I want to make it clear that I'm sharing this not to brag, but to show you that the Turtle in BJJ is a a highly effective guard that will keep you safe and dangerous while people are trying to take your back! But don't just take my word for it - watch this video to see for yourself what it looks like to play a modern BJJ turtle.
As you could see, I TURNED my back inviting my opponents to engage (I did not GIVE away my back) At first they become surprised, thinking that this will be an easy one. However, as time passes and the confusion due to not being able to establish any hooks, score any points or attempt any chokes keeps increasing, they will OVERCOMPENSATE! Yes, the unfamiliarity of playing top BJJ Turtle against someone who is a specialist in using dynamic movements from Turtle can be overwhelming, so much so that they completely forget about their own vulnerabilities ending in their demise. This is NOT a coincidence - It's reality!"

When I heard turtle master I thought it was just a nickname. Dude pulled turtle instantly every round đ
It worked, but this dude is so good he coulda probably done any guard and won that tournament

What happens when a turtle master faces another turtle master? Imagine two turtles sitting side by side!
The norm is everyone wants to dominate, smash and submit and win right. But when you have people doing things differently like this people start to get irritated or frustrated because they never think the unexpected. This defensive bjj style indeed works, itâs not perfect but it works. Youâre shutting down a lot of attempts like attacks, passes ect. Itâs a game of ultimate patience and timing. Instead of falling into the opponentâs game you easily make them fall into your game. Now obviously in competition itâs different and it requires a lot of game planning and training and time to test it in the competition scene vs in class training and rolling. But I love this style of BJJ because if you canât beat em, make em work for itđ. Why rush for things when you can make the rush come to you with ease. Itâs a psychological game and it works.
This is the jiu jitsu equivalent of hiding behind your shield in Dark Souls and I love it.

One of my grappling buddies started using this system as well and it was so irritating to deal with. However, it just added to my overall experience of attacking and defending and I also learned a few of the tricks too.

I think it was Royce Gracie who said if you never lose, you'll eventually win. I'm not sure if this is what he had in mind, but it works.
