Wick is indeed the guy at the very end. His last name is Sable. If you've read the comic, Rocky's sudden maniacal behavior when they get to the quarry makes a lot more sense. He doesn't like Wick, so delights in destroying his property. He's also just crazy.
His " crazyness" has been tuned up for the pilot thought, he's not THAT maniacle in the comic. Maybe a bit in the second part , but still.
I'm also pretty sure Rocky has a thing for Mrs. M, which also contributes to his dislike of Wick. I may be wrong about that though because it's been a long time since I read the comic.

Fun fact! but freckle (the crazy gun dude) actually has applied to the police academy before but they rejected him due to his... unhinged nature.

@Hannah Burke Believe it or not, Rocky has no hand in Freckle's gun nut side. He definitely influenced Freckle in some aspects but Freckle seems to developed this side of him during the time Rocky was away.
In case you didn't know Lackadaisy is based on a comic series based on the same name, and I heavily recommend anybody who has seen this pilot read the comic itself.

Yes, that was indeed Wick's place. Rocky referred to Wick as Mr. Sable as he walked up stage. It also explains Wick's concern for the dynamite and machinery.

Viktor used to be the Lackadaisy Gang's top muscle... alongside Mordecai. At some point after Atlas' (mysterious) death, Mordecai defected to the rival Marigold Gang (led by Asa Sweet, the guy on the phone with Mordecai). As part of his 'resignation' he put a bullet or two into Viktor's kneecaps, effectively ending Viktor's role as a hatchetman (he has trouble going up and down stairs iirc). As for Viktor's reaction to Freckle dancing with Ivy, she's his goddaughter I think. Her father was part of the gang, so both relationships may be why Mordecai held off on shooting in the end.

Actually they're all 18 and above, oldest being 23 yo Rocky. Still kids in the eyes of other characters but definitely not teenagers

The reason Viktor was so tense when Ivy dragged Freckle over the the stage was because him and Ivy have a father/daughter type bond, and he doesn’t like her going out with boys. The last bit she was dating got both of his arms and legs broken by Viktor. Yeah, he is kind of a psychopath.
Freckle is normally normal. He just goes berserk when he gets a gun in his hands. Unlike his cousin Rocky who is crazy all the time.

Honestly, all the characters are amazing but I gotta say, I loved the opening scene with Rocky. I'm a violinist myself and I have to say, never have I ever seen an indie studio getting the violin playing animated so right! And the audio, goodness the audio! It's so pure and raw! And Rocky himself is the right amount of unhinged!

It was neat because they filmed the guy playing the violin for this for reference.
29:57 Yep, Sable Stone Quarry. The owner of Quarry was enjoying himself at the “Lackadaisy” speakeasy and was a bit confused about Rocky’s comment about “Dynamite & Heavy Machinery”. Then Rocky politely saying “Mr. Sable” says a lot meaning that all the damages that took place were caused by using Wick’s own industrial equipment. The post-credit illustrations near the end shows the aftermath and his shocked face meaning he Wick understands how badly things turned out and that it happened on his company property and best bet is he’s not really happy about it. Not at all.
They play it for a joke after it ends, but Rocky's poem about the Mississippi river in the beginning is geuinely one of the most beautiful intros I've ever heard for an opening and even more impressive that this is a pilot on youtube.

