B) It's a temporal paradox.
Maybe Golden Goomba got hit after invading Pacman, so he lost his golden mushroom?
I think they're going to betray the current Gold Goomba and rebel against him (maybe even causing the current Goldie to join Bowser/Mario)

The way you guys animated the battle against Chief Goomba was absolutely beautiful. The way the headlamps shut down, the lights grow an eerie red as the Chief uses a Fire Flower, all to the beat of delicious music!
