  • The Lightning preservation group's annual event of the year, starring their three English Electric Lightnings, a pair of F.6s and an F.3.
    The F.6s being working examples performed a static reheat and fast taxi for the crowd.
    in 2020 the land the airfield sits on was leased to Cox Automotive, who decided to stop the Cold War jet shows from taking place in Favour of storing used Cars on the runway. All the aircraft shown here are now on Static display, but where possible kept in serviceable condition to reduce corrosion.
    This subsequently means that this video shows the last ever fast taxi of the definitive lightning mark, the F.6, and leaves just T.5 XS458 at Cranfield Airport the only lightning in the UK potentially capable of fast taxi.

    Magnificent, preserved Lightnings, closest to thing to air worthiness. I can think of several U.S. jets we should have preserved like this

    So much better than the American "widowmaker" . In the 1960s we had the Lightning Display Team at RAF Waddington. Incredible and exciting.

      4000 airframes v 300 airframes Sold (F-104 v Lightning) say your talking bollocks, like most British plane spotters. PS Waddington wasn't a Lightning base!!!

      In comparison the Lightning made just as much 'victims' as the 104 did.

    It’s sad that we can no longer witness a Lightning passing by on full reheat. The runway is being used as a car park now🙄. At least the LPG are still keeping them live. If you’ve ever stood next to a Lightning with just one engine on reheat, you’ll know what I mean…

    Absolutely boils my piss, with all the Millions of £££'s that we waste in this Country, that we don't have an air worthy Lighting, as part of the Memorial Flight, same as the Vulcan!

    I believe that there is a Lightning in the US which they are aiming to return to airworthiness. Not sure what happened to the 2/3 Lightnings at Mike Beachy Head's Thunder City operation in Soith Africs which was effectively shut down by the CAA equivalent following an accident and death of Dave Stock one of the experienced pilots there. It would be fantastic to see a Lightning at airshows in the UK. I can't be bothered now, following the grounding of the Vulcan.

    • @kenstevens5065
      @kenstevens5065 Před rokem +1

      Apparently the Thunder City stuff is up for sale and apart from the negligent service of the ejection mechanism which caused the pilots death there were other issues with safety at the site. It is a sad state of affairs that national Governments don't finance jet heritage flight.

      Snap. Just ain’t worth the hassle of an air display these days. Would love to see the BBMF , the red arrows etc more often but no nimrod, no Concorde, no harrier no krigsmarine 4 ship F104s ( now that’s going back a bit) and, most especially no XH558. Now I just go, with family, to the Cosby show each September, where, after the tank battle re-enactment they do put on a good show of, mainly, WW2 warbirds.
