- Manchester City lost to Arsenal after a penalty shootout in the Community Shield at Wembley.
Substitute Cole Palmer fired City ahead with a wonderful strike in the 77th minute with a left-foot curler into the top corner from the edge of the box.
But Arsenal equalised 11 minutes into injury time when Leandro Trossard’s low shot deflected off Manuel Akanji, wrongfooting Stefan Ortega Moreno taking the game to penalties.

I’m an Arsenal fan but still we all have to appreciate how much work both teams put into that game!
Quality performance on both ends of the pitch. Sometimes the shots go your way, and you never know unless you have a go at goal. Props to Ramsdale keeping Arsenal in the match. What a great beginning to a new year from both teams!

it was one pre-season friendly match - all the pundits predicting arsenal would easily win as they had a much longer preseason (5 games) than City (3 games) and their fitness and organisation levels would make it a cert.... I think it was obv that some of the City team were still a bit off the pace. It shows a small club mentality when winning the CS by pens after a scrawpy deflected equalizer = winning the most important football trophy in the history of the world....(the fans went mental - even the commentator on the radio said it was OTT) the more i hear from Arsenal fans the more they sound like the Utd fanbase... entitled sanctimonious bitter and grasping at any crumb of comfort to help them pass through their period of little success.

as an Arsenal fan, I can say that the best thing after this match was feeling, that it was a fight between 2 equal teams because last season showed us that we were not on the same level as Man City yet. Maybe we had a lack of Saliba or Zina in defense or some mental force, but it's a fact that we lost both MC matches without any chances. But this season seems to change this and I'm excited for the start of the EPL. It will be a great rivalry

I was mainly mad at the 2 extra minutes that were added of extra time which gave them the opportunity to score. But I do have to compliment Arsenal on holding their own yesterday. They really prove season by season that they are a force to be reckoned with. Head up City, we might have a hell of a season ahead of us
Don't forget Newcastle United, counter-attacking football of ManUtd under ETH which is surprisingly effective against possession based teams like City. Plus they have Rashford who is very effective in counter-attacking football. Liverpool and of course Arsenal.
And also Brighton and Hove Albion who is doing great under De Zerbi.
