  • Here's an answer a viewer question about using the auxiliary port on the JVC HM170U. This should also work for the HM200 and the GY-LS300 since the menu system and layout of the cameras is pretty much identical. The auxiliary port is the mic jack at the back of the camera where you can plug in a 3.5mm or 1/4 inch mic.

    Thanks for the great service you provide for the world. I have a question. How can I make my JVC 4K Cam compatible with my MAC desktop using "Ultra Studio Black magic mini recorder?" Do I need a specific setting for the JVC? The Black Magic doesn't recognize my JVC 4K Cam. Thanks.

      Sorry, I'm not a MAC user and I've never used the recorder you are talking about

      As you say it, you have the HD mini recorder: Most likely you will have to tell the SDI/HDMI setting of the camera to output FHD instead of 4K and if you don't have to do that, it could be it's outputting a framerate the HD mini recorder doesn't support. Time to get the manual out ;)

    Is this an actual 170u you’re using for this tutorial? If so, how did you get the lens hood off? I’ve tried taking mine off so I can use a teleprompter and either mine is stuck, built on, or I’m just doing something wrong to get it off.

      No, this is ls300, but I remember the hood coming off. There's a button that you hold down before you twist if I remember correctly. Look up the manual online

    How do you change/bring more volume out of the camera for recording purposes?

    What SD cards do you use?
    I can't seem to find any that work with 4k settings. They work fine in 1080, but I get choppy recordings when shooting 4k

      I use Toshiba Exceria Pro full size cards. I would seriously recommend against using smaller sizes (most manufacturers also state they don't guarantee anything when using those). Those smaller cards get a beating and will heat up quite significantly compared to a full size card.

    Can you link ch1 and ch2 together (xlr)? I just don't want to duplicate the channel to the other side in post.

    • @MichaelWTurner
      @MichaelWTurner  Před 4 lety +1

      Go to the xlr handle and switch ch2 to input 1. Whatever mic you have plugged into input 1 will be sent to ch2.

      Not sure how I can. The video is all that know to do. Try changing your rode mic from mono mode to stereo or vice versa. Make the rode is turned all the way up. Check your connections. Just a few things you can check.

      I checked out your work. Pretty impressive - the wedding and dental office commercial. It looks like you are using better cameras than the 170u. What kind of work are you planning on using it for?
