Yes he scored 2(first one lucky, second well deserved) but looking at how he played I think he could've done way more. You could spot a lack of motivation amongst the players. Dest(just a shadow), Lenglet(loads of mistakes), Dembele(...inefficient), miscoordination in defense, no personality when having possession... Look man, he’s the best player to have ever lived as far as I’m concerned, but Messi needs to leave. You have an issue boiling up that he’s bigger than the club; Half the time when I see supposed fans of Barça, they’re actually just fans of Messi. They don’t watch the games, they watch CZcams compilations of how good he is. I haven’t watched La Liga regularly in a while, I stopped when Barça started their decline (I give no fucks about what happens in the spanish league but they used to play some of the sexiest football I’ve ever seen) but the issue now is that Messi is one of the last remnants of that era, and the fans treat him like he can bring this team back up. No. He can’t. He’s just a man, no matter how godlike his touch. The red card in this game (unacceptable by the way, not even a proper challenge just out and out violence) shows this. In my opinion, Barça need to move on from Messi because they have been the Lionel Messi show AND NOTHING ELSE for too long. Their best players from that era, the ones who helped Messi just shred everyone while playing perfect, silky football, are gone. Xavi, Iniesta, etc. Moreover, the armband needs to go to someone else. Messi isn’t meant for leadership, but rather to be the greatest tool of the club, Roy Keane, Tony Adams, Baresi, Puyol etc weren’t their clubs best players, but incredible captains because everyone feared them. We all are in awe of Messi, but I can’t imagine him implementing a win at all costs mentality in this squad.
Ultimately, the other players are currently in the shadow of the GOAT, and are being stifled by his frankly insane influence over the club and fanbase. He might be a terrible chairman, but the entire situation with Bartomeu was insane. No player should be able to pull rank on the chairman. United sold Beckham cause he was getting bigger than the club, and it turned out pretty fucking well in the end. You can’t grow as a team if you’re still hanging on hoping to watch Messi elevate this team. Sell him on, rebuild, and let new stars come through the Barça gates, as they always do
