- In just 4 stories, the Third Doctor's first season is over but what a season!
Did any of the stories make it into the Top 10 at this point? And where does Liz find herself in the Companion Ranking?
Let's briefly recap Season Seven and take stock of the ground covered so far!

Great choice for the top spot-not just superb Who but one of the best examples of classic British science fiction ever to grace a TV screen.
Season 7 is my favourite season, Inferno my favourite story ever and episode six of Inferno my favourite all time episose and cliffhanger. Here is my top 10 for the first seven seasons.
1. Inferno
2. The Web of Fear
3. Spearhead from Space
4. The War Games
5. The Invasion
6. The Dalek Invasion of Earth
7. The Tomb of the Cybermen
8. The Mind Robber
9.The Daleks Masterplan
10. The Ambassadors of Death
I love season 7. Maybe most consistent classic Doctor who season
One of the interesting things about This season is it is when it starts bringing in the politics of the time into the stories., there was always some in the background but now we have ecological disasters, xenophobia, government corruption etc its sometimes easy to miss without historical context . interestingly regarding the Tory Dr thing there are many examples of him standing up to industrialists and we even have him involved in a miner strike on peladon
i have finally caught up with you, and season 7 did not dissapoint
I'm going to make the same prediction as i did the last season recap. Polly will be pushed off the list by Jo, and Ian will be pushed down yet another spot xD
My Top 10 to the end of Series 7
1. Inferno
2. The Dalek Masterplan
3. Evil of the Daleks
4. Power of the Daleks
5. The Web of Fear
6. Tomb of the Cybermen
7. The War Games
8. Spearhead from Space
9. The Mind Robber
10. The Aztecs
Just a note on Liz Shaw, while I get what you're saying about her not meeting her potential, it's important to remember this is (or was, not so sure about the modern version!) a family show, and so needs to appeal to the youngest viewers. Kids aren't going to see a relatable figure in two scientists and a military man, as much as adult viewers don't mind it. This is why Jo is a perfect replacement, not much older than a child, she tricks her way into UNIT, and matures with the younger audience. As much as it's great to have companions like Liz and stories like The Massacre, they seem to be missing the objective of the show, which is why they end up as one-offs.
I've never really been a fan of season 7, seeing the latter 3 stories as a bit of a slog, so to see my favorite story to get booted out of the top spot so soon sucks, but I am happy you enjoy it so much when I can't!
Agree, UNIT are not companions. And, in just the same way and reason, neither is Liz. ;-)
Agreed about UNIT, but Caroline John was definitely auditioned and selected, against many other hopefuls, to be the Doctor's official companion... or "assistant", as they were called back then. The same rigorious casting process would also apply to Katy Manning, Lis Sladen and others later. Nick Courtney, John Levene and Richard Franklin never had to go through those hoops, and were cast just like any other supporting actors would have been.
@@ftumschk I was joking. I am very well versed in Who lore both onscreen and behind the scenes.
@@replimatreviews D'oh! I only just noticed the "sly wink" emoji :)
How’d you get through this season so fast?? Did you find you were just reenergized in the show after the change up? I had just watch pertwees run before going back to one and two in September but when I finished war games I went straight to robot and I’m feeling so refreshed that I’m getting through season 12 very quickly
I watched the video and sort of got my answer lol
Season 7 is probably the best season of classic who. Not saying that there aren't better stories but overall there isn't a bad story in the four. Just take the first six season. If you were going to eliminate a story to watch there are easy choices. Not with season 7. Probably has the highest average rating.
I’m sure I read or heard that Caroline John learned that she was pregnant between seasons 7 & 8, and had decided herself that she wouldn’t be returning for season 8, even if she’d been asked. Can anyone confirm this?
She did and was worried about telling the producers, who then let her go anyway. That's the understanding I have but I could be wrong
@@chris_stokes Thanks. I think I saw Caroline recall the story in an interview, but I haven’t been able to find it.
Agree, UNIT are not companions. And, in just the same way and reason, neither is Liz. ;-)
