  • Taking a look at $150k-$200k Express Homes (DR Horton) and LGI Homes in Crowley, Texas, south of Fort Worth, Texas in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area. It's a growing community for sure, with new parks and rows of houses.

    I moved from Cali to Florida in 2018 and in less than 6 months, I was able to purchase my home. I went with Lgi as my builder and paid 200k for my brand new build. My house would probably go for at least 500k- 600k in Los Angeles.

      crazylicious85 overall yes I am. Fortunately for me, the majority of things that I am unhappy about are cosmetic such as a bigger patio slab in the back yard, and the initial landscaping in the front. The builder also did not grade our community properly so a lot of us need French drains installed to prevent flooding. Other than that, I love my home

    Great video. Whenever I see these new houses built it never ceases to amaze me how these builders aren't thinking about the potential for how easily a tornado or high winds will easily level them. It's like they are built out of toothpicks. No wonder they are built in 6 to 9 months. Otherwise the price is very compelling. Demand and prices are going up. Taxes unfortunately will increase along with the values. I am in Dallas and I pay $10K in taxes for the house I have lived in for 18 years. Our values have gone up and really more than anything the land value alone has increased 3 fold. I am considering moving. My home was built in 1969 and I think homes were built sturdier back then than they are now which would make me think twice about buying one of these new homes. I'd like a bit more reassurance from the builder regarding the storm resistance before I would consider one of them. But the price makes for a compelling argument for me to get out of Dallas and head a bit West close to Ft. Worth.

      I’m a native Texan and I cannot get over how high taxes have gotten all across Texas. It’s disgusting. A lot of people can’t afford to live in homes they’ve had for years due to the rise in taxes.

    • @tritosac
      @tritosac Před 4 lety +5

      @@Sabbathissaturday Yeah it's become unbearable. I'm dipping into savings to pay mine since I am self employed and have inconsistent income. I own my home free and clear yet I feel like a tenant in my own home. But unlike a tenant I can't call my tax assessor to have someone come out and repair my leaky roof or fix my air conditioner if it stops working. I must somehow find a way to pay for repairs and maintenance on top of saving for the yearly extortion. I wasn't born in Texas but I have been here since 1978 and all my Mother's family are native Texans. I hate to see the direction Dallas is headed in and I hope all of Texas doesn't go the same way. Dallas sadly will be another Chicago, LA or Seattle soon. I need to at least plan my exit from Dallas soon. I hate to sell my home but these taxes are too outrageous. At least some other cities in Texas might not be as bad if I get a home that is appraised for less value.

      tritosac - I’m also self employed. I’ve been looking all across Texas to buy a house. Taxes have gone up everywhere. Although, some places are just crazy ridiculous. I wonder how much it costs to actually build the place, wages must be much lower in Texas, like they still have the federal minimum wage, and usually labor for home construction is much higher than minimum, though the construction workers here in CA drive really old beat up pickup trucks so maybe they don't make that much. Caveat of living in Texas is that you're in tornado alley. Here we have earthquakes. Haven't had any major ones lately though, and wildfires can be avoided if you're in the right location, hurricanes and tornadoes are more difficult to avoid in Texas as they can go anywhere I think.

    You will pay between 2.5 and 3.5% depending on the county. Extremely expensive. The normal should be at most 1.25% as in other states (CA, NV...). So yes, you get a lot of home for the price, but you are paying on the other end for that purchase. The other thing to remember, property values in Texas do not fluctuate as much as other states, thereby minimizing your gain at the sale. Just something to think about.

      Correct, because Crowley is south of Fort Worth. Most people I know of commuting to Irving/Plano live in houses between $300-$400k. I think Lewisville is a good center point between Irving and Plano, with houses between $275k-$325k.

Please be honest and tell people how your car insurance INCREASES because of the high accident rates in DFW area. Potholes everywhere, count in replacing your tires and shocks OFTEN. That's why houses are cheaper in Texas and other southern states. Thermo-Ply doesn't provide as good lateral support as plywood or OSB provide.
