    I have 3 C100mkii's, all bought second hand, and use them for artist interviews, coverage of art events, coverage of music events (opera, big band, orchestra, soloists and more)...I love the ease of use, reliability, battery life, XLR inputs with good pre-amps and picture quality...file sizes are low for the quality of image produced which makes it good for longer event shooting too...my 3 don't match exactly for colour but are not way out so I have a basic preset (I mostly shoot in WDR) that gets them close...I edit with each camera on a different track so I put the basic preset on the first clip of each track and then can fine tune them to match in that clip and easily copy & paste to the rest of the clips on each track

    You can get around the center auto focus issue with auto lock...just get the focus in the centre and then press auto lock and you can move side to side and it will lock in the focus. Also there is a 709 lut in camera which is better than view assist. go to settings>Video settings>HDMI>lut>rec 709. the lut will display on a HDMI monitor

    Just shot my first wedding with my c100 mark 2 this past weekend. I was nervous at first to go completely handheld during ceremony instead of using my eos R6 on a gimbal but I'm so happy I pushed myself to trust this cameras capabilities to perform. I'm shocked at how this camera can produce ultra sharp footages partnered up with sigma 18-35mm its a dream!

    Actually picking up my 2nd c100 mark II for my corporate work. When I need slowmo b-roll or gimbal work I bust out the 90d. For now I’m personally sticking to 1080 as it’s the most needed in my current market here. However plan to start adding on new cinema cameras by the end of this year and probably begin phasing out the 1080 kits. No rush though. Great vid and thanks!

    I use a c100 ii and an R6. I have had good luck with the Tyler Stahlman clog LUTs for converting my footage into rec709. Also, my c100 tends to have a touch of green tint, I pull a tiny bit of green out of the midtones. That with the clog LUT gets me a great image. Most of my work is indoors with a controlled lighting setup.

    I bought it and got it 2 days ago and I through a sigma 18-35 mm and I was shocked on how it looked right out of the camera and the shot looked amazing. I own a lot of cameras from the 90D all the way to the GH5 mark 2 but never owned a cinema camera and for this being as old as it is I can see myself using this for years to come. I love this camera very easy setup to understand.

      I would probably say the C200 or C70 would be better buys opposed to the C100s. The GH5 would probably be a better fit with the C200 or C70. I’m still pretty much a bum in videography so the C100 MKII serves me well. It just gets the job done with my newbie skill set.

      @@lb7144Ok, is that because of the 4k options? My only reservation with the C200 is having to Cfast. I prefer SD like the c100, but you're right, the c200 has a lot more features

  • @evankolpack
    @evankolpack Před 2 lety +3

    We use a C100 mkii and 2 x BMPCC4K's in my studio. We have people come through with Red's, Arri's, Sony's, BM Ursa's, etc. I'll still take 1080 out of the C100 95% of the time. Not only is quality absolutely dead on PERFECT (if you like an image that has more vibey film quality than pixel perfect sterile) but the file sizes are TINY and super easy to work with.
    If Canon released a C100 mk3 that was able to use the full 4k sensor (yes, this cam has a 4k sensor that downsamples to 1080) so you get a 4k option, and just added a few modern features and modern firmware, it'd be a massive hit! The R5C looks like it could do the job, but the Canon cripple hammer makes it tough to justify.
    The Fuji XH2 might be the next best thing. Fuji are the only other cams I've seen with color science that is on par with the C100. Unfortunately their AF isn't great and a few other things need improving. If the XH2 knocks it out of the park, we may go that route. But I don't think we'll ever sell our C100. It's a damn near perfect camera for video!

    Thanks for the review! I just go mine few weeks ago and it is just awesome. With this workhouse I've to learn how to play without the autofocus, learn how to expose properly. I think it is the best camera to learn quick and fast how everything works in the cinema/video industry. I still have a 90D which is pleasant for most of the work. However I still think that it is important to learn the basics and this beauty is great for that. Thank you very much for your video! Cons and pros have just to be taken in account as you said. ;)

    the colours of your C100s not matching might be something related to black balance, i'm assuming you already tried that but if you didn't, maybe do a quick ABB on both cams :)
    loved the ergonomics when i shot this camera as my day job but the 8bit really shows sometimes when you messed up WB and try to fix it in post. it really does force you to do a WB every now and then (as you should).
    something worth mentioning as well is how decent the c100II handles high ISO, i found that even 3200 was still usable, can't say that about a lot of cams from that era.
    and the BATTERY LIFE! oh my god, all you need for a day of shooting is 2 batteries and 2 SD cards! so good. if only the c70 was housed in that c100 body, i'd marry that thing today.

