    It's harder as a trans woman instead of a trans man. I feel sorry for any trans woman who struggles and gets bullied. As a trans man myself I've noticed that my best friend (a trans woman) is constantly gets harassed and I hate to see it. I get a lil teases here and there but i really do envy trans women for their confidence and not being scared of what someone else says. I'm always there and so is she.

      @@untamedvoid8895 Because your entire explanation rests on flawed logic. Transgender people are not claiming to be the opposite biological sex, but they are merely presenting as though they are. And if you saw a passing transgender individual without genuinely knowing that they are transgender, then chances are, you would refer to them as their preferred gender regardless of how much you think biology contradicts that.

      @adam zarbon Transitioning is documented as being the most effective method of treating gender dysphoria. Additionally, the high suicide rates are attributed to people who are anti-transgender, such as families who reject their transgender children, people who constantly bully transgender children, businesses who deny employment to people simply for being transgender, and doctors who deny services to people for being transgender.

They're just memories that never get to happen. there's such a sense of loss over these things that normal girls take for granted every day. It's heartbreaking.

      Actually Judy prenatal androgen exposure in the womb has the greatest effect on what type of behavior, and activities a person is going to have, and like. A human brain that is exposed to high levels of androgens regardless of it's chromosomes is going to prefer stereotypically masculine behavior, things, and activities. So of course that's why we see more males than females exhibiting masculine gender biased traits, and behaviors, and vice a versa for feminine gender biased traits, and behaviors. How much androgens the brain was exposed to in the womb is the reason we see gender biased traits, and behaviors in males, females, and non-binary people. Interestingly though androgen exposure doesn't seem to play much of a role in the formation of a person's gender identity.
      However, we can tell how masculinized a brain in the womb was by using a hearing test called otoacoustic emissions test\OAE. A brain that is less masculinized can hear higher pitches than one that is more masculinized. We see these differences right at birth before any behavior can be learned. The average baby girl will spend pretty much all their time looking at the faces of those around them, and very little to no time looking at objects. The reverse is true for the average boy. It is the reason why the average boy prefers mechanical toys like a truck over toys like a baby doll. It's also why women\feminine people tend to prefer jobs with people, and elements of nurturing, and why men\masculine people prefer jobs working with objects, or solitary work like computer programming. That's not to say that we can't overcome our evolutionary biology. However, it's not going to be easy as I believe it was Denmark found out.
      For years now they have been trying everything they can think of to get more women into STEM field jobs, and yet despite girls being raised in a very progressive country that very much encourages them to get into science, and math still overwhelmingly preferred jobs that dealt with people, and some element of nurturing such as a social worker, a lawyer, or a teacher. My point is not all of our gendered behavior is the result of it being taught to us as children. We know now that in terms of gender identity, and our gender biased traits, and behaviors that we are not born blanks slates that have to have it all taught to us. We are born with a certain innate amount instinctual knowledge. Gender is not a 100% social construct. For one thing gender is really just an outward expression of our sex, which given most people are born cisgender
      on-transgender is why most people see sex, and gender as being inexorably tied to one another. In reality it is a mixture of social construct, and our individual biology. Biology absolutely plays a role in all parts of our gender (gender identity, gender expression, and gender roles). Androgen exposure to the brain is why we see stereotypical masculine, and feminine traits, and behaviors in people. Down below are links that show the effects that prenatal androgens have on gender biased traits, and behaviors that people exhibit.

      Also Judy I don't think for Tabitha it's about stereotyping women. Just like I don't think a trans man is stereotyping men if he were to say that he feels sadness, regret, or that he wished he could have experiencing growing up, and being socialized as a boy, and man. As humans we want to connect to people through shared experiences, and we want to be a part of a group. It also sucks being raised in a way that is fundamentally not who you are as a person. Tabitha is no different than the girl who grew up with parents who never let her do any of that stuff such as going to prom, and then as an adult she looks back on it, and wishes she could have had similar experiences growing up as other women.
      Also not every female are against all these things. I don't know why you feel like you can speak for all girls, and women in the world. I think beauty contests are outdated, and just a little bit vain should go away, but there are girls, and women who love doing it regardless of men's involvement with it. Who am I to tell them not to do it because they are enforcing gender stereotypes. All I can do is try to dissuade my daughter from doing it, but if she wanted to I would support her in it. Though while at the same time making sure she understands that her worth, and value in this world as a woman are not, and should not be tied to her external appearance.

