For some of the student activists, Free Education came at a heavy price. The Fees Must Fall protests in both 2015 and 2016 saw a number of students expelled from universities and some getting arrested. Khanya Cekeshe the one FeesMustFall activist who is still behind bars was sentenced to five years imprisonment for public violence and malicious damage to property. Other students are sentenced to house arrest and others are still making court appearances.
