The 1973 Yom Kippur War, also known as the October War, erupted on October 6 when Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack on Israel during the holiest day in Judaism, Yom Kippur. This conflict was a pivotal moment in the Arab-Israeli conflict, with Egypt and Syria seeking to regain territories lost to Israel in the 1967 Six-Day War. Despite initial Israeli setbacks, the country managed to push back the Arab forces and even advanced into Egyptian and Syrian territories. The conflict led to a significant loss of life on all sides and spurred international concerns, leading to a ceasefire brokered by the United Nations. The war highlighted the strategic importance of diplomacy in the Middle East and eventually led to peace negotiations, such as the Camp David Accords in 1978 between Egypt and Israel, mediated by the United States.

Egyptian pilots were poorly trained while Israelis were better trained. In a 1vs1 combat Israeli pilots one almost every time.
Egyptians knew this so they relied on Soviet built surface to air missiles which were deployed West of the Suez canal and had a range of 25-30 km.
When Israeli jets tried to attack Egyptian Army they were shot down by Egyptian surface to air missiles(SAMs) . After initial gains in Sinai as Egyptian Army advanced further they were out of range of SAMs and now Israeli air force could target them freely without the fear of being shot down by SAMs. Egypt lost 250 tanks in a single day because of Israeli air strikes. This turned the tide and Egypt lost momentum.
After the destruction of Egyptian armour Israeli Army advanced and crossed the Canal. There they destroyed the SAMs. Now Israeli air force could strike freely and they did. They threatened to capture cities West of canal and Egyptian troops East of canal were cut from there supplies. Had the war continued it would have been disastrous for Egypt.
Arab armies had very good weapons back then but were poorly trained. With the passage of everyday Israel became stronger and stronger and dream of a Free Palestine never came true till this day.

Israeli air defense systems David's sling and arrow 3 are considered best in the world.
They have 5th generation fighter jets like F-35 and 4th generation F-15 eagles and F-16 falcons. They have better missiles like Jericho 3, python, Derby, Gabriel, Spike anti tank missile.
Arab countries need decades to match Israeli military power.
Turkey and Iran are closing the gap and after a decade might be in position to take over Israel but Arabs need to do a lot more. If a war breaks out Israel is in a position to crush all Arab countries alone.
In recent years MBS has made efforts to modernize Saudi Arabia's armed forces. UAE based edge group is also advancing and making a lot of weapons indigenously.
