    The Why Question is important at any company. Google definitely asks this question, hopefully this advice helps!

    • @BenyRubinstein
      @BenyRubinstein Před 2 lety +2

      It does! While the question sounds straightforward, it's too easy to fall into the trap of giving a generic, impersonal question that doesn't tell the interviewer anything about who we are and why this is a purposeful, long-term match!

    My interview experience: The recruiter was straight on to business and no fluff. Sent me over to the hiring manager. The hiring manager was late a few minutes, joined the video, and then asked for a few more minutes to finish up something. Okay, no problem. Then we go off with a laundry list of questions. I try to make it a friendly conversation but I am swiftly cut off with yet another question. The hiring manager is constantly looking all over the screen and obviously doing some work while I speak. The interview ends with me asking a few questions and finishes off right on time. Previously, I have looked him up and he has less education/experience/GCP knowledge than me. Not sure if that mattered or what was going on but it feels like I had pretty much zero chance of succeeding in that interview. Thought Google would do better.

    • @jeffhsipepi
      @jeffhsipepi  Před 3 lety +6

      Zekoomrkva, I hearted this comment because I sincerely appreciate you sharing this experience with the community. Every company will have those interviewers that are having a bad day and or are just not good at interviewing, it sounds like this is the case. And unfortunately, this happens all the time, including at Google. What can you do, provide feedback to your Recruiter. Pay it forward, you may not get the job, but maybe the Recruiter will provide feedback, and maybe a future candidate will have a better experience. I am really sorry to hear this happened, but keep trying, obviously they like your background. Thank you for sharing.

    • @zekoomrkva
      @zekoomrkva Před 3 lety +1

      @@jeffhsipepi Jeff, I am thinking that providing feedback to the recruiter is a bit risky for many reasons. It's just a terrible luck to land an opportunity that comes once in a decade and then run into the wall. That's life what can you do :)

    • @jeffhsipepi
      @jeffhsipepi  Před 3 lety +7

      @@zekoomrkva So you have to do what is best for you, and I get that, but it is really about the tone. If you say I wanted to provide some feedback on my interview experience and highlight what happened it would be helpful. What your interviewer did is not acceptable at any company, they did not respect you or your time. Again, I want you to focus on you, but it upsets me that people get in front of their dream opportunity and stuff like this happens.

      @jeffhsipepi  Před 3 lety +1

    • @jeffhsipepi
      @jeffhsipepi  Před rokem +1

      Maximus, even if you get contacted by them, you should still have an answer of why you would be interested in working there. And what I recommend if you are not interested is not to interview at that specific company because typically this will show up throughout the interview process.

    I have a tricky question that's bothering me for a while now. How will an interviewer take it when I say I did prepare for this question? As we all know, including the interviewer people prepare for this answer. So what is the best way to let the interviewer know that I have prepared for this answer and made some points regarding this question?

    • @jeffhsipepi

    Thanks a lot for your videos, I am preparing for my interview that is going to be next week and these are very helpful!
    I got a tip from the recruiter saying that we need to stand out and try to come up with different answers than the other candidates so the interview remembers us afterwards.
    Thus, to what extent would you recommend for us to be creative with these questions? Thanks!

    Hi Jeff! Great content! Do you happen to have a video on follow ups and how you would go about addressing them?
    I had a interview with Google (my 2nd interview) last week and my interviewer wasn't able to give me any info on when to expect a reply. I was thinking about reaching out to my recruiter (who conducted the 1st interview, but wasn't present on the 2nd one) to see if they would be able to give me this info as well as show my interest for the opportunity.

      Jessie, yup, many people feel this way, why should I have to practice such a straightforward question? Because this is typically, one of the first questions you will be asked in an interview. And an answer that is not structured and has not been practiced will likely fall flat. And you are still building first impressions with your interviewer. So, do not overlook this question, it is important. And like any interview question, it requires practice to get it right.
