He likely only wanted to counter-sue to go for a settlement of both of of them just dropping their charges so it could disappear. Even if he DOES counter-sue, I hope the dude doesn't take such a deal. USA police pretty much never are. Only the most horrific crimes with the most undeniable evidence will get them more than a paid suspension, and even the ones that are fired are just re-hired by another precinct or state as long as they weren't sent to prison.
I don't know about where this happened, but in my area police are unionized and it's virtually impossible to fire one.
Besides, it looks bad on the brass if you have cops under you that need to be fired, it's way easier to sweep them under the rug

Just looked into this, off-duty cop was a school resource officer when this took place. Following the investigation he was removed from his position as an SRO, suspended for 5 days from the department and must take 3 years of de-escalation training, he was also charged with 3rd degree assault and breach of peace.

Corporal Allen Ganter, the officer in the video, got 5 days unpaid suspension and 3 years mandatory de-escalation training for violating the police department's internal code of conduct. He is due in court in January.
He shouldn't get qualified immunity because he wasn't on duty (not that they should have it anyways). Cops are supposed to get immunity for stuff they do in the line of duty, but once you're off duty you're just supposed to be another citizen, not that it plays out like that very often.
