I think the mic'd up cab has a more authentic, natural sound. The emulated one sounds good, for an emulation, but it has a grittines/fizziness that I tend to avoid at all costs to be honest.
Would you recommend the x1 after all this time? I'm coming from a Yamaha THR10x... Thought the Spark would be a good choice to save money on all sorts of pedals but thinking I should return it and redirect the funds. I can get one of these priced similarly, possibly a legacy drive too, but the x1's features may be better for me as a bedroom guitarist, I'm not entirely sure, the tube world is entirely new to me.
I would! It sounds as good now as it did when I recorded the video - haha. It is a quality sound, easy to use direct in, or in the loop of an amp, or with a separate power amp. The versatility is very good. The X1 and VLD1 have quite different sounds. The VLD1 is much darker, and that is inescapable, you can't dial it out. The X1 different, it's more trebley and upper mid heavy, so it is just a question of taste. The 5 band eq on the X1 makes it more versatile.
I'm not sure what you mean - if by 1w power amp you mean the emulated cab out, then yes! Where it is pointed out in the video, contrasted to the microphone used with a cab.
@@CraigShuttGuitar cool. What I mean is the out that say 1w on the x1. On a video of the tone king i see him plugin it directly to the cab, so thats why i was wondering
@@terribleligadelmal4541 Yes I do that here! That's what the comparison is for, really - to see if plugging in direct is as high a quality sound as a cab and microphone. Thanks.
@@CraigShuttGuitar So, for clarification, which output on the back did you use for the simulated cab? The 1 watt "speaker" output or the regular output jack? Thanks!
Both sound good. Do you see pros/cons to either?

@@CraigShuttGuitar you could always use an eq pedal with the Legacy Drive .. its lead channel is a thing of beauty .. but so is the this one .. lol
so this is the x1 1watt poweramp to the cab or did you use another poweramp?

Umm, just realized the cab-voiced output is on the side and I assume that's the output you used for the simulated cab. :)
