TAWANDA, Top 5 Finalist for 2021 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition.
Tawanda delivers a powerful rendition of this Thelonious Monk classic composed around 1945 and first recorded on October 24, 1947, for the "Genius of Modern Music" sessions. Originally titled "Manhattan Moods", the tune was later retitled "Ruby, My Dear" after Rubie Richardson, Monk's first love and his older sister Marion's best friend. The re-titling was not for nostalgic reasons, but for better phrasing. The lyrics were written by Sally Swisher.
This performance was captured live as part of the Steamers Jazz at JAX Artist Showcase hosted by Terence Love and Tony Guerrero at Campus JAX in Newport Beach, CA. Tawanda is accompanied by some of the finest players in Los Angeles including:
    Josh Nelson, piano
    Alex Frank, bass
    Ryan Shaw, drums
Atypically, but perfect considering the circumstances of 2020, the Steamers Jazz at JAX Artist Showcase is all performed outdoors in the Sunset Dinner Theatre, aka parking lot of Campus JAX. The space actually works very well thanks to the elegant staging, lighting and natural ambient surroundings provided by Mark Wood Entertainment with the amazing audio support provided by QSC.
    A JAX ENTERTAINMENT PRODUCTION:
Tim Ellis and Tony Guerrero-- Executive Producers
    Terence Love-- Steamer-in-Chief
Golden Preciado-- Live Audio and Recording Mix
    John Nguyen-- Video Editorial
TAWANDA is an emerging bright light in the world of Jazz and is 1 of 5 finalists in the 2020 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition.
