She seems like such a nice person... I just wanted to hug her. I felt so bad for her. She is so positive and this can happen to anyone. We are human beings. I seriously can't think about that someone can actually not like her. This almost made me cry. Now she is happier... Or at least I think she is... She is truly an amazing person!
The humane society in Canada has the same rules. I guess because of all the effort and money that goes into these pet rescues, they've appointed themselves god over what happens to them forever after. I don't blame them but it does spoil gift giving for people who are kind to animals like Ellen - all the credit and blame goes to animal abusers.
@@ziggilypiggily that's so true. All rescues have that in their contract, that if you can't care for the animal anymore it has to be returned to the rescue. It's unfortunate though that they couldn't have just assessed her friends family and let them keep Iggy. But I guess if that did that, then it would leave precedent for it happening again.
@@ziggilypiggily The reason that shelters do this is because many people have bought animals as "gifts" and then give them away after a week to someone who could possibly not know anything about caring for that animal, not be financially stable enough to cover vet bills, neglectful or abusive homes, etc. Many people toss their pets out onto the street so a lot of shelters actually get old animals coming back in from the street after being adopted. There are so many things to consider when adopting a pet, these are sentient lives at our mercy. It's the shelter's duty to keep these animals safe. In my personal opinion, this situation should have been handled differently. The shelter could have come and interviewed the family and see if the situation was appropriate. To rip the family and dog away from eachother after bonding is just cruel.
What a shit rescue organisation - took the puppy back from this loving family. I can feel - what Ellen feel! That is absolutely dramatic, no fault. Not Her fault. It is a fault from the rescue organisation. Iggy (the puppy) had a great home with loving people and a second dog / fellow. They remove it, just because Ellen did not ask the rescue organisation for it or having stupid regulations! Shame on them! Shame on this stupid rules! Things went terrible wrong. I am really sorry for that.

Meike Peters I'm certain the puppy is very happy. They don't react the way people do. My mother used to raise, breed and sell German Shepherds. I would get very attached to the puppies, but they were sold. They adjust very quickly.

I once had a dog that was hit by a car then runned over by it. It happened so quickly that I couldnt believe what happened in front of me. I cried and cried, the people around me thought it was funny. I was made fun of for crying over an animal (not even anyone in my family cared to comfort me ). But all i knew was, I loved that dog and it hurts when you lose someone or something you love. MAy you always be remembered, RIP My COFE.

I don't blame Ellen one bit. The rescue organization shouldn't be so concerned with whether or not the person adopting the pet can keep it. As long as it's given a good home, that's all that should matter. So it was wrong for them to come take the puppy away like that. I hope that the girls got their puppy back.
The rescue people are obliged to do this cos they have to trust that the person who signs the form actually keeps the dog. In this case, Ellen was being completely honest, but in other cases, people will adopt these dogs and then sell them to families for money, which is illegal, and that's why they sign the forms and check up on the adopting person/s

No. Sadly, from an article I read (pretty sure this is accurate) the organization said they would not be "bullied" by people like Ellen who are trying to "use their power and wealth to push people around". It's sick. I get that there's guidelines set in place, but shelters are set in place to unite animals with families. Ellen was so sad, how could she be the bully in this situation?? They also said that they wouldn't allow small dogs to be adopted by families with children under 14. What? I got my small dog when I was 8 or 9 years old. Having children isn't threatening the dog's safety.
This actually made me so sad. And these are just one of the few reasons why I love Ellen. She never is thinking about herself but about others and I love that about Ellen. I love u Ellen

Well this is 11 yrs later but I think the family probably just needed to apply & the organization would've approved them. Sounds like the organization was a stickler for policy & the family just needed to follow it's protocol no matter if silly or not, to get the dog back. It seems like more was going on with Ellen. Life can sure be overwhelming at times.
It's actually very difficult, as someone who worked at a shelter, to have someone who has give you the word, and signed a paper with the agrement to keep and protect and love an animal that you rescued and that took so much of your time to take care, to have that person to tell you so late that they give the dog away when you are trying to get some photos or information about the situation of the animal, It's just really BAD. Even if they have a reason like Ellen, is still irresponsible, and make you feel like you are taken as a joke. Why have people signing papers to have fully responsability to take care of an animal, if they are going to do whatever they feel like after? Like I said, Ellen had a good reason, but she was irresponsible for not talking to the shelter before doing something. I'm not sure about what happened with this case, the dog probably return with it's new family, but normally we wouldn't trust someone like that anymore, unfortunately.

I don't know how shelters work in the USA, and if they are all the same, but in Argentina we don't put down animals, even if they stay their whole life on a shelter. That's why we have strictest rules when it comes to adoption, we take care of abandoned and tortured animals every hour, every minute, we take them in, and without ANY help of the State, only from ordinary people. That's why I repeat, I don't know how shelters work at her country, but I can empathize with the hard work they do, and THAT'S why I said that it must be hard even for them to have to do something like that. Having worked with Ellen in the past (She was a voiceover instructor for a voice over school I attended) I can say that she is a very kind, caring and compassionate woman and a very inspiring individual... She may be a bit outspoken to those who speak ill about homosexuality.. but she has that right.. This is 2017.. Racism, Sexism, Bigotry and above all, homophobia, shouldn't be an issue anymore. Love thy fellow man, woman and child.. Treat others how YOU deserve to be treated...

