    So glad everyone's feeling better! You folks have been missed. Love all the experiments. We have alpaca and I was in the process of using run off water to help fill their 100 gal. rubber made tank, it's difficult to haul 5 gal. buckets... Anyway, my father , a man of few words popped in and I explained what I was doing - he just looked at me and said 'NO,' and left. I was at a loss for words and just sat with my alpaca, chatting. About a hour later here comes my daddy with 250 feet of very thick 'farm hose,' I'm in Vermont. He gets to work hooking up the new hose, drags it to the tank, empties the water, rinses the tank then starts to fill it. I looked at him and said, 'thank for the hose?' He laughed then said 'you cannot use run off water for the animals. Roofs get dirty and whatever is on your roof will be washed off into your tank. Always be sure to feed and water your animals with clean good quality stuff...' My husband came home from work and agreed with my father... Long way of saying, 'Are you worried about water quality?' Love your channel :-)

    • @CogHillFarm
      @CogHillFarm  Před 5 lety +1

      Peaches never gets her nails done, but it’s bc we live on such a steep hill and our driveway is loose rocks & gravel, so her nails are worn from all the walking she does up & down the driveway. I know I show her a lot sleeping, but she really walks around a lot & I’m very thankful she does! :)

    Farm supply and some hardware stores (Ace) have fastener aisle where they also carry a selection of springs. Take one and see if you can find a match for 1 or 2 dollars. And yes , like in a previous comment, wet and mix that dust back in, or feed it to hogs wet.

    • @CogHillFarm
      @CogHillFarm  Před 5 lety

      Yep, we have tried matching it up but what tends to happen is that the waterers are kinda sensitive, so the spring will either be too stiff & no water comes out or the spring is not stiff enough & it just over flows...ugh! But I do feed the powder to the ducks & geese :)

    It seems likes it's been raining down here in San Antonio since way back in September or October. I can't remember now but one of those two months was the wettest recorded in history. I got so sick of it every single day and our little poodle doesn't like to get her feet wet or any other part. I don't really need to go out in it unless it's to the store or dragging Baby out into the yard, I'm just kidding, I carry her! But I’ll bet your birds would eat the powder if you add it to a ferment... especially if they’ve gotten used to having fermented feed once in a while from an early age. Peaches bed 🛏 🐖😂

  • @zaviahopethomas-woundedsou9848

    If you melt some fat (the stuff that solidifies at room temperature) and that powdery chicken food, so when solidified it makes bars like soap, they will eat it.

    Mix all of the powder with a little water and make a mash for them. They will eat it and you will have no waste.

    LOL...Peaches ain't much for talkin' but lookin' at her "rough it up" during cold weather! Even with her being overweight bet you wouldn't want her on a diet, so....just buy her another bed! Love the way ya trick the flock out, CORN......AWESOME glimpses of the goats, your meat ducks, probably the only ones who don't mind the weather and those li'l meat chicks! Thanks Jason, surprised not to see any snow there but yeah the cold is everywhere, including over here on the central plateau! :)

    Was that really Peaches snoring at the end of the video? I hear you on the powdered remains of chick feed; I've tried wetting it as others have suggested, but they don't touch that either, not even when it's fermented. They will, however, dive in to fermented whole grains. Go figure.

    Hey Jason, what kind of water do you all have, is it well water, or is it city water? . if it's well water how does it taste does it taste good or does it taste icky, if it's well water you don't have to pay for it right? I hope not because you're using a lot of water.

    If you pour the chick feed dust into a bowl and add water they will prefer it over the normal feed.

      @@CogHillFarm That sounds pretty rich-nice fatty, spoiled meat birds. Soaking the food works for ducks too. I quit meat ducks this year, but I'd use it with them so they'd throw less food and snort less into their water. It seemed to get stuck in their noses and throats less.
