Quake II in

- In the beginning, there was a community of Quake II runners, with nothing else to do. One of them said "Let there be run!" and roughly one year after that, it appeared.
They initially thought that the final time would be 18:xx, but one of them disagreed and thought a high 17 would be more accurate because of the new strats!
But nay! A time of 17:13 was the most appropriate, to the shock of the runners, who grinded all the levels over 230 000 times, blessed be them who sacrifice their sanity for the purity of the Speed.
*TL:DR. This run is segmented, it was a pain to grind, but we are so happy to finally show this segmented run to You.

A Strogg farted...
You crazy rocketman!
I think I saw a bit o' man?
Game: Yellow lasers still activated. Further access not granted
Runner: nah
A bug/glitch?
That's why they call him a TRESSPASSER
@@tidzej5400 Kinda. Player is going so fast it doesn't register a hit. On frame one, player is behind the laser, next frame, player is in front of the laser, you were technically never hit.
Game: Access to Big Gun not granted
Player: ...and I took that personally
"Trespass... where'd he go"
That was 18 minutes of my life well spent.
Got Quake 2 for my birthday January 1998. I was 13 years old. I opened it in the morning, and then went to school looking forward to hyper blasters. This run was very nostalgic.
:)
me too
I remember when my brother brought Quake 2 i was around 10 years old. First impression - i was shocked about brutality :d i rmember these torture chambers that did little impact on me as a kid lol :D one of the best FPS ever :)
@@panas1122 I was 9 years old, my godfather was watching me and was laughing a lot how scared I was :D I was scared shitless of mutants, I just couldnt face them, same with the iron maidens. After finishing Quake 2 we played Quake 1, now that was horrifying back then :D

Imagine being a Strogg. It's 12:05, and you break for Quizno's. You're just starting your sandwich at 12:20, and you get a text from work that the war's over. Apparently you left some guy named Bitterman alive at a crash site.
Then you get chosen to be the next Makron, only to be killed by a half Strogg, half human hybrid.
In the intro: "We wished them luck and god speed as well." Yeah, that's some god speed alright.
😆 I love the frequent use of strogg heads as mode of transport
Somewhere in the strogg command center:
- Where is the enemy?
- We don't know, he is everywhere!
Game: "Collect Power Cubes to..."
This guy: "NO"
This game is amazing to this day. Its very well made compared to modern standards. Other than using strafe-jumping, rocket-jumping and grande boosts there are no other bugs that can be exploited. No clipping through walls, no out of bounds, no other glitches. Just pure mechanical skill. Great run and great game.
@@RdTrler well yeah those require near perfect jump crouches but that's still not like they actually broke the game via out of bounds stuff
@@RdTrler they didn't flew "through". They flew between lasers. It's like a completely different thing
Wrong. On q2dm1 you can rocket grenade jump into the sky and get 'stuck in the sky'. There's also double jumping, which you can see on this speed run.
Quake II is one of my favorite game ever. And this is REALLY impressive!

@@multiplayerlove TROY! HITTO!
Amazing record! Love that this run has more strafejumping then the others!
yea its cool game did you played quake 1 ??
damn you john carmack and id software, thank you for bringing quake franchise to life. Still today I sometimes go back to q1 and q2 to strafe jump and bhop the hell out of the levels, there's just so much fun in it I never get tired of it, even after all these years. No other game accomplished that (apart from hl1)
Oh God even after more than 10 years I still remember almost all of these areas, and the enemy sounds too. Damn
Ten years? Did you play it in like 2010 or something? I remember all of it straight from the 90s and I love this game to this day
@@KeksimusMaximus I did say more than 10 but to be more accurate I played it in the early 2000's when we got one of the first computers in our state.

Speedruners: nop
Amazing work! I never realized just how perfect this game is for speedrunning. Impressive that such a "long" game that takes week to complete as a beginner, can be done in 17 minutes. There's so many cool tricks going on, it's hard for me to even keep track of, although I played this game 100 times as a kid. I love the rocket launcher boosts and the ingenious huge shortcuts used! Great job. Very impressive and entertaining run!
Although it would have been even more enjoyable with the original music and visible FPS gun. Awesome!
Q2pro doesn't support music as far as I know, unfortunately. Thanks tho!
@@GL-iy7mj You're "brainfluid"? .. great job man!

