Interesting comparison
Now, finally, that's a good, complete and correct comparison. 73 from The Netherlands
Great comparison!
An interesting comparison and it looks pretty fairly done but I'm no expert. The manufactured antenna are better, as expected but how much you want to pay for the extra performance will depend on your individual circumstances I guess.
Do do do just passing through looking for SOTA antenna ideas.
Currently running a 1/2 telescopic whip thing on a HT at 5W, but looking for something I can hoist up on a pole easily on top of a mountain. The only issue with 1/4 ground planes is that for optimal packing-away the radials need to be bent vertical and then bent back to operate, nice if you can find a little hinge or something with known positions, but otherwise hard to carry in a backpack and hard to tune. So I really think a vertical EF HW or dipole is going to be better.
I am in a ground floor flat in the middle of the city so no amount of upgrading an antenna is going to fix that, I just go to a nearby hill to operate on a nice day :)
Still, enjoyed the tests!
Slim Jim looking really good for convenience vs performance
