- My three favorite Kings (and Queen) of Belgium: King Albert I, King Baudouin I with his wife Queen Fabiola and King Leopold III.
La Brabançonne is the National anthem of the Kingdom of Belgium. It is sung in the Kingdoms three official languages: French, Flemish and German.
I put Leopold III while it was sung in Flemish because I consider him to be a symbol of Flemish Royalism.
"In 1946, a commission of inquiry exonerated Leopold of treason. Nonetheless, controversy concerning his loyalty continued, and in 1950, a referendum was held about his future. Fifty-seven per cent of the voters favoured his return. The divide between Leopoldists and anti-Leopoldists ran along the lines of socialists and Walloons who were mostly opposed (42% favourable votes in Wallonia) and Christian Democrats and Flemish who were more in favour of the King (70% favourable votes in Flanders)." - Wikipedia

This is the French Version at the beginning and Dutch at the end since Belgium has two regions. One speaks Dutch, another speaks French and this is French. The regions are called Wallonia and Flanders.

Well, considering my dad's Canadian French heritage, and my mother's Rheinlander German heritage, Belgium seems like the only country that makes sense to identify with to keep me from being too embattled with myself. Seems like an okay compromise country between the two. Switzerland's more about Austrian/Bavarian background than Rheinlander, not to mention that the French of Switzerland, well, might be more the southern parts of "La Patrie" of sorts.
The Flemish don't speak German. Luxembourg could be a better compromise.

It was originally a republican anthem pointing against the house of Orange.
But if there is a legitimate house to rule Belgium: ORLEANS.
NimbleFeeble that idea was rejected by the national council. They chose the more "neutral" German prince Leopold Saxen-Coburg Gotha instead of a french royal, or pince william of Orange. King Leopold I did marry a french princess though

Sorry to tell you but Flemish isn't an official language, it's a dialect of Dutch. So technically it's French, Dutch and German and not French, Flemish and German
