// ABOUT THIS VIDEO
This was my first time using white oak in a woodworking project, and I really liked it. For this dining table, I took a different approach with the stretchers, but basically not having one. Instead, I made the upper portion of the leg more robust, and it attaches directly to the underside of the table.

If your day job isn't woodworking it should be filmmaking. I've gotten to the point where I won't watch a new video of yours until I'm sure I won't be interrupted as I watch, usually with both hands wrapped around my morning coffee. It's a great way to get a positive start on the day. Just out of curiousity, what inspired the use of oak for this build? I'm so accustomed to your use of walnut I thought I'd ask about the change.
Thank you for yet another outstanding offering.
Hey Steve...really appreciate the kind words - very cool!
As for the oak, I just wanted to try something different, and I knew I wanted something lighter in color. Oak has always had a negative connotation for me, so I wanted to break that.
My day job is neither woodworking nor filmmaking - Hopefully someday it will be both though. Preferably somewhere in that intersection ;-)
Oh, coffee! I forgot all about coffee this morning... too caught up watching these videos. Maybe it would be better with coffee, too. I love the video as a whole and your calm voice just entice to relax and have a break.
Definitely agree with Steve on this one, except I'm more of a fall asleep to it kind of person. The music and soft tone in your stories is ridiculously soothing. Hopefully you can achieve your dream of making this your dayjob. You've got a lot of talent in both areas.
Agree.
Naaaah, a story teller
MUY buena calidad, el texto imagenes. czcams.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO Un manuel muy completo y trabajado. Resulta muy práctico. Para principiantes y profesionales. Lo recomiendo
Super beautiful as always! And thanks again for the shout out!
Thanks Dave...and thank you for bringing that jig into my world. It's got all sorts of uses :)
Chris, I just finished a version of this table. A bit shorter so it will fit in its new location. The video and all the responses that you provided to viewers' questions were helpful in the build. It was designed to be a Christmas present, but Christmas got in the way. The new owners are excited about it being in their dining room. It was a satisfying build. Thank you for the idea of the table. You included the key information that made it possible.
I appreciate the way you "sneak up" to your pencil marks by doing repetitive cuts and how you move thoughtfully around your equipment. There is a zen to your method. Subscribed.
This video and project are equally as stunning. I wish it was a full length 2 hour movie.
Ha ha!! Outstanding table Mr. Solomone! The narration, once again was eloquent and charming, leaving the lift till the end to put the smiles on our faces with "all we'll remember is the three glorious months we had it before I sold it, to make room......etc"
You create beauty. That's how you give second life of the wood! Thank you from Bulgaria.
Thanks Stanislav!
Two of my obsessions: woodworking and astronomy. Nicely done Chris. Love your work man!!
:)
That's a beautiful table. It'll be the inspiration for a desk I plan to build. Thanks for sharing.
Chris, you have a great design style with incredible attention to detail. I am enjoying your videos and narration.
Love how you gave the illusion of stretcher, without actually putting one in. Great design!
Thanks Kevin!
i like the way you said "mercury retrograte". Great video and project.
Love your design on this piece. Very pleasing to the eye.
Even though the splines are of the same wood, I think they add a lot to the design of the table. I also love your explanations of what you are doing or thinking in all of your videos. Thanks for sharing,
Thanks Felix...appreciate the kind words. :)
You need to write a freakin book. You're very eloquent and listening to your stories about your projects is as enjoyable as the pieces you create.
Thanks Paul...maybe someday. For now...I can barely read them :)
That is a super clean design Chris, thanks for sharing😀
This was such a purely, authentic and relaxing video. Great work!
The table is beautiful, and i very much enjoy the narrative and story which goes with each build. I'm about to embark on a large walnut dining table build. The plans I've drawn up 5 years ago are basically like yours; a top with four legs which aren't traditionally 90* strait up and down. All of your work is beautiful and I really enjoy your attention to detail.
Thanks man...appreciate the kind words, and best of luck on your build :)
Awesome movie Chris and just as awesome table. The oak is really beautiful, I like the beveled edges of the top and really like the subtlety of the splines they almost make it seem as if it's a super fancy joint of some sort. Love you work man and grateful I get to support you and watch you create. You're truly inspiring.
Hey Pat...thank you for the kind words and for the support. I was really pleased with the Oak. I'll definitely use it for more projects. I think it works really well on pieces like this that are large and with fairly simple/minimalist shapes.
your videos are absolute therapy, and your unique sense of style and putting the elegant, humanistic angles on your works are really beautiful ! Thank you ! I'm going to go work in the the shop this weekend :)
Nice...that's what it's all about. Thanks :)
The woodwork is so beautiful and this video is so soothing
This table is beautiful, thank you for sharing.... Your work is definitely a reflection of your love for the wood.
Thanks man :)
I agree with Steve; I would like to start my day with your inspiring video.
Thanks and greetings from North California.
First time to this channel and I have to say, your work as awesome as your presentation. Very well done on both.