She seems like such a nice person... I just wanted to hug her. I felt so bad for her. She is so positive and this can happen to anyone. We are human beings. I seriously can't think about that someone can actually not like her. This almost made me cry. Now she is happier... Or at least I think she is... She is truly an amazing person!

The humane society in Canada has the same rules. I guess because of all the effort and money that goes into these pet rescues, they've appointed themselves god over what happens to them forever after. I don't blame them but it does spoil gift giving for people who are kind to animals like Ellen - all the credit and blame goes to animal abusers.
@@ziggilypiggily that's so true. All rescues have that in their contract, that if you can't care for the animal anymore it has to be returned to the rescue. It's unfortunate though that they couldn't have just assessed her friends family and let them keep Iggy. But I guess if that did that, then it would leave precedent for it happening again.
@@ziggilypiggily The reason that shelters do this is because many people have bought animals as "gifts" and then give them away after a week to someone who could possibly not know anything about caring for that animal, not be financially stable enough to cover vet bills, neglectful or abusive homes, etc. Many people toss their pets out onto the street so a lot of shelters actually get old animals coming back in from the street after being adopted. There are so many things to consider when adopting a pet, these are sentient lives at our mercy. It's the shelter's duty to keep these animals safe.
In my personal opinion, this situation should have been handled differently. The shelter could have come and interviewed the family and see if the situation was appropriate. To rip the family and dog away from eachother after bonding is just cruel.

What a shit rescue organisation - took the puppy back from this loving family. I can feel - what Ellen feel! That is absolutely dramatic, no fault. Not Her fault. It is a fault from the rescue organisation. Iggy (the puppy) had a great home with loving people and a second dog / fellow. They remove it, just because Ellen did not ask the rescue organisation for it or having stupid regulations! Shame on them! Shame on this stupid rules! Things went terrible wrong. I am really sorry for that.

Meike Peters I'm certain the puppy is very happy. They don't react the way people do. My mother used to raise, breed and sell German Shepherds. I would get very attached to the puppies, but they were sold. They adjust very quickly.

Ivy it’s not the organizations fault there are rules set in place so the dog doesn’t in up in a bad place and they know where it ends up, they’ll still be able to go get the dog and adopt it

I once had a dog that was hit by a car then runned over by it. It happened so quickly that I couldnt believe what happened in front of me. I cried and cried, the people around me thought it was funny. I was made fun of for crying over an animal (not even anyone in my family cared to comfort me ). But all i knew was, I loved that dog and it hurts when you lose someone or something you love. MAy you always be remembered, RIP My COFE.

This is so wonderful and made my heart full. It’s amazing to see celebrities be real human beings, especially one who hides her feelings frequently for comedy. I just loved how raw this was and that she did this on her show.

I don't blame Ellen one bit. The rescue organization shouldn't be so concerned with whether or not the person adopting the pet can keep it. As long as it's given a good home, that's all that should matter. So it was wrong for them to come take the puppy away like that. I hope that the girls got their puppy back.
The rescue people are obliged to do this cos they have to trust that the person who signs the form actually keeps the dog. In this case, Ellen was being completely honest, but in other cases, people will adopt these dogs and then sell them to families for money, which is illegal, and that's why they sign the forms and check up on the adopting person/s
Props to her for being strong enough to show some raw emotion on her show.. I feel like sometimes that scarier to do than to pretend everything is fine.

No. Sadly, from an article I read (pretty sure this is accurate) the organization said they would not be "bullied" by people like Ellen who are trying to "use their power and wealth to push people around". It's sick. I get that there's guidelines set in place, but shelters are set in place to unite animals with families. Ellen was so sad, how could she be the bully in this situation?? They also said that they wouldn't allow small dogs to be adopted by families with children under 14. What? I got my small dog when I was 8 or 9 years old. Having children isn't threatening the dog's safety.

Well this is 11 yrs later but I think the family probably just needed to apply & the organization would've approved them. Sounds like the organization was a stickler for policy & the family just needed to follow it's protocol no matter if silly or not, to get the dog back. It seems like more was going on with Ellen. Life can sure be overwhelming at times.

It's actually very difficult, as someone who worked at a shelter, to have someone who has give you the word, and signed a paper with the agrement to keep and protect and love an animal that you rescued and that took so much of your time to take care, to have that person to tell you so late that they give the dog away when you are trying to get some photos or information about the situation of the animal, It's just really BAD. Even if they have a reason like Ellen, is still irresponsible, and make you feel like you are taken as a joke. Why have people signing papers to have fully responsability to take care of an animal, if they are going to do whatever they feel like after? Like I said, Ellen had a good reason, but she was irresponsible for not talking to the shelter before doing something. I'm not sure about what happened with this case, the dog probably return with it's new family, but normally we wouldn't trust someone like that anymore, unfortunately.

Ellen signed to take responsibility for that dog which she did, giving it to a good family she trusted. Their behaviour was disgusting and childish, if the welfare of the dog was their priority they would have conducted a house check on the new family and left the poor dog alone. I don't know how shelters work in the USA, and if they are all the same, but in Argentina we don't put down animals, even if they stay their whole life on a shelter. That's why we have strictest rules when it comes to adoption, we take care of abandoned and tortured animals every hour, every minute, we take them in, and without ANY help of the State, only from ordinary people. That's why I repeat, I don't know how shelters work at her country, but I can empathize with the hard work they do, and THAT'S why I said that it must be hard even for them to have to do something like that.