    Thanks for this. You can use the Canon 35mm f2.8 prime STM with the Mkii’s face detect. Very sharp lens. It won’t transform 2014 AF to match today’s Sony AF, but will allow you to get off center at a great focal length for interviews and other uses that don’t have fast movement. Just be aware it can take a few seconds to lock on to a face that moves into frame after being focused on a background, then it locks on the face pretty good.

So my question is what do you use, why and what is the BEST looking video output, mp4 or avchd? I always use MP4. The main thing that will affect your audio is mic quality and mic placement, not the codec. MP4 is also an easier file to manage. As for picture quality, I doubt you can really tell a difference and neither can the clients. Everyone has always been happy with the quality of the video I provide. I mostly worry about good lighting and good audio.

      @@IndieFilmHub thank you so much, one last thing for picture quality not being to tell the difference do you mean the Mp4 is slightly less quality? the reason I ask is I heard the Mp4 is slightly better video quality but it appears in the menu that they are both using the same mbps unless you shoot 60fps? oh and apparently the mp4 is compressed audio and avchd is uncompressed?

    • @IndieFilmHub
      @IndieFilmHub  Před 2 lety +1

      @@Refusetowalktheline You are right about the audio compression. The video is all 4:2:0 8bit, unless you record externally (and get 4:2:2). The container (AVCHD vs MP4) may change the way it compresses slightly, but I don't see a difference, and I don't know the nitty gritty on each container file. I do know MP4 is more widely accepted.

    can you apply LUTS to this camera as well?

    • @IndieFilmHub
      @IndieFilmHub  Před 2 lety +1

      Luts can be used in post production or viewed while shooting on an external monitor. It does have a visual assist built in for something close to rec.709 but you cannot load your own luts into the camera. At least that I know of.

    • @teamsterling
      @teamsterling Před 2 lety +4

      @@IndieFilmHub Actually, You can load a lut into the C100 M2... Visit Owl Bot here on CZcams. Kenny has the Owl Bot color Lut and shows you how to load it into the C100 M2 and choose it from the CP menu... I have 3 - C100 M2's. They all are loaded with 3 luts I use depending on my shoot. I'm recording 7 hours at a time on each camera... in MP4. When shooting that long, make sure your fan is either on low or high, not automatic. I gage that by the temp I'm shooting in. (low up to 79 degrees and high is above 80 degrees) I use face track AF for my speakers that walk the stage a bit. The tracking is great, I never loose focus (camera is fixed and stage is spiked for on/off camera limits) Just use one of the Canon AF lenses that work with the C100 M2's AF. (EF-S 18-135 USM w PTZ zoom - 24-105 L - 18-80 Cine Servo Zoom - 24-70 L - 70-200 L and a few others. Look at the online manual for description. You might need to run the 2nd firmware update to get all the controls to play nice with the Cine Lenses)
      This camera also does great splitting the audio from an ambient room mic and audio piped in from my rack mixer to blend the live audience with mixed audio. All of this AND I live stream off of one cam to Zoom and record Pro Rez 10 bit 4:2:2 from my ATMOS Blade on the other for corporate to use. Cant beat this setup for corporate gigs and small docs. All 3 of my setups combined cost less then 1 - C70 bare. What to pair this with for a gimbal, stills and some B-Roll? I'm actually looking at the R7... Shoots Clog 3. (very close to the C100's CP7) 120 FPS works with all my EF-S glass and Legacy glass (L-glass) Super lite with good battery life, dual SD cards, 10 bit 4:2:2 AND unlimited shooting time for $1,400.00... (Actually the C100 M2 has an EF-S mode) Some of my other locations bark at the C100 M2 until we shoot outside and they're fumbling with ND's and glass and I'm already setup and shooting with my C100 M2... LOL... Can't beat the built in ND's!
      Cheers for now!

      @@IndieFilmHub thank you I want this camera for many reasons the main reason is as much as I love my a7siii and a7iii !!! Rigging and set-up is a pain in the ass. I sold my c100 for $1000 and I’m really thinking about the Canon c100 Mkii. Just because of the ease and no client at least on my level is asking for 4K. Last question have you used 18-135mm with continuous face detection?

    • @IndieFilmHub
      @IndieFilmHub  Před 2 lety

      For rigging my a7siii, I got the Kondor Blue rig and that has been amazing. I have used the 24-105 but not the 18-135. However, face detection only works with EF-S (crop body) lenses, and is still mostly only in the middle.

    • @IndieFilmHub
      @IndieFilmHub  Před 2 lety +1

      There is a little flex on the main cage part, but that is because I chose not to use the locking screws that go through the eyelets on each side of the camera. With those in it is super sturdy. But even without them, my rig has no problems unless I try to flex it.