Thanks John...hope you dig all the videos as much :)
beautiful piece of art.. and I love the way you narrating the video..
Super chill, love the attention to detail, the calm chill vibes with the guitar. Vid and the woodworking on. Pointe!
Another amazing build! The design is so clean and beautiful!
Thansk Rob
Man I miss your old video formats! The solo guitar, the laid back narration, the deep thoughts. :) I mean don't get me wrong, I love your new stuff too, but this was nice to watch. ...anyhow, I'm looking back at your old table builds, thinking its time I made something big like this, now if I can only convince the wife to take the plunge (cost of wood, potential cost of failure lol!).
Still killing it!!!!!! I'm always stoked to see you videos in my feed.
thanks Scoop :)
I love how you work so steady and deliberate. It shows a lot of care. I do a lot of bookbinding and that's just one slow and careful step after another. It's calming and really satisfying. I would imagine that's how your wood work feels for you.
Hey Maddox...thanks. I think it looks more relaxing on video than it actually is. Especially this build. It was hot and I was dirty and lugging around heavy stuff. I definitely has those moments of relaxation, but more often than not...it's just work :)
Lovely and elegant table. Nicely done.
I love it! Beautiful design!
I love the new foureyes content, but I really miss the tenor of these videos. There was a peace and honesty to them. I was learning, but also feeling. Thank you
I loved the twist ending, Chris. It made me laugh out loud!
Thanks Gianni!
I was indeed new to your channel. I really like the kindness in everything you're saying! Great work! :)
Thanks Stephan...welcome :)
Pretty cool!
Really like your style of furniture!
Maaahn the way you talk!!! Won't matter if it were 6 months or 7 years.. Something like that just blows ones mind away !! Maahn I always look forward to ur videos. And yes you didn't show how you attached /or didn't attach the table top to those beautiful woodgasmic legs.( Now those are SOME legs with slot cut and grain change at the joints total respect to u dude)
Loved it!
Thanks Yashika...appreciate it :)
Cette table est magnifique !
Bravo !
Think this is one of my favorites projects you've done. I especially like the lack of plywood haha
haha...what it lacks in plywood it makes up for in white oak
Congratulations, very good, very work greetings from Valencia Venezuela.
Gorgeous 50s style table. Wish I had the equiptment to make one too
Parabéns pelo projeto. Muito obrigada por compartilhar !
Good call with multiple passes on the tracksaw. We've learned to do this (usually in 10mm increments) as our ts 55 has overheated a few times.
Great minds!
I can't figure out what that would do for a through cut.
If I actually used a dining table this would be it! lol Nice work Chris!
Amazing video and text. This is very unique. Loved it.
Awesome table Chris! Just got around to watching it. I think a lot of people have a bad connotation of Oak. Quartersawn White Oak is one of my absolute favorites to work with.
Thanks man...yeah, I'll definitely use it again. I really ike the way it came out. Love something like walnut, but it would have been too dark for this room and set up I think.
So beautiful 😍, cant believe you sold it!.
Nice. Love the angles as always.
wow that's a beautiful table
Awesome video as always Chris! Really looking forward to your work with that company if it all goes through!
Me too!!!
I love your approach to design, aesthetics and utility. Cheers!
Thanks Aaron :)
Nice video and great work as always!
Beautiful table! You made a complicated project look easy, which is a skill of its own.. Those washers look like a great solution, didn't know about those.
Me neither until this project...definitely very cool :)
Yeah thats a great design! Well done.
I just can't get over the narration in your vids. The play on words is a perfect chemistry of skill and thoughtfulness. You have a gift. Your writing matches your woodworking. But you should be an author! Wow. Fucking amazing.
haha...thanks Peter. I don't know about the author part though...I can barely read a book, let alone write one :)
Awesome job Chris.
simply ans elegant !! love it !
You are like the Bob Ross of woodworking.
haha..."just sand the devil out of it"
Absolutely beautiful! Great video!
That is beautiful.
Bellissimo. Sei sempre number ONE!
Awesome table Chris. I had same problem with my track saw until I got a dedicated rip blade. Night and day on hardwood rips
Nice...thanks for the tip Shawn :)
Great job I love this piece
I'm subscribed to like five woodworking channels on CZcams and four eyes is my favorite
:)
i'm addicted to your videos and i watch one of them each night before bed. good job brother
Appreciate it :)
Beautiful design, sir!
I love everything about this table.
Appreciate it!
Wow beautiful dining table !!! :)
amazing design man, lov it!
“People are busy an wife gets in a way” 😂 that’s certainly my experience. Fantastic looking table!❤
beyond beautiful
That's a great looking table 👍
beatiful, Great designs that you manufacture
Gorgeous!
Beautiful work Chris. Always love your videos and work.
Thanks Tom!
very very nice!!! so well made... inspiring. always look forward to your vids. keep on doing what your doing.
