    Thanks for the video , I have exams in 8 days .
    I always struggle with writing to much and waffling to much about one point rather than keeping it short and brief with a wide range of points…Do you have any advice on how much I should write about on each point . And do you usually use a P.E.E structure ?

    Hi, this video is so helpful, thanks a lot! Also, do you think its best to read the whole extract first before answering questions or going bit by bit so reading. For example, reading the first section then listing 5 things u are told about an character

      Hi! That’s an EXCELLENT question, thank you so much!
      So the answer entirely depends on your reading ability. If you’re not confident, then rule off and take it Q by Q. If you are, you have the chance to immerse yourself in the paper so read first then answer Qs (but still rule off!) absolute best of luck! PS you can list more than five if you want, they’ll just check/mark them all 👍

    Hello, I have been told by different teachers different things when it comes to adding an overview to the answers. Should I go straight into the quotes and tracking or add one or two lines at the beginning as an overview? Or even do a whole paragraph on an overview?

      Overviews are useful in places, mostly literature. They are useful for Q5 on this paper and Language P2 but nowhere else on Language I would say

    You know for the 10 mark questions, when you put 10 quotes in your answer but briefly explain what they mean with simple language do you get full marks?

      I would recommend something like 8 quotes with a couple commented on in a little detail. To get full marks it requires a little more than a simple one mark per minute

    For the 10 markers of question 3,4 and 5 , is your model example response of a grade 9 answer enough to write in the exam to secure top grades

      Hi! Certainly a top grade, it should meet all the requirements for a 9 if not an 8, it’s such a fine margin between the two.

    My school said for Q2 to write 3-5 small paragraphs with 1 quote per paragraph and for Q3-5 write 7-10 small paragraphs with 1 quote per paragraph is that fine?

    Is there any difference between aqa and eduqas and if i have done aqa gcse lang previously can i do eduqas and still apply to medicine? As i’m from manchester and this concerns me

      Hi! So in terms of the examination papers there are differences but they’re slight. In terms of the qualifications they’re exactly the same so if you have a gcse already they’ll never know which exam board you studied under

    I have my exam tomorrow and I don’t know what it is but I always mess up on the reading questions, I suspect it’s a structure issue maybe or that I don’t get straight to the point and waffle leaving me with less time so that I miss a question, any tips?

      1. Pick your specific quotes (short and sharp)
      2. TRACK (At the start/later on/towards the end)
      3. Remember - 1 mark per minute

      Avoid, apart from maybe Q5. The rest isn’t worth it

    I never know if I should use PEEL for my answers. for question 2, do you need to use it or do I just PE. And for the 10-mark questions do I write one PEEL for each quote or do I do the same thing as question 2?

    When using quotes do you use 'xxx' or "xxx" ? As in the video you have used 'xxx' but my school told us to use "xxx"

      Ah, that’s a brilliant question.
      Whatever you do, the key is consistency.
      I teach this -
      Quoting - ‘xxx’
      Speech - “xxx”
      Quoting speech - ‘ “xxx” ‘
      As I say, the rules get muddled but that’s what I was taught at university. With that being said, whatever you do just be consistent and don’t muddle what you do 👍

      In all honesty probably not. Without a little analysis of two or three you’d struggle to get beyond a 7/10. Top band marks start at 8/10

      You need a bit of both - essentially something you’ve learnt from the text. Always write it as a list, though.

      You’re welcome, Holly! It really depends on how confident you are as a reader. In total no more than ten minutes but that could be reading it question by question depending on the lines or all in one go

      I wouldn’t say it would mess with your marks. Truthfully the examiner won’t look for any specific layout on such a question but they do want to see coverage which is demonstrated through quotes

    idk if you will reply now, but examtommorow, for each line do i not need to add an effect. Like, this hypeerbole 'flames form Hell' suggetss the gravity of the situation as comparison to hell sugests its violent powers, which develops dramatic feeling. or can i just say the hyperbole'...' suggets gravity of situation, developing dramtic feeling. Idk if i can do second, but thaat would save a lot of time. Thanks

      Not for every line - depending on the quote every other quote at most but even then that’s a stretch. Just two or three ‘mini dig’s within a ten mark Q will be fine

      It will usually be differences of either appearance or personality, they may appear subtle but they will come to the surface with enough time

    My teacher said that to achieve 10/10 we need 10 p.e.e chains with quotes in each one. Is this true because I can't write fast enough to complete the paper in time

    can you guarantee that short snappy paragraphs will get me more marks than quite long paragraphs?

      Thanks for the comment! It would be dishonest of me to *guarantee* anything. What I can say, however, is that there is a strong correlation between paragraphs packed with textual evidence and gaining higher marks. There should be a quote for ten markers in every other line as a minimum. I hope this helps 😊

I keep telling myself that “I won’t get the marks if I don’t mention … or …”. Could you help me with this? do i need to mention every quote I find??

      That’s such a good question, it’s perfectly natural to feel that way. The truth of the matter is you’ll always have more quotes than you need - no 10 mark question needs more than 8 at the most, I would say. There’s more to it but crudely speaking marks 9 and 10 are gained by providing a slightly deeper level of analysis on certain chosen quotes. I hope that makes sense. Pick your battles, you’re not expected to put them all in 👍

      Truthfully, you can write your answer to each question as a simple one-block paragraph, as you’re not marked for paragraphing on Fiction Reading component. The only exception to this is Q1 where you MUST LIST your answer

      It depends what you’re aiming to achieve. You can get a strong 5, possibly a 6, with PEEL, however anything higher won’t really be possible as you need greater freedom in your writing.

      Honestly the element of paragraphs is all down to choice, it’s good practice in the general sense but they don’t discriminate one way or the other for paragraphs it’s all about the amount and quality of quotes you provide.

      The mark scheme just has five general things to be honest but I always recommend putting them as quotes where you can.
      Also for Q2 you can still get up a few marks for just listing but no more.

      Think of it as one paragraph that has 8-9 PEs in, two or three of which have that extra E
