

Thanks for you're lovely comments and I understand about the flowers in the background. you'll find in the newer tutorials there is no distraction behind me.

Enjoyed the demo very informative. Only problem I had is the flowers behind the arrangement blurred with the design so didn’t see the vertical cleanly.

I purchased a jug online to try this arrangement but it's more like a pitcher with a wider base. Would this design still work or have you another tutorial than would suit the shape better.
