- Roller Coaster (also known as Nightmare in its later years) operated at Joyland in Wichita, Kansas, from 1949-2004. It was designed by Herbert Schmeck and John Allen and built by Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters.
It was one of the last coasters with original trains that had only a stationary bar as a restraint. It did not have seat belts or buzz bars. It only had a single metal bar. It closed in 2004, though the park operated sporadically for a few years after. Roller Coaster was torn down in 2015.
Nice! I don’t think the paint ever looked that nice in real life.
I considered making the paint peeling, but I did find a few relatively recent photos of it looking freshly painted. I don't know what year they were taken, but they were in color and the surroundings looked similar to when it was sitting closed.
A classic out and back coaster, with really well executed "air time" hills are hard to beat. I like the dog leg at the far end, in place of the normal 180 turn back. It's a nice twist.
As the world needed him most, he has returned
haha, thanks. My computer crashed, so I had to deal with that. Thankfully everything was backed up, so the only thing I lost was time
This looks like a fun coaster.
Shame what happened to the only notable coaster in Kansas. If this was still operating I would be able to claim coast to coast every state I would have credits in was touching by the end of next year. I'll be exploring the site of Joyland in February, I believe the equipment for this is still there like the flywheel and the trains with glorious buzbars (oh how I would've loved riding it, this looks to be one of Schmeck's best coasters and I really like Phoenix and Great Escape Comet so that's a compliment).
It looks almost like the Bumbly Beach woodie in the old RCT games. I am currently working on a coaster in Planet Coaster that I built recently and some of the layout is remarkably similar to this. As a matter of fact alot of it is so similar it is almost scary.
I was not even thinking about your recreation here when I built my layout.
Love it that was the closest rollercoaster to me
Same here, too bad nothing was able to be done
Did you see Wichita’s plan to build a hyper gtx by the river near the new base ball field
@@Cheifs15 No, I had no idea, that sounds awesome!
My most rare credit lol
Nice. It was SBNO the only time I saw it.
Maybe a bit faster than real life, but still very well done.
Can you do thunder eagle at race world
I've added that to my list, but I haven't done much research to see what photos and videos are available yet.
I haven't ridden Thunder Eagle, but I loved it's larger Coaster Works cousin Dania Beach Hurricane. It was loaded with airtime. My most underrated coaster; now just a memory.
Do the whalom park flyer comet, and the Lincoln park comet
I've thought about both, with Lincoln Park Comet ahead. I'm currently working on Mountain Dips at Rocky Glen. It was Miller coaster similar to Jack Rabbit at Kennywood.
Somebody saw the video in my personal channel.
Do the Diana beach hurricane
I have considered that one