Thanks Andrew
I use a really similar vinyl sign from a company under my glue-ups. You're the only other person I've seen with that. Really enjoyed the video, Chris. Oh, and the table is simply beautiful!
haha...nice. I took it from work, we were throwing them out and I though..."hey, this seems like it would make for a great glue mat" Now I have three of them. :)
Chris Salomone So did I! Ha ha. I use one to put on the kitchen table when I'm piling boards that don't need to be in the dusty house. I've not found a use for the third one yet.
That was clean work.
I just finished your freebie coffee table! Love it, and learned so much. I would LOVE to see plans for this table. Could you guys make a course on it?
Very nice Chris!
i really really really like your videos and your voice overs! Thanks for making them :)
Thanks Ned :)
Could I hire you to narrate my life ? Your voice is so soothing..
Sure...why not :)
You sir, deserve a cookie
I second that haha. Seems like a really rad dude.
Great product!!! Would buy again.
That's some fine work Chris!
Chris Salomone is great.
I hit the like button at the 5 second mark ... from watching your videos I KNOW its going to be excellent! Cheers.
haha...thanks man!
Hi, im new on your channel and just finished watching this video. Wow! I enjoyed it a lot! Thank you
Great build!
Excellent as always... me too on the dining table, 10 years in and I'll get round to it any day now..🙄
That's always the way :)
Stunning!
Its a beautiful table! We are in a similar situation....been making stuff for a few years and my wife wants a table, soon. xD if I made that amazing piece and then SOLD it.... she'd kill me for sure!
Very nice work, it is beautiful.
Thanks Raynola!
Hey Chris... I've watched your projects ever since your first coffee table video. Of course, I also watch all 300 gazillion other woodworking CZcamsr's out there as well, but if someone ever asks me which Woodworkers I watch, your channel is always right in the top 5. One reason is... and this took me a little bit of sitting here thinking, "Why do I like Chris Solomane's videos so much?" And I think the answer is... the music. of course the design work you do, and the craftsmanship is top notch. But really... the single-song music that plays throughout the video, without interruption, just kind of droning along... It' great. I'm also a guitar player of 25+ years, so I wanted to ask you two things.
1.) In your first video, ( I think ) you actually showed the guy playing the guitar. I think that, that single short shot of that guy playing the guitar music that I had been hearing, was SO connecting, that I fell in love with the channel right then and there. Why don't you incorporate just a very brief, shot of the guitar being played in each of your videos? Since the music is such a "character" in your story, it just seems like it would complete some kind of invisible circle, or some heady thing like that.
2.) What tuning is that guitar in?! The low E-string sounds like it barely has any tension it's so loose. I love it. I'm just curious, so I can tune mine up and see if I can have a go at the Solomone sound. :-)
Hey Michael...first of all, thank you for the kind words and the message. 95% of the music is done by my best friend (also named Chris) - if you haven't checked out his bandcamp page, give it a look. It is at the bottom of the video descriptions for a link. His music is under the name "Sleepy Pablo". As for why I don't put a shot like that in every video - I think I'll just put it where it naturally fits. In the two where I did, one I was talking about music, so it made sense to show myself playing, in the other it was talking about Chris, and I mentioned that he is the one you're hearing right now, so I showed him. I suspect there will be other opportunities to do similar shots. As for tuning, it varies, personally, I've done some standard, but most are open tuning. Try things like DADCAD. Or just look up "Open G" or "Open C". they are kind of "cheater" tunning. Makes it much easier to improvise for 20 mins without any major miss steps.
U a real Artist👏👏👏... Very nice to watch ur Ideas n Works.👍
Thanks Luis
Damn that's a beautiful table!
haha, the ending is too funny! Your work turned out beautiful as always. From watching many different wood working channels, I find that the best woodworkers are slow and methodical in their work. Watching you apply glue or finish is like watching an old man perfecting Tai Chi. When you make cuts, it's like watching someone practice yoga!
Do you consciously tell yourself to slow down and think about what you are doing, or are you this way naturally?
Thanks for the great content!
Thanks Jacob. A little of both. For the cutting and glue, it's my natural pace - the conscious part has more to do with reminding myself not to rush certain tasks that I know will end up costing me time down the road. So I sneak up on things rather than trying to nail the line on the first shot, etc...
Loving that Katz Moses was a new patron supporter on this video
Beautiful
Hi Chris. Awesome job on this table, really like the look of it. I am currently trying to build a table myself and would like to give the legs you built a go. Is there any way I can acquire/purchase the layout of them?
Nice one, looks great. Interested to see how it has gone with a 45° bevel, as i ended up using that 30° bevel i asked about. Ended up using a massive router bit for it.
Love the concealed legs attachments too.
Thanks Chris...Yeah, I didn't really overthink it with this bevel. I started with a 45 and liked the looks of it so I went with it. Aesthetically I really like it. Working on the laptop, it's not the best as it kind of cuts into your forearms/wrists. But for eating at it's good.
Your video are filmed and edited perfectly!
Thanks Sissy :)
