Stormgate is Frost Giant Studios' love letter to classic RTS games and a work of passion and dedication from our team. Early Access is an essential milestone in our journey, but far from the final destination. This initial release, which features competitive 1v1, the start of our ever-evolving campaign, 3P co-op missions, and custom games, is only the beginning. We plan on telling more stories, introducing new game modes, and sharing the tools we've been using to build our game with the community.

The broad strokes art style does nothing for me, but I'm still going to check it out. It does look much better than it did.

@@melonytoni9016 how tf do you look at this trailer and still arrive at this conclusion? Some people are straight moronic. Listen, I get not digging the design direction, but the graphics are, within the art direction, crisp and cool at this point in time. As for the style itself, it doesn't even look that much more cartoony (in gameplay) compared to SC2, and looks less cartoony than WC3, which was never accused of looking like a "mobile game".

Still needs 1-2 years and a different non-mobile artstyle for it to live up to what it claims to be.

@@ZverseZgame play comes before graphics and it's not $50 million is $38 mil which is not very much for AAA game development. Starcraft 2 had at least $100 million which is $144 million today. Frost Giant is indie and not AAA though so expecting the game to look as good as sc3, if it even existed, before full release is illogical.
Those fantasy elements were a mistake imo.

@@genarl1355 The humans seem fully sci-fi. Imo it's a recipe for disaster. You either do fantasy or sci-fi. You can add some sci-fi or magitech to fantasy, but when you start adding fantasy to sci-fi, more than in miniscule amounts (like some psionic powers that are still scientific in nature) it all falls apart imo.
Fantasy crowd will not be interested in this game, as there's nothing of the traditional fantasy here.
Sci-fi crowd will not be interested as they want SCI-FI, alien races, not demons. It can only work in sth like DOOM where you just wipe them all out.
Unless the gameplay is absurdly, incredibly good, I can already tell you this is gonna flop.
@@Kvantovy Couldn't agree more. and even referencing Doom for a minute part of the reason that worked so well thematically especially from doom 2 onwards was that the vast majority of demons are heavily cybernetically enhanced. The demons here look like a horrible mix of orcs and undead from warcraft 3 with zero attempt to even make them tie into a sci-fi setting.

Every does what they will, I prefer sc2 for graphics but if they want do a cartoonish game well is their choice

People who judge rts games only of its cover are not enough rts experience to comment here. This game mechanics and especially Celestial Armada gameplay in 1v1 is so damn cool and fresh new in rts! Love this game. Greetings, Forcefield (played 14 years sc2).

Wow the game graphics are now only a little bit behind StarCraft 2... Which is really really old.
RTS games never had amazing graphics. They are mostly about gameplay though.

AoE 2 Remaster has incredibly detailed 2D graphics. Most RTS in the gold age had great graphics and pushed the PCs for their time.
Devs became just lazy or unable over time.

I never saw anyone calling out SC2 as being cartoony, perhaps in style or design but definitely not in general graphics.
Yeah SG is pre-2010 mobile graphics that dont run great on current day hardware but it really doesn't matter to people with no standards indeed. Go buy a 4090 so you can hit that sweet 60 FPS xD
Oh and it also has less factions and content to make up for it. Wowie.

I backed it. Never doing that for a game again. Worst waste of money ever. Never pre-paying for a game again. Specially when they take your money and after the transaction is complete, tell you that your purchase is actually only getting you the start of the game, but you’ll need to fork over hundreds more for the rest as it releases content on a vague schedule that probably will pop up whenever the FrostGiant boys start running out of the money us stupid backers already have them.
It’s amazing these are the same people from classic Blizzard, because they stole this one from Activision’s playbook, then amped it up to 11.

This looks significantly improved compared to the initial release. I'll check it out, but so far, Gates of Pyre has my full attention.

I am loving the game so far, i would love to see Cosmetics being usable in Custom Games. Cause currently, i could only use it in Co Up and 1v1 matches.

@@SttravagaNZza depends on the game mode, for arena yes I guess so but I don't think they said there was a hard cap. But in custom games for a heroes only mode then it's like a giant rpg, or maybe wave defense, tower defense, giant moba, moba battle royal with creeps, etc.

you can take it on cloud gaming (Nvidia Geforce Now) it's not really expansive. I do that on MAC for gaming

You can't compare Stormgate with W3. W3 has heros with abilities and items so gameplay needs to be slow otherwise you can't react.

Not at all. AI is a huge improvement, tech capabilities are way more than SC2. Yes the graphics aren't just like SC. But this is a different game.

@@leedolian4482 If you want to play the game in a year or two then you should be concerned about finances. With Frost Giant's burn rate of $1M per month, the people who actually like the game are going to have to gift heroes and digital chicken to all their friends and family to keep this studio afloat.

Man I am so excited to play this with my boys :D I already know I'm going to lose a huge chunk of my life to this game, and I'm ok with that.
Love the clean graphics, easy to identify the unit profiles and the action, unit pathing looks fluid and superb, HYPED for a fresh campaign and co-op! I’ll dabble in competitive because I love multiplayer too, but I’ll never be a pro 😅

Not at all, not even in the slightest. Terrible take. Did you ever played Warcraft? It had a unique and charming artstyle, not Fortnite/Mobile like everything else and had far, far more content that was also original and not a copy of another game.
I say warcraft mixed with starcraft Gameplay with a little bit inspiration from Diablo with its aesthetics and factions

@@allanshpeley4284 I can agree with that actually. I have been having alot of fun with Starcraft 2 and Company of Heroes 3, but RTS have become somewhat forgotten by the public, since it was a leading genre in early days of gaming and it fell of really bad since the release of Starcraft 2
