Shinji choosing to live, knowing that he will get hurt but that there will be people who love him is just a powerful message and is incredibly beautiful.
I imagine most of them will become un-juiced. Think about it. Shinji and Asuka, two of the most self-loathing and damaged characters in the series decided that they could face the pain of individual existence, so I imagine most of humanity will decide the same thing.
I am not an expert but to keep it simple, in ep 25,26 ikari is given the choice of the Human Intrumentality Project. Will every human become one, or will they stay the same. But it is more a choice for shinji: will he accept himself or not. And so these 2 episodes are an intern monologue where he judges all the characters, trying to understand them. And at the end, he accepts that he is a human, that he will suffer. And this way overcome his depression, and everyone congratulate him at the end. These 2 episodes would be a little sad because there is no explanations at all about what is really happening in the real world, so Gainax made End of Evangelion which tells this part of the story. (Pls Watch it, even if the end is way darker than NGE end) And the combination of these two parts is really really cool. Pls remember, i am a big newbie about Evangelion, there are people who could make thesis about the Ep 25 26 =)
To this day, i think this was one of the only times i ever cried watching a show/movie. This ending was perfect for a show like evangelion and i thought it had a great message about loving yourself and finding who you really are and it really stuck to me as a person, because Shinji, in my opinion showed many of the flaws humans try to hide. This ending and the tips it showed to try make you change, become happier and more confident in yourself in the process. And for that reason alone evangelion has always been my favourite anime
Shinji is shown smiling in End of Evangelion when he's shouting "You betrayed me, you betrayed my feelings!" Definitely wasn't smiling in the moment, but they showed that shot anyway.
I just noticed in evangelion Kaji ,Ritsukos background has no clouds in the sky Shinji also doesnt have clouds at the beginning but his background change when everyone says congratulations and shinji accepted it by saying thank you ( i think that very moment he denied instrumentality) Edit: the lack of clouds i assume represent death and shinji denies instrumentality making him alive

whenever i feel down as a young man who still have a lot ahead of him, i always come back to this video (or even the full episode) to help me set my heart & mind on the right track and remind myself to look up ahead cuz there’s still a future out there waiting for me. congratulations me, things were not always easy but you’ve managed to survive for 21 years ❤️
This is one of my favorite anime endings, mostly because all the background of the series, so much dark and depressive, and watching all the characters saying congratulations to Shinji, was incredible
This ending is the best ending. It breaks and soothes my heart all the same- people say it makes no sense, but i've never felt so satisfied by an ending.
It doesn't make sense tho. The ending still had flaws and felt rushed. I only like it because it connects to End Of Evangelion. It's very lackluster on it's own.
This scene for some reason made me really happy when i was in kid in school now im 20yo adult and still remember this as happiest moment in my life planing to kms in a few months
he wants to live, he will still face the consequences of his actions, he will still be unhappy until he finds happiness, he will still feel pain, but despite all that he wants to fucking live. That's fucking beautiful

If you haven’t watched the show I recommend it highly. Even if anime isn’t your thing I still strongly recommend it. Very accurate depictions of mental illness, and a really thought provoking story. 10/10 and I’m not even a weeb

the anime ending is my favorite ending to any work of art I've seen thus far, and honestly I have found more closure in the last 2 episodes of the show than I've had during many years of medication and therapy and I'm grateful for that
