It's kinda insane that his friends Sami Zayn and Becky Lynch also got hired, and not only that, but all of them have successful careers. Usually, it doesn't have a happy ending like that.
That's all due to Triple H's influence on Vince and for creatin NXT. Had he not been in the corporate creative position he'd been in since 2010, Vince would've just given the titles and main event spots to some other muscle buff roidheads and skimpy clothed lookin females who have one dimensional characters.
Perfect delivery and incredible promo instincts. In one promo, he created a character that is more complex than most in WWE -- jealous and angry but not self-righteous. He knows his feelings are wrong, that he should be happy for his friend, that he should be doing this for his family, but he's so broken that he's decided to lean into the negative emotions instead. It conveys that he's dangerous, a little bit crazy, and unpredictable without having to do anything overtly violent.
He worked with some of the top guys before WWE in ROH. remember when he was in ROH you had Seth Rollins, The Young Bucks, AJ Styles. He worked with the best because he was always the best

I get that the company is experiencing growth like never before, but Kevin's work both on the mic and in the ring is simply incredible. He is the perfect tweener character, and I want to see him be a champions again.
Same here. But him literally main eventing 2 Night-1 Wrestlemanias all but solidifies him as a made man in WWE. Right now, there is a lot to declutter with Dame, Drew (with his best work to date), and Punk settling in ... And then you have Cody-Rock-Roman pretty much pencilled in for next year somehow ... You hope there is some great programs for elite vets like Kevin even if he may not be the marquee guy come Wrestlemania Season.

For those who don’t wonder why would anyone do a tryout in WWE despite years of experience in wrestling,it’s because they’re observing them to see what needs to removed or added in their match especially when they go on the road for over 300 day a year.
Its so wild seeing his ramp up throughout the promo and it's over and then he's back to the self conscious guy at a try out looking for any kind of tell on the judges face. Great human moment.

When Kenta, El Generico (Sami Zayn), Kevin Steen (KO), came to NXT, NXT was just started. Although Daniel Bryan and CM Punk had already made it, indie guys were still not completely trusted with their acting and promo skills at that moment. Considering Daniel Bryan's terrible promo performance when he was in NXT season 1, putting indie guys in NXT for practice actually made some sense.

As for Bobby Roode, at that time more stars from other leagues came to NXT, NXT was becoming bigger, and even became the third brand competing with RAW and SD. Roode did a great job in NXT with the entrance and the theme song, he defeated Shinsuke Nakamura and became the NXT champ. His NXT experience was more successful than that in the main show.

There's a few ways, one of which is starting on the indy circuit and building a name for yourself and hope to get noticed and have a shot one day or you can apply for a tryout on their website and go through their training program at one of their performance centres but I will warn you, it is far from easy and it will be challenging, it will probably break you down but aslong as you fight through it and work hard you may have a shot. It wasn't bad, but even If he spilled incoherent things, what he said was so believable that it made someone believe it. If you compare this promo with what the rest of the roster at that time offered, he was easily above them. And If you compare it with AEW people like Mone or Hook, it's way way better.
That's like expecting an intern to outperform the managers. The guys we see on any promotions are the best of the best, so the level they expect for promo here at a tryout will be way lesser.