There isn't a trace of baritone in your voice, it sounds very natural. Also, I like the way that you dress, so naturally. A lot of transwomen over do the makeup and sexy clothes in an attempt to by hyper feminine and sexy and this can work against them, but you dress very nice. One of the worst feelings in the world that you can ever experience is the inability to accept who you are - be it your gender, your height, your face, your body, your personality etc. You are constantly fighting against yourself. You can't feel fine. You can't avoid yourself. You can't escape yourself. The thing that you hated the most in this world has to always be with you, like a shadow that follows you whenever you go. It's this feeling that makes you hope that the life you're living is just a nightmare you can wake up to.

      rextrek I've known I was a girl and now a woman my whole entire life, and yet being pressured by not only the world but my own fears over the approval of others, it has taken me my entire life to finally be open and admit who I am inside; who I should be on the outside. It's understandable that you don't know what it is to be trans -- I'm trans and I don't even know!! All I know is its killing me on the inside to be silent...
      You just know who you are on the inside. And it's SO different for everyone in the trans community. I know because I spend a lot of time with my fellow trans, woman, man, and inbetween. But the point is, life isn't as simple as boy or girl, gay or straight -- it's WAY more complex than we as humans allow our minds to come to terms with.
      Sometimes it's combinations of both male and female. Or one day you're a girl, one day a boy, one day a neutral and quite asexual being. Genderfluidity. I know a good number of people who identify with gender in this way, so really understanding trans people is barely even understanding the tail end of LGBTQIA. And the differences are VERY different. Like get a room full of us together and will any of us fuck? It's just too different. Everyone wants different things. It's no longer this homogenous alt scene. Gay doesn't even really even begin to explain homosexuality and bisexual doesn't mean I'm attracted to all people. And am i transgender or genderfluid? I feel more transgender but I definitely go through fluid moments.
      Point is, it's not black and white.

      Well, RuPaul isn't even transgender, according to himself, or at the very least he "doesn't care". He's a drag queen. That's a type of performance art, and people of all stripes do it, regardless of their identity. The art of drag literally includes as one of its defining features "exaggerated femininity" - that's the reason it's interesting as an artform.
      Someone being transgender could not be farther from that in definition. It's merely someone who has a different gender identity than their chromosomal sex. While a transgirl could certainly choose to dress and behave that "exaggerated" if she wanted to, most don't, and if she did, that would just be her taste! And everyone deserves to be able to show their own self and their own style.

      ***** Assuming you are a guy, imagine if at puberty, instead of growing facial hair and your voice getting lower, you got breasts and hips and for all physical purposes, you were female. Your doctor tells you that it was just a mistake that you were labeled as male at birth and your body is actually 100% female. Imagine that your parents tell you that you have to be a girl because as your body clearly shows, that is how God meant you to be and any belief you hold that you are still male is just some confusion that you will outgrow. Most people you speak to agree that your insistence on "pretending" to be male is a sickening affront to nature or an attention seeking act.The difference between sex and gender is important here. In this hypothetical scenario, your sex (body) was changed to female but your gender (mind) was still male. For someone who is transgender, sex and gender disagree from birth. Because they were always told they were male or female based on their sex, it often takes them a while to realize that their mind and body disagree. Studies show subtle differences between the structures of male and female brains. For trans people, brain structure tends to be in line with the gender they identify with and not the overall sex of their body.

      As an analogy, imagine you had to choose whether you liked cats or dogs. You're meant to stick with the choice your whole life and people get angry and make fun of you for going out of that binary. But your tastes can change as you grow up, your experiences can change what you like. Some people can like both cats and dogs, others can prefer other animals such as snakes, rats, or birds, while others might not like any animals at all.
      I hope that was a helpful analogy of gender.

      ***** To paraphrase another analogy that Lily told me that didn't fit in the video: Assuming you identify as a man, Imagine I offered you $1,000,000 to have a vaginoplasty - an irreversible surgery to turn the penis into a vagina - would you take it? How about $5,000,000? Most men would answer no, that just would not feel right. That kind of question is a great proxy for figuring out what gender you identify with. For many transgender people, it's the exact opposite situation.

    I honestly don't understand what he/she wants.
    She doesn't want to conform to the male gender but DOES want to conform to the stereotypical female gender.
    Don't we usually see it as a bad thing that girls want to wear pretty pink dresses etc.
    and boys want to be tough and emotionless.
    I can imagine a VOX video following this one to say how bad it is to follow gender stereotypes, and it would be hailed equally highly. Kind of a confusing thing this subject.
    *(perhaps I'm wrong about Lily wanting to be a 'stereotypical' girl, but still, my point is that she wants to be more 'girly' than 'boyish')

      so what does it mean to be a woman then. Let's say she wants to be a woman who likes trucks and belching and wearing jeans and t-shirts and who is attracted to girls. Then what exactly is she changing? Just her physical body?

