I'm glad you had that same exact rush of emotions I did when I first heard Flying in the Midst of the Storm. It's the opening theme that plays once you finish up the prologues for Wild Arms 3 where you get to see all the characters uniting and how they ended up at the situation you saw just before the prologues. Would highly recommend 3 if you enjoyed the first one.
Really wanted to include the cutscene but couldn't find any videos with JUST that cutscene unfortunately.

Normally I'd say spoilers suck, but that's so beautiful I don't care.

Hi, the artist FKA a bag of dragonite here. I picked Blood, Tears, and the Dried Up Wasteland because it's the most heroic boss theme I've ever heard. I love how it starts off slow. Battles in WA3 start in a way where you are dropped into an arena and you can assess the boss. Players and enemies run around to simulate a combat scenario where there's an actual fight going on, and it all adds to the ambience. Then when the song ramps up, you've got your bearings and the fight starts to make a little sense, you understand what it is you're up against. And by that point, your resolve meets with the foe, and you feel unstoppable as you perform your first volley of gatlings, and then the inevitable boss explosion. It's just a nearly perfect boss theme.

Wild Arms 3 is still very high on my to-play-list ... I actually had wanted to have it as the next game to play but I might be back in a Atelier-fever ... Seeing Virginia again, I also remember that my cousin, who got me into gaming, drew her for me as a gift. It's also the game that had made me want a PS2 because I was staring at it for so long at our video/game rental place. Hn, maybe I will play this first as the next game thanks to this reaction?
I ... wow, I have never heard "Flying in the Midst of The Storm" before, and yeah, yep, I'm in love?? Uh, I might really need to play this game asap. And having you listen to its intro again, I'll never not be happy to have shared the Wild Arms Intro with you and see you have the same reaction like me who has had that track in her life for over 20 years.
I also love the way the Wild Arms games are named, the first one without any subtitle, then 2nd Ignition, Advanced 3rd/3rd Advance, 4th Detonator, and 5th Vanguard - it just has such a certain feeling to it ♥
EDIT: Also, because I also had to go listen to the intro theme again, there IS an official whisle only version! You just need to search for it with "whistle" in the title :D

That motif callback intro gave me giga goosebumps both times, even though I knew it was coming, the choir gives it some crazy power!

I cannot wait for a reaction for the normal and boss themes of Wild Arms 5, those go SO hard

  • @chroipahtz

Blood, Tears, and the Dried-Up Wasteland - normal boss theme, as you guessed.
Flying in the Midst of the Storm - plays early on in the game, very much as a "soundtrack" to a series of events. Won't say much more in case you play the game someday! :)

Whenever I can I listen to these reactions on my home theatre. Just hearing that pro logic processing on the music through my surround setup is just sublime, and this track is no different

As somebody who got introduced to the series as a little kid(I was 8 when I got the first Wild Arms) I can say that the music immediately grabbed me, although I didn't know it at the time. I replayed Wild Arms 2 a bunch in my teens and my love of the OST grew with each playthrough ultimately making me learn Trumpet when I got to high school.
So yeah, the music was Impactful even as a kid when I couldn't puzzle out "why" it was Impactful and stuck with me. Michiko Naruke has also done a handful of Remixed for various smash bros titles and they've all been amazing as well(The version of Bramble blast you listened to was hers as well.)

All of the numbered games except the first had a different japanese subtitle.
    2 was 2nd Ignition
    3 was Advanced 3rd
    4 was 4th Detonator
5 was Fifth Vanguard(or Vth Vanguard? Eh.)
That's what "Advanced 3rd" is from.

If you do ever play 3, do not be afraid to do it in smaller chunks, as the intro animation changes depending on how far your in! If curious, don't be afraid to save, quit to title, and watch and see if anything is added after major events in the game, maybe even do that after your done and just want to relax for a minute

Ah yes, more Wild Arms. The one true WRPG series, especially the 3rd one. Witcher doesn't have cowboys. This series has them.
Wild Arms 1 also has quite a few songs that don't sound like western-themed. Though for Wild Arms 3 they go in even more on the western theme. I'd say the first song is also kinda western, the type I could imagine hearing for a dangerous standoff. Bit weird to hear that boss battle theme before the regular battle theme. The regular battle theme is the most western-sounding battle theme in all of gaming.
Also on a sidenote, Wild Arms 3's main protagonist is the girl. And she's a strong female lead done right. All 4 characters are very important, but Virginia is the leader of the bunch which is why she's front and center. All characters also use guns in this game.

Your speculation before the second song made me giggle. Wild Arms 3 is easily the most yeehaw howdy of the entire bunch, it's still pretty "rpg" but the western vibes are firing off a LOT more.

Each Wild ARMs game is pretty different in nearly every aspect. That's a part of it's odd charm. Just about the only direct link between them is the dying world of Filgaia. Which gets progressively worse with each game. They advance the timeline by a fair bit with each game as well. I think that 3 is like 200 years after 1, if memory serves. It's crazy.

Western themed RPG? Yeah, go 3. It has friggin horse-back gunfights. Saloons and Sheriffs. And the music, of course. And no, they have no direct continuation, but the Setting of a decaying wasteland, Mythology like the Guardians and Demons and Names show up in pretty much every game.
But yeah, that WA1 main theme at the start of Midst of the Storm hits quite nicely, no? If you liked that, you should check out "At the End of the Wilderness (vers. Detonator)" from Wild ARMs 4.

You've done the intro and the boss theme but how in the world has WA3 come up and NOT gotten to Wings? Fate Breaker is also a great one. WA3 is loaded with great music.

While the game is mediocre the music is nice. Wild arms 1 will forever be special, as that was my first. The second was the best in the series.
