  • The good folks at Midwest Industries are always coming up with new, innovative firearm products, and today Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb shows us MI's Alpha M4 Beam Stock. In itself, the Alpha M4 is not actually a stock. It clamps to any rifle with an M1913 Picatinny stock attachment rail and enables you to install on it any stock that fits an AR-15 carbine receiver extension (buffer tube). So it will NOT work on a standard AR-15. The big impetus behind developing the Alpha M4 was to make it easy to mount AR-15 carbine stocks on AK-47 / AK-74 pattern rifles. It's also perfect for a SIG Sauer Spear, Brownells BRN-180 with the American Defense Mfg. Picatinny lower receiver, or a rifle with the Foxtrot Mike Picatinny stock adapter.
    You can get the Alpha M4 in both fixed and folding configurations. Why would you want the fixed model? You may live in a place that prohibits folding stocks (our condolences) OR you already have a folding mechanism on your rifle and just want to mount an AR carbine stock on it. The Alpha M4 is skeletonized, so how does the AR-15 stock fit on it? The contours of the top and bottom of the Alpha match those of an AR-15 carbine buffer tube, right down to the notches on the underside for the length adjustment system.
    Bonus: the Alpha M4 boom has QD sling swivel sockets on each side up front, and if your chosen buttstock also has QD sockets, you have a whole LOT of sling attachment options! The Fixed model is lighter because it's all aluminum, while the Folding model weighs more because the folding mechanism is steel, as it should be. You can set up the Alpha M4 to fold either to the left- or the right-hand side of the rifle.
    Installation is easy-peasy, as Caleb demos for us. Loosen the hex screw and clamp the Alpha M4 to your rifle's Picatinny stock rail. You have some leeway in how high or low you position the Alpha M4 Beam on the rail. This lets you adjust your cheek position on the stock, depending on how high your optic is mounted.

    they also make one of these that retains the buffer tube and has a cap you can screw off at the end so you can use it as storage.

    Running one of these with a Magpull CTR stock on a BRN180 carbine. Very solid and looks more conventional than other picatinny folding stocks and allows use of a broader range of options.

    i like that you say you didnt weight it, but its super for a lightweight build.
    just admit weighs more than a buffer tube

      That was what I thought exactly when I watched that part. Scales are cheap and I like to weigh all of my accessories just because I can. There can be a huge variation in weight in things like grips as a good example.A few ounces here and a few more extra there add up after a bit, especially if you are going to be lugging the weapon around.

    Great job, for my long arms I would like to see one about 3 inches longer for a fold up but that's just me

      @ElsinoreRacer Před 10 měsíci

      Well, good news, then. Between the 1913 adapter, the pivot & its fastening scheme, and the full carbine tube behind, pull length starts out about 2.5 inches longer (or more).
      The "or more": I have this in the buffer tube variation. The socket for the buffer tube is pretty shallow and half the threads stick out. With the stock on & threads showing, this thing is pretty long fully slid forward. Not happy. So I sawed off buffer tube threads until it bottomed in the socket while barely being able to climb the shallowing threads. Very successful. In fact, to get the stock to click in the fully forward position, I had to trim a little material off the stock.
      I have a 75+" wingspan, and yet I doubt you really want 3 more inches. But if you do, then the good news is you are going to get it whether you want it or not.

    Looks cool, but does nothing an empty buffer tube doesn't do cheaper and lighter. The extra QD is in a useless place if you want to use the 1st half of stock adjustment......... and you WILL. Between the 1913 adapter, the pivot, and the tube/beam mounting, your starting position for the stock is wayyy back of standard AR. No one mentions this, but you get it all together and you see how far it is from the front edge of the stock to the back edge of the buffer loop of the lower. WOW, how did all this happen?

      How so? This product is geared towards platforms that don't require a buffer tube but still wants an M4 style butt stock. This is not meant for traditional DI guns.

    • @derekhead7068
      @derekhead7068 Před 11 měsíci +5

      If you buy the correct gun or the correct attachment (for an AK) there is no modifying needed. He literally just bolted it to his BRN-180 without modifying anything.
