This is true, but also, I have seen numerous groups have a member sit out for (insert reason here) and it’s more likely that a group would adjust their choreography and have a different member cover their part. No hate to those groups who do that, but BTS are really something special. They carried around a picture of Yoongi all night at the MMA’s and the MAMA’s. They even called him during one of their speeches and consistently mentioned him. BTS is a family.
Also, I would add that they didn't just leave a space for him where it was convenient (choreo, so they wouldn't have to change it), but even in places where it would be more convenient for them to just fill in the space (the line up at the beginning of ON or the end of it) they still made a point in leaving it. Also, there's obviously the fact that they can't go five minutes without mentioning Yoongi :D :D :D.
As you said, it's normal for groups to fill in the missing spot, so no one would probably think twice about it if they did. Instead they chose to leave a gap, something that purposefully makes the choreo imperfect and incomplete, to show that they can't be complete with a member missing.
I love the fact that they carry a picture of him. They have some much brotherly love
I think they are simply at a point that they can be less strict in giving a perfect performance as a nice gesture for one of their member and people esp army will be understanding for it, and BTS/BH know the favorable reaction from army if they did that for Yoongi. There were times before that one of the members were missing and one of the present members would sing/rap their lines. The regular choreography can't be easily changed because of a missing member (they practice for muscle memory and blocking, its an impending disaster to suddenly change things) but for year-end performances logically they can easily adjust like when their choreographer took Yoongi's place. Also, sure not everyone, but there were some groups too who also did this so idk, its really not something special for me anymore, maybe I kinda expected that from them already knowing how close and respectful they are to each other.
Thinking about that makes me so soft...they are very caring and thoughtful to each other...💜💜💜 I purple u BTS💜💜💜..#BTSforever

It's not live. It's pre-recorded. Only because of covid. All of their other prior year MMA and MAMA are live. Not this years.

In every performance that they have done since Yoongi has been out for his surgery, they have left him a spot open, and they haven't sang his part. They have let his part play from recording. It has been a very beautiful tribute. In the past, they would've filled in for a hurt member, but not this time. I think it has spoke to how far they've come and how much ARMY loves each member individually, that we don't want them replaced, not even by another member. And they know that. There has only been one exception. To see that, you need to react to the 2020 MAMA awards show. It's AMAZING! ARMY lost their freaking minds! I know I did! Bawling ugly freaking tears.

I don't think there are many suggestions about it, but you really should also watch BTS on MAMA 2020, the performances for ON was grandiose and the one for life goes on was really really mesmerizing (with hologram SUGA appearance). Dynamite was also fun. Even if you don't react at least watch them, you really will be mind blown.
Btw, I know many ARMYs prefer performances from one or another award show, but in my opinion BTS work so hard to make different stages for each that it would be a pity to miss any of their performances, especially since they always put their heart & soul, their blood sweat and taers into each and every performance. That is why I always check all of their performances. Anw GVG stay safe and healthy and really hope you will also watch BTS performances on MAMA 2020, they were so so good.
