    I can give some advice because i really cares so someone will get my point , I.e cape town still have hope. believe me , they have hills and mountains , so they can plant trees in it , these prevent soil erosion , maintain humidity, maintain groundwater level and also planting more trees works like a speed breakers to wind currents so the rainfall more in cape town area.

      That won't help. The issue is much bigger than that.
      I was born in Cape Town and live here now, but grew up 1600km north of Cape Town in a town surrounded by endless deserts and seawater.
      That town, only received rain once every two years. That's because just off the coast there's a permanent high pressure system that's the cause of the extremely low rainfall.
      That permanent high pressure system is moving south as ocean waters are warming up. In other words, it's moving towards Cape Town.
      I grew up in a place with nothing but seawater and sanddunes, that had a lot of systems in place to more efficiently use water. E.g., reusing waste water for gardens, etc.
      But, lately rainfall has increased slightly and floods happen because stormwater infrastructure was non-existent in that town... because it was never needed. That town wasn't adapted for the situation.
      Cape Town too isnt adapted for it's new situation...and that's the real problem. But it will be eventually.

      Droughts happen and are normal, it is Africa afterall. The real problem is Cape Town is a huge city, and the large population uses up resources faster than a small town would in Nevada. If the population was smaller, they would've been able to weather this until the drought is over.

Your idea may not be all that wild, it is more due to a lack of knowledge and perspective. It may appeal to your feeling of entitlement to water as a drinkable resource, but not everyone will go full Karen to wait for a situation to resolve.

    This is completely out of date. It has been raining beautifully. Dam levels are rising. Water saving measures have had the desired effect. Many homes have full tanks in their gardens (I have 2500 l) to use for flushing an other non-potable needs.

    • @zahraaesmael342
      @zahraaesmael342 Před 6 lety +10

      So because it's rained "beautifully" in SOME areas three or four times, you think that's helping? We've received water from private farmers, which raised the dam levels- not because of rain. The fact that many homes have tanks doesn't mean that things are changing. The majority still don't have the most useful mechanisms to deal with this crisis.

    Sady, water shortage is not the only problem in South Africa. Rampant crime (violent crime and sexual crime), and extreme political corruption -( politicians stealing money and fleecing taxpayers) contribute largely to the mismanagement of basic services like water supply and other services like electricity supply. In ANC-run regions like Kwa-Zulu Natal, it is not uncommon for unsanitary, brown water to come out of taps and residents have to contend with "load shedding" which means electricity is cut for hours at a time. Potholes in roads have become a common sight all over South Africa. Add to this, rampant violent crime and reverse racism have created a massive diaspora of educated people leaving South Africa - immigrating to other countries to enable themselves to get jobs and to live in environments where their children can grow up safely. This "brain drain" has left South Africa vulnerable to corruption and mismanagement. Water supply is the responsibility of the Federal government - it is a human right and the ANC needs to step up to the plate. What has the ANC government done for the past 25 years to improve the plight of the poor? The report is misleading and does not touch on any of the substantive issues.

      I assume 'living that every day' refers to police murders in the United States. There are not white gang members targeting black farmers and killing them in their homes, setting children on fire. We are increasingly governed by politicians who report to transnational corporations. While the executives and shareholders of those corporations have had a high concentration of white men and Americans, the world's ruling 0.01% is filling up with Saudis, Indians and Chinese billionaires who benefit from ties to the communist PRC. Super-rich people of every origin are equally capable of war-profiteering and exploiting other countries' natural resources. White farmers in South Africa are so far down the global corporate hierarchy, you should be siding with them. It is my sincere hope that African countries can avoid turning anger over inequality against a convenient, identifiable scapegoat. The continued growth in clean energy and food security requires peace.

    Aussie here, my state had a 20yr drought, it ended only a couple of yrs ago. As per usual it's the rural areas who have to live with drought while the coastal get to pretend it isn't happening. That is until it starts affecting them. Even if this has never happened before, the moment the dam hit an unusually low point there should have been the clamp down and other options, now it is too late to START?!... WTH have the govt been doing?

    4:23 is the norm. This how people in townships live. They don't pay for water. They use a communal taps and ablution facilities. In most cases you will find these taps running throughout the day thereby wasting many litres of water. People in suburbs pay for their water.

  • @TheJCG9
    @TheJCG9 Před 6 lety +5

    The "have and have nots" water problem isn't as clear cut as this show would like you to believe.
    The government of the city today isn't cutting water off or not expanding infrastructure because people are not white, infrastructure exists in the built up areas. The problem is that there has been a massive influx of people from elsewhere in the country, most notably of black people who did not live there before 1994. These people go and set up shacks wherever they can find open ground, most of the times illegally. And the city can't keep up. Again, NO CITY on this planet, except maybe in China (they have massive manpower, they have a autocratic state that can dictate where you live, and they go in very cheaply - so many of those buildings are high-rises that are not of the best construction), can erect housing structure as fast and randomly as people are moving into the city.
    The poor are setting up in places where the water table and periodic flooding (not an issue now, but the WC droughts only last so long, then it pisses cats and dogs) don't allow for human settlement, let alone sewers etc.
    Yes there are legacy issues that need to be sorted, most notably more policing of the city center, coupled with more rent-controlled housing, new low cost developments inside and external. Something will have to be done to control the influx of people who do not even have jobs yet when they come here, however I wouldn't know where to begin. Decentralization of the industries to points around the city and perhaps to other Municipalities etc.
    There are social problems here, but AJ+ seems to be hard set on pushing a very divisive narrative without giving a balanced accounting.

    5:20 Maybe if ALL the residents, in townships, paid for water bills, as the rich (White people), then they would also have water. Just like the "rich people". They fail to understand. That if they paid for water, like the rest of civilized South Africans, then they could also have pipelines laid out and receive water into their homes. Rich people (white people) PAY to have that privilege. Stop turning it into a rich vs. poor, or white vs. black privileged thing. Even if rich people gave them FREE pipelines, it wouldn't last. Just look at their government. A good structured government was handed to the ANC. With a good economy, etc. Now it has become nothing. If someone needs to be blamed... It should be the current government. They are clueless.