Iron Circus is an indie publisher of some VERY good comics and just recently started the animation branch, founded by a comics author I hope they get more out and more recognition as a company where the passion and love for creating is tops.
Also VIktor is very protective of Ivy, been a while since I read the comics and I haven't read all that are out but IIRC he is a bit of a big brother figure for her, thus his not liking her doing dangerous things, drinking hard liquor, dancing with a fella that starts laughing wildly when shooting tommy guns... etc.
Seemingly every boyfriend she has had is terrified of going near her due to Viktor as “none of them are good”
I don’t think he even knew about freckle’s “episodes”, he just doesn’t like any of her boyfriends just because they are with her.
Im sure its already been said, but yes, this was during Prohibition and the underground bars were called Speakeasys..places where people who hated prohibition, drank illegally
His full name is Mr. Wick Sable and you do know that the place they'd crashed in said Sable right? That was his company they used as their battleground, They basically just trashed his business and that's why we get the ending with wick's expression.
There is a Bibical character named Mordechai in the Book of Esther. He was Esther's guardian and fellow Jew.
Also "Nicodemus" was a Jewish religious leader during the time of Jesus, and "Seraphim" is a Hebrew word for a type of angel.
Definitely makes sense for a lot of names in the 1920's to be inspired by the Bible.
Wick is, indeed, Mr. Sable, Sagewick Sable. There's also a long-running comic, reading it was a delight, step by step it cleared up so many things for me - each time I rewatch the pilot I find myself catching new things in light of what I found out ) It's awesome!

I wrote several papers on prohibition in high school. The bootlegging, the speakeasies, the cars, the music, the fashion... ugh! I love it all. It was the most charismatic crime the country had ever seen. Anyway, the whole country was dry for about a decade starting in 1920. I believe the webcomic this show is adapting starts in 1926.
the amount of detail is insane, the bullet mordecai shot didnt hit freckle directly, either way it would have killed him, the bullet actually ricocheted from the metal next to his head

coffin varnish was slang for super strong liquor that is pretty much paint stripper!

I'd absolutely recommend reading the comic! All of the characters have such intricate stories, and all the questions you have are answered there! It's a beautiful story, and quite hilarious. So many more scenes of Rocky and Freckle being absolute maniacs

Ivy Pepper started working at the Little Daisy Cafe when she was fairly young and Atlas May, who owned both the cafe and speakeasy beneath, adopted her as his goddaughter. When Atlas was killed (under mysterious circumstances - rumors abound that Mitzi was somehow involved), Viktor assumed the mantle of Ivy's godfather. Hence his protectiveness towards her, as well as getting riled at her flirting with Freckle.
Back in the early days, Viktor and Mordecai were partners working for Atlas and Lackadaisy. When Atlas died and Lackadaisy became a ghost of its former glory, Mordecai finally accepted one of the frequent and lucrative employment offers from Marigold (a rival speakeasy). Between having a modicum of a soft spot for Ivy, and being well aware that nothing in the world could protect him from his former partner if he dared harm her, it's easy to see why Mordecai hesitated to pull the trigger when he had her in his sights.
There are a fair number of Lackadaisy animatic shorts on CZcams. One about Wick is called "Dead Duck". One about Viktor is "Tannenbaum". One about Freckly and Ivy is "Milksop". Three about Mordecai start with "Massacre".

And yes, ProZD did some comic dubs before he became the voice of Mordecai.
Mordecai is my favorite, hands down! Check out some of those short shorts. Apparently he and Victor were brother hitmen at one time, and there are some wild moments between the two.

BTW incase you didn't know, this was a webcomic series before it was a animated short, specifically going back to 2006, And is still going on.

Moredecai was not a bad person in the Old Testament. Moredecai was the guardian of Esther.
Moredecai here also as a sister named Esther. He was also an former Lackadaisy employee, Atlas was the founder of the speakeasy and took Moredecai under his wing. The reason he didn't shot Ivy is because Ivy is Atlas's god-daughter, the same reason why Viktor is overprotective of Ivy as well.
The comics would answer a lot of your questions. Starting all the way back in 2006 it's a long read :). One thing I will say is since this was made kind of "for the fans" it assumed a little that people already knew the characters. But perhaps once more episodes come out it'll get around to helping new fans learn who all these lovely people are as well as us older readers

The poem Rocky was reciting at the opening is "Old Man River" but as for the one where he's chucking dynamite like a kid on the fourth of July, I'm not sure on that one.

22:22 for those of you wondering what he meant "coffin varnish" is another name for bootleg liquor. it was also called horse liniment, and tarantula juice. or sometimes just "stuff", which some believe the phrase "that's the good stuff" came from.
its also likely these slangs were made up so the people could talk about ut without raising suspicion in public, since alcohol was banned during this time.

