  • It is a modern approach in plant breeding, wherein the species barrier can be overcome by somatic cell fusion to form viable hybrids. Somatic hybridization is generally used to induce disease resistance and improve certain qualities in the plants. Pomato is one such example which is a hybrid of potato and tomato.

    I think some genetic codes have a part here or there that is useful to another organism, which can get sent through a tree via an Ectomycchorizae network. You could start to gather these beneficial traits after awhile which seem better than "normal" evolutionary traits, which take millions and millions of years to develop.
    You could take a pigment trait for instance, pass it through a mushroom, to a tree, which would then display a different pigment color, permanently or at least until a better trait is available to it... you could maybe even pass the trait to a human if it was made compatible with the DNA... which is what I am, just a collection of different parts... like a lycan.