    • @brod2man
      @brod2man Před 9 lety +2

      dana munir
      I just don't understand what she thinks she is lacking. Is it simply that she doesn't feel comfortable in her body, because it's a male body?
      I'm male, but I don't really know what it feels like to 'be male'. I'm just me and I have certain habits. If I changed into a woman, I don't know what would be changing other than my physical body. I'd have the same brain and way of thinking which is neither male nor female.
      Of course I'll support people going through this, but I literally have no idea what they are fighting against or for.
      I just read a news article about Bruce Jenner coming out as a transgender woman. The pictures show him with long hair and saying he enjoying putting on his mother's clothes as a child. Does wearing dresses and having long hair have something to do with FEELING like a woman, if so it's a little confusing because those things are just superficial fashion. In some societies men have long hair and wear dress-like clothing. Does that means a transgender woman in those societies would avoid that behaviour?
      So many layers to this

    • @brod2man
      @brod2man Před 9 lety +1

      dana munir I agree there is a difference between gender roles and the biological gender. But if a person puts make up on, they are doing something associated with female gender. I think it has everything to do with society's stereotypes. There's nothing innately feminine about make-up and long hair. It's something gender roles have created. It's as feminine as the colour pink. (ie. only in society's view)
      So if a biological man says they FEEL like they are a woman. To me it just sounds like they are saying, I don't feel comfortable following male gender roles, I'd rather follow female gender roles. Which raises questions about transgender women who prefer to follow male gender roles. If their body is still male, then in what way are they women?
      Sorry if I am offending you or anyone reading this. Keep in mind I am so out of the loop with this, mainly because it's not a topic that has made the mainstream yet. So I may sound like an asshole, but I'm really just trying to wrap my head around the concept. It's hard to sympathise with it as a problem if I don't understand what is happening in these people's minds. There's a good chance I'm lacking vital information which has caused me to say some things which may be totally wrong.

      But for that to be true, the colour pink would have to have something to do with femininity. A couple weeks ago Vox actually released a video showing why Pink is associated with girls. Blue was actually seen as the girly colour at first. Fame and chance gave pink it's current link to femininity. Nothing innate to it. I would argue the same with dresses. There is nothing innately feminine about a one piece clothing.
      Surely it's more convoluted than just the choice of a child/inclination towards one gender from an early age. There are so many influences.
      Thinking about all this makes me need to ask questions like; Is there a link between boys and ACTION figures and rough play and dirty etc.
      If there is, when does this become relevant? Shouldn't it be after puberty once hormones start to take effect?
      I won't ask you to respond to these questions, probably things I need to look into myself. There seems to be a lot to all of this

      Well that makes sense to me. But I guess I just need help in distinguishing gender expression from gender identity.
      What does it mean to identify with a gender?
      What is a gender if not the expression of that gender?

    People seem to get really uppity about all this transgender stuff, but I tend to go by a simple rule. If you look like a girl, I'll call you a girl, if you look like a guy, I'll call you a guy. If you wanna be called some other special snowflake term that i need to remember specifically to address you, I'm just not going to bother continuing the conversation.

    • @alasanof
      @alasanof Před 9 lety +9

      I feel like it'd be a simpler rule to refer to people as what they identify as. One cannot consistently determine someone's gender based on that person's appearance, even some cisgender people - or people identifying as the gender assigned to them at birth - blur the lines of traditional gender traits. I believe it's best to be respectful of people's gender identities and treat them how they want to be treated.

    • @alasanof
      @alasanof Před 9 lety +6

      kuhataparunks don't use that word to refer to transgender people, it's a disrespectful slur.

    • @alasanof
      @alasanof Před 9 lety

      Hamster Nipples Gerry Mandering said that men constantly affirm their heterosexuality by making comments about their sex lives. Since men are heterosexual and also cisgender (identifying as the gender they were assigned at birth (or, in terms I assume you'd understand, a man who has a penis)), men affirm their heterosexuality by saying how well they inserted their penis into their woman sexual partner's vagina.
      If you are talking about sexual preference as being the type of women these men are attracted to rather than their sexuality, then it has to do with the genitalia involved in heterosexual, cisgender intercourse. These men are socialized by society to believe that all men have penises while all women have vaginas. A woman with a penis changes this rigid paradigm. To men, they are a confusing mixture of genders, acting feminine while having a penis. Heterosexual men want to have heterosexual sex, which in their minds consists of a penis entering a woman's vagina. Or a woman's mouth or anus, but they still want the woman to have a vagina. Because if the woman has a penis, then the man's boxed logic dictates that she is actually a man, but in actuality the woman is a woman because she says so. If the man accepts the woman for who she is, then they are a heterosexual couple.
      Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that when men say they love fucking a woman's vagina, they are affirming both their sexuality and preference towards cisgender women.

      Hamster Nipples It sounds like you have a problem with people who brag. Most gay people aren't running around telling everyone because most people really don't care

    • @alasanof
      @alasanof Před 9 lety

      Hamster Nipples It is good that you bring that up, it is a major issue in the gay community. The men who write "masc 4 masc" or "no blacks, asians, latinos" do so because they're actually transphobic and racist. They just want to hide behind the veil of "personal preferences". Lots of the preferences in dating profiles basically boil down to "I want to have the perfect trophy of a person for me to claim in a relationship."
