  • Mold can grow in your attic. Typically we see mold growth on the roof deck. This occurs in the winter when warm conditioned air escapes into the cold, unconditioned attic and meets with the cold roof deck causing condensation. This can be evidenced by rusty nails, or staining on the roof deck. In the summer attic mold can occur as the vented attic space allows hot, humid air to enter the attic increasing the relative humidity. The wood framing and roof deck absorb this moisture carried in by humid air resulting in mold growth. You may experience symptoms in your home such as high energy bills, uneven temperatures, or your HVAC running frequently. While these symptoms don't always mean you have mold in your attic, it is a sign that you are losing air you are paying to heat and cool to your unconditioned attic. If you notice any of these symptoms in your home, call us to schedule your free home energy evaluation.
