  • Tara Brach - Relating Wisely to Desire - 8/10/11
Without desire, this world would not exist. While this universal energy is entirely natural, if we are not mindful of it, desire can become a narrowed fixation or addiction that creates deep suffering.
This talk explores the ways we can pay attention that honor this energy without allowing it to cut us off from presence and possess us.

Thank you Tara. I needed this lesson on longing and belonging, It is fun that not only are we not separate but there is no time. You recorded this 10 years ago and it speaks so clearly to me today. (-:)

A brilliant talk Tara. Thanks. This all makes sense to me. There are so many temptations out there. You have to be strong here. Insecurity comes into the equasion.

A slight bias toward matter? More like a bias toward experience with the phenomena we call matter as the medium perceived by the 'us'. Well actually the laws of physics are the laws of consciousness. Where does that take you? Maybe the Buddhist iconic "emptiness" is actually fullness? Full of existence aware of itself maybe...and with the desire to return to this wholeness when painfully identified with the matter that physics proposes? Just an intuition. An intuition that Nisargadatta has entertained as well.

Really lovely but if I may nitpick, it didn't need the pseudo scientific injection of intent at the beginning (in both senses.) Had it not been that way we wouldn't be here to know. Those of us of a scientific bent struggle with this. And I'm a man that usually doesn't attack other countries and is unfortunately quite articulate about feelings.
