I moved to Greenville from Chicago in late 2022. I looked for 5 years for the area I wanted to retire to and Greenville checked all of the boxes for me. Cost of living, weather, restaurants, the downtown is incredibly beautiful, so many outdoor activities, great healthcare in Greenville. For those still looking take a real close look at this great city and you will fall in love with it. My only regret is I did not find it sooner.

I Love Greenville so much. My wife and I are moving to Central SC from Virginia next year after I retire. We visited Greenville for the first time in March and I told my wife that we will be spending a lot of time here when we move. I even told her that Greenville is so beautiful that I couldn't believe it hadn't made some kind of best list and then I saw this and I wasn't surprised.
I loved walking around downtown and we especially loved Falls Park.

I'm a native to Greenville. The development of downtown has been beautiful to watch. The new restaurants and businesses are nice. It's a beautiful place. However, due to the constant influx of people we are getting priced out of our homes. The trend of retirees and remote workers has over doubled our cost of living, without increasing our wages. My rent was $800 a month 4 years ago, it's $1700 now. So the welcoming Southern hospitality is turning into anger and resentment. Also the infrastructure has undergone massive development in the last 10 years, but it is completely overwhelmed by the sheer number of people. Most of the farm land and rural areas surrounding Greenville are being turned into subdivisions. So please, if you come here, start a business and hire people and pay them a reasonable wage. Otherwise, please move on to a different area. Also our state taxes are atrocious. Just FYI.

I live in Simpsonville. Love the small town feel. Driving to Greenville is about 15 minutes. Greenville eatery is many and culturaly diverse. They are constantly building new homes. I also like the festivals and the flea markets.

I drove to the east from California looking for our dream home. I'm here, right now in Greenville. Based on the California-like traffic, I believe that everyone is moving to Greenville. But not us. I'm trying to get away from the traffic. We visited Falls Park this morning. Nice move locking the public restrooms. I visited Greer yesterday, since my last name is Greer. Try finding a parking spot.

Enough is enough..When I see all the new developments, that I clearly remember all of our greenery.Which is now condos, patio homes etc..I am more concerned with all the displaced animals. Can not drive more than 10 mins without seeing a dead deer, racoon, possums etc..Every tree that is cut down was potentially someones home...I had an owl, that's right an owl fly into the back seat of my car...Reid school rd is perhaps one of the major sites I am referring to.There are about 20 separate condos,Apts or whatever it is gonna be, some of them will house 8 to 10 family's per building..Do the math..On the 2 lane rd..Oh sure I see a red-light is being put in place but do the math people...Is our infrastructure really ready for all of this ??? Sewer system , crappy roads already etc...Lets not forget the homeless ..They are really adding up.Heard a guy from California say just the other day that they moved here bc it is cheaper to live in SC and he says, I can hardly see any difference. That's right, the more people that move here the higher everything becomes..I speak for a very large amount of locals..✌️

local grown here: Most of the video is accurate, its a beautiful place and a great place for my family. Some context will help. Near the end of the video they show #5,6, 7 on the lists. you also see a glimpse of the population numbers. It says 77K for the city of Greenville. A relatively small number but the key word is "city". Just outside those city lines, the population density skyrockets. I'm guessing the county is closer to 500K. Traffic is horrible and the people who can fix it are slow to move in any direction. The housing inventory has been low for 5 years. house values have skyrocketed since Covid started. Weather is great most of the time and we get all forms of it. If you just got here, welcome to town!

Don’t move to the Upstate of South Carolina if you expect virgin forests. Boutique cities, and southern hospitality.
The city fathers have turned it into just another concrete jungle with crowded highways, with subpar homes being slapped together.

    Lived here all my life
I genuinely dont understand why people move here and never will. There is really nothing here. And its so hard to find a job. Especially a good paying one. All these people moving here just make our lives worse by making it all more expensive to live.
Infrastructure cant keep up. Traffic is super bad. It has absolutely exploded in the last 3 years. Any reason to move here has evaporated.
All these new houses are very very very very poorly built. I walk in them when they are being built and so many flaws. Do people not think at all when buying these houses? I could see lights from other rooms under the walls! They are made of the cheapest materials possible with no space at all.
Greenville is pretty but its starting to become a place only for the disgusting privilege and elite. Its horrible. Even the towns around it arent safe. I have seen it only get worse year after year. It breaks my heart Ill never be able to afford to live here on my own. Its completely failed. Its all downhill.

Greenville is my hometown. Yes, there has always been many folks from the entire tri-state area of NYC in G'ville. The influx of folks from "up north" to G'ville has sort of been overlooked because of the larger cities of Atlanta and Charlotte. We've always has NY and NJ folks moving here from way back when I was in school and I'm an old man at 52.