Back in my days this game had load times.
It still has, albeit minimal. This is a segmented run, so they skipped loading times for our sake
back then clq
Something needs to be said about how well optimized Id games were back in the day. This and Quake 1 ran flawlessly on my toaster back then.
Yeah but to be real, what was flawlessly really? 15 FPS low res?
@@TheJayson8899 Crispy and delicious, exactly how I like it.
@@TheJayson8899 flawlessly means it can run on windows 11 just straight out of the box 23 years later without fan patches or any other dos box fuckery. I don't know many games that do that.
@@KeksimusMaximusI remember getting my first graphics card in the late 90s and it being a big deal that I didn’t have to run games in software mode anymore lol. Getting everything to work properly was the fun part. Now my cheap work laptop can run this maxed out no problem. Pretty cool to see how far hardware and software have come over the years.
@@KeksimusMaximusthat’s impressive, yes, but that’s not what the original comment said nor was it what I was referring to.
10% shooting enemies
90% strafe jumping past enemies at the speed of light
i like the part where he says hup
"HUH-HUH-HUH computer: the game"
Since Any% (Easy) is the big main category, and this run is Any% (Easy), we're not really planning a new and improved run.
We are however planning to make runs of other, less serious (but faster ofc) categories, like QWmod, and brainfluid wants to make a cheated any% segmented run.
We'll see what the future holds. :))))))
This is simply awesome : o
Deserves way more attention.
I just beat this for the first time last night. Amazing game! Took me 6.4 hours according to Steam. I tip my hat to you that was a great run and gave me some ideas for my next play through!
Q2 power 🦾
Excellent work. Well done.
This is incredible! Great work to all those who participated! Do you plan on doing any other runs?
Or co-op? MHMHMH???
Incredible segmented run alot of fun to watch knowing older routes and tricks. Lots of swag rocket jumps and some grenades too. I think this run will stand for a while knowing the limitations of the game. Despite the flaws in the game still a great run to watch and to play. Cheers to all those who made it happen.
Thank you
This was insanely sick! That RJ, dope
8:03 I screamed
This has made me laugh more than once knowing you can do all of this with time and patience.
Way 2 Go. Wow you are amazing good job.
Amassing. Great work.
My daughter just played Quake 2 for the first time. She did a lot better than I did when it first came out.
"Blessed be them who sacrifice their sanity for the purity of the speed." Aaaaaaaameeeeeeen
Right after the crash:
- Bitterman, do you copy?
18 minutes later:
- lol, nvm
It was very nostalgic to me, gg bro
worth the wait lads ^^
Love how the runners delay jumping and change their direction with minimal speed loss.
Q2dm1 freaks will know ✊ nicely executed, saluted
This is art.
Woooooow . . . Enjoyable Beyond . . . Masters . . . Thanks !
Spectacular!
The editing is supreme m8.
congrats!
Un grand bravo pour cette superbe performance !!!
It’s funny seeing the strogg getting into fights from shooting each other since the player is moving so fast
Great job! :)
IMPRESIONANTE!!!
I remember me and my good mate Ali, trying to get the best speeds possible, then we saw the videos that others had done...
Kind of brought it home just how impossible it would be for either of us to get even remotely close to their speeds.
I managed Q1 in about an hour and 15 minutes and Q2 in just under 3 hours.
One thing I might do however, is Dawn Of War... Maybe from the first up to SoulStorm, I can complete them in silly times, but alas, I am not sure if its worth trying?

I used to play this and Jazz Jackrabbit II all the time. This game was so much fun though...really intense and great FPS action.

This is how I'd like to run in my nightmares
I just got this in my recommendations after playing the remaster in coop with some friends.
astonishing
masterpiece..
Imagine being the guy that follows Bitterman on that green screen back in HQ. Dude just crash landed miles off LZ and is currently WRC'ing through entire planetary defense like a rally stage.
My respect.

Great job guys, fucking a.
quake 2 has the best movement/jump physics
4:23 - is that an enemy animation glitch? he seems to be all flattened for a short while!
Speedrunner was moving at such high speeds that the shock wave flattened his body.
yeah, that's some general relativity shit
Quake 2 uses per-vertex mesh deformation, instead of (what would later become) the standard skeletal animation. This sort of thing happens when a mesh's vertices interpolate between two poses that are too different from one another.
This run is so fast that it distort space
16:19 Looooooool

amazing
I remember getting this game as a demo in a PC Gamer.. Fun stuff. You blew past it pretty quick. I remember meeting some big boss in a big, wide open space though. This was when I was like 8 :P
I think you might be referring to the Tank. The demo version had a modified Unit 1, featuring the Tank as a boss at the end. In the full version you just fight regular enemies before exiting the level.
Stroggs: We're the supreme species in the universe.
Bitterman: Huo!
FUCKING AMAZING!
I've played this game since it came out and still can't figure out these huge model mounting jumps (goomba jumps) to get height. I can never have it line up correctly at 90 MPH. I wonder what the current record is for the newest Q2 remaster on steam?
Those quad damage boosts tho!!!!!
А был же прикол когда я проходил 1-2 локации вот так. Сейчас это называется спидран 😂. В мою молодость это называлось"экономия времени" 😅
I got dizzy quickly watching this.
Excellent my friend.. Can do with the new RTX Quake2 ? TY!!
Это моя первая 3 d игра. До этого играл только в Mario😊или танчики...
i would donate money to this dude. that's some genius shit
The world of speedrunning is full of mind blowing experiences. Look up tool assisted speedruns for example. They're the fastest runs of the game that are possible to achieve.
Mind you, not all games have these kind of speedruns, but if you do find some - you're in for a show.
Awesome. It would be cool to see something like this attempted on coopordie. It's like the normal campaign but much harder than the max difficulty.
This is how Bitterman defeated the Makron in Canon.
I love how valve took this game engine and modified the hell out of it. Awesome speed run though!
They took the first game's engine, not this one.
