1980 Honda CB400 T Hawk - Project Wrap-Up!

- After putting the finishing touches on the 1980 Honda CB400 T Hawk project, it's time to let it go! Since the last update I have polished out the engine cases and valve cover in addition to installing a new set of Dunlop tires. The street bike era we started with. My bro had a 450 Hawk and I had a 450 Nighthawk. Then the jump to 750's, 900's and so on. I still have a 79 CBX and 83 1100f Super Sport.

Nice bike. I was 20 years old and an avid rider already by then. I was riding a 1978 Suzuki GS1000E at the time and a friend of mine bought a Honda 400 just like that as his first bike. It served him well and he let me take it for a ride. I was impressed for a 400 it had plenty of power to ride on the highway without too much difficulty. I'd say it is on the list of perfect first street bikes. 1980, as you know, was the first year for the Suzuki GS1100E and I was dying to get my hands on one but could never make it happen. Over forty years later I have a 1981 GS1100E I found that is unmolested. I finally have the one that got away.

Perfect displacement and year for here in Québec. Here the plates are cheaper below 400cc and only motorcycles from 1980 and before can be antique plated . This CB400 Hawk with its 360 degree twin-cylinder sound therefore leaves the choice of 2 categories to less be stolen by our DMV. The worst scenario is a 450cc from 1980 and above and all Japanese 400 cc models upgraded their displacement at that time, most of them going to 450, the only vestige remaining today is the GS500e.
Fantastic work! I bought the very same model/year last summer. Looking forward to bring it back to prime condition.

Wow, Jon, I'm back...... you tube unsubed me. I finally found you back!~ This is the m/c that I was seriously contemplating buying for my 1st bike. We're speaking of 1980, @ 17 yrs old. Didn't get it, and I'm glad. Instead , Sept of 81, I bought a brand new CX500 C...........

Hola Ricardo! Necesitaría obtener al menos entre $ 6000 y $ 7000 por la GS1100E azul de 1981 si la vendiera. Cada vez es más difícil encontrarlos, especialmente en buenas condiciones. ¡Salud!

@@jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538 Hey Jon, I guess I was just curious about what bikes that I have seen on your channel and what might still be in your garage. For instance, what you may have sold locally that you may not advertise on the channel. Unfortunately, I can't really say that I'm truly "interested" because I couldn't justify the purchase at this point in time. (I have priority things hanging over my head, such as much needed home improvement and planned remodeling projects) ...just got a new roof to start... For me to start the conversation with the "Ole lady" about getting another bike after spending $6k on my KLR 6 months ago wouldn't be good. 😀
Truth be told, I would absolutely love to have the XS...I would worship it! It would be really something to have my first streetbike again.
...how about squeezing it out of the way in the corner until next year and sell some other stuff? 🤣
