    I tried the skirt last week and it fits like a glove. Perfect! I am a beginner and struggled with the lining so it took me a little longer to sew but it came out very nice! I will definitely make it again but without attaching the lining to the hem.

    • @GraceyStitches
      @GraceyStitches  Před 6 měsíci

      I’m happy to hear this, especially from a beginner. This proves that my tutorials are beginner-friendly!💃
      You did a good job 👏 . Lining takes more time and skills but of course, with consistent practise, you’ll master it in no time. And yes, you do not have to attach them at the hem if you don’t want it all closed up. In fact, that’s easier. Just ensure that the length of the lining is at least 3” shorter than the main length of your skirt.
      Thanks for the review

      Thank you! One more question. Can I combine this skirt with your bodice tutorial to make a dress? Should I eliminate the step where you depress the waist by 1/2 inch in the front when doing a dress?

    • @GraceyStitches
      @GraceyStitches  Před 5 měsíci

      @@raquelm8655 No. When joining the bodice to the skirt, don’t skip that step. You still have to depress the waist of the skirt. However, you may need to adjust your darts so that they’ll align.

      @GraceyStitches  Před 3 lety

      Hello. I'm glad you like the skirt tutorial. Please try it out.
      Regarding the bodice, I do not allocate more to the front than the back. All we need for the front bodice is an adequate 'cup' to accommodate the bust and luckily, the front has 2 darts FROM DIFFERRENT DIRECTIONS to help us achieve that cup effect (waist & bust dart)...although we can add up to 2 darts on the skirt to get the bum effect as well...
      I recently started a series on how to draft different bodice pattern.
      You can start from here czcams.com/video/Seqhhr3IevE/video.html for the bodice pattern or here czcams.com/video/_aU3faW8F9k/video.html if you want to know more about measurements too.

    Im here because I followed someone else's tutorial and now my pencil skirt has horizontal lines/ wrinkled at the tummy area. I am size 16 with flat stomach. I want to make a second skirt but using your pattern. And if it all works out I will then go back and try to modify the first skirt from someone else's tutorial.

    Thanks so much for taking your time to explain this video.
    You've just remove a burden from me now.
    My question is each time I draft a skirt for a person with big Buttocks the back length is always shorter.
    What can I do to eliminate that.?
    Thanks as I await your response

    • @GraceyStitches
      @GraceyStitches  Před 3 lety

      Hello. When the skirt is shorter at the back, this means the bum size is more than average and it needs more room. So, what we do is this: slash and spread at the back hip line. This increases the length of the back and also gives a nice fit.

    Lovely tutorial.
    When cutting the front you said to get a pencil skirt all we need do is deduct 1 inch from the hip measurement and mark at the hem of the skirt at the side. My question is for the back pattern do we deduct the same one inch at the side or center back

    • @GraceyStitches
      @GraceyStitches  Před 2 lety

      Hi
      The slit varies per individual if you’re making a custom wear. I like mine about 6” above my knee while some like theirs even higher or covered.
      But on the average, 5” above knee is okay

    This is great. Do you have a detailed video for trousers? Taking into acc whether the person has a flat bottom or a curvy one? I'm still trying to figure out crotch measurement.

    • @GraceyStitches
      @GraceyStitches  Před 29 dny

      Unfortunately, I do not have a video on trousers at the moment. However, your best bet for measuring the crotch is to first find your natural waist and tie a rope or tape around it then
      option 1 - sit on a hard surface chair and measure from your side waist down the chair OR
      option 2 - stand up straight and measure from your front waist line through your crotch to the back waist line - divide the answer by 2, subtract 1.5" to get the front crotch and add 1.5" to get the back crotch.

    • @glittergwyn
      @glittergwyn Před 29 dny

      @@GraceyStitches Thank you! I have tried both but didn't know how to use those numbers. I didn't know about the 1.5" bit. Will certainly try again with that.❤️

    I love this video thanks so much. Pls how much ease do you add so you can sit down without it being tight?

    • @GraceyStitches
      @GraceyStitches  Před 3 lety

      For me, I add 0.25" ease allowance when on fold (making 1" in total). As long as your measurements were not taking tightly (but firmly) , 1" ease allowance (in total) is perfect.
      Thanks for watching..

  • @MegaDusk2Dawn
    @MegaDusk2Dawn Před 3 lety

    I'm an extreme beginner to sewing and am a bit confused. For both drafts, you did half of the full measurements so did you cut out four parts of fabric in total? If so, how did the pattern in the front come out so seamless?

    • @GraceyStitches
      @GraceyStitches  Před 3 lety

      The front pattern would be cut on fold while the back pattern will have 2 pieces.

      Definitely ! Please go ahead. Your result will be perfect.
      As long as the dress has a fitted skirt part, this is what I use.
      Even for A-line skirts, I use this pattern. I just transfer the darts to make it wider at the hem