Viktor knows exactly what Ivy had to do because he was an enforcer and runner for the gang before the hit on Atlas when he was injured. It's why he's behind the bar now, too.

I think its a FN M1900. At 15:08 you can see the low boreachses and ejectionport typical of this type of Pistol. Its calliber of .32 acp is a rather small calliber compared with the .45 acp M1911 Mordecai (the black cat with glasses) uses or the .30-06 B.A.R. of Serafine (the female cat with the rifle). I am way to into historical guns by the way. So sorry about that. Have a nice Weekend.

am a lot for bolt actions rifles like, lee enfield ,mousin, t-gewehr, for LMG m1901 benet mercie, s.c.r.g 1915, for pistol, the volcanic , loger, welrod, 1911, shoot guns, Winchester 1897 trench gun, and a other one i don't remember the name, it was a prototype i think, the problem with that semi automatic shotgun it was easy to jam it by the dirt and mud because the reload mechanism was exposed.
Been following Lackadaisy since 2009. Seeing it come to this is effing insane.

Viktor definety sounds like a WW1 veteran who fled Europe and is taking absolutely no shit from anyone.
I really like the Savoy siblings (Seraphine and Nico) as bad guys go. They're just hired muscle, but the their story (with Mordecai dragged along for the ride) is absolutely gorgeously illustrated in the comics. Also as indicated, Mordecai used to work for the Lackadaisy group (he now works for the Marigold gang). When Atlas (Mitzi's husband in the painting) died he left, but Ivy was Atlas' goddaughter and ALSO Mordecai has two younger sisters, so maybe those two things influenced Mordecai's decision there.
Aside from the whole pilot being based off of the webcomic, there are also short side comics which the voice actors actually dubbed! Would be interested to see a reaction to some os those, unless you found them on your own time. Mostly, they are shenanigans between characters that result from Q&A's, but they're super fun!
My favourite... welp, Mordecai has first place for sure, but I think Freckle and Rcoky tie for second. Wick is also fun :)
8:06 or so - Southern Louisiana accent (complete with Creole French!). My parents were from there, when I was a kid (late 1960s) there were people who still spoke like that. One of the sub-plots in this thing is that the Prohibition era in the US lasted from 1920 to 1933. Early on, the illegal booze folks were kind of cool with each other, but as time went on (certainly by 1927) - the available supply was reduced, and they all 'went to war' over it. You were dead on target with your 'mafia' comment. Basically, the bar owners fought with each other more than they fought with the cops. The Lackadaisy speakeasy is struggling to survive against a huge mob effort to shut them down. In the original comics, there's actually one where Asa tries to buy Mitzi out.
As an American, the funniest thing for me was the scene at the bar where they all hated how bad the whisky tasted. My grandma told me about how awful alcoholic beverages were during Prohibition.

The comic is absolutely required reading if you want to understand this pilot at all. Hell they even threw in the cactus in a blink and you miss it scene for fans of the comic. So much is going on that you won't get unless you read the comic first.
I really hope someone picks this up! I'm not sure if it does get picked up whether or not it'll end up being a movie or show but I'm personally leaning more towards a show. Either way I'd watch it

A bit off background: Mordecai used to be part off the Daisy, but left when Atlas died. Victor used to be a muscle, but got crippled and now has to tend the bar.... against his will. He is also very protective off Izy.
But there are also questions I have. Is the animation supposed to be a continuation off the comic or are they seperate.
And what the hell is wrong with Rocky and Freckles. Both off them seem to have manic episodes and I dont know is this is supposed to be related to a human condition or a cat condition.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why you stick that stuff in the very middle of the screen instead of at the bottom, and why you don't waste time fading it in instead of just having all the text there to start with.
Makes it way easier to notice the important stuff.
Not bashing the animation/editing teams, I'd go with style over substance too, but objectively speaking, probably should have done that a little differently.
