This is How Much SCHD You Need to Retire (And How Soon)

  • In this video, I’m going to show you how much you need in order to retire off SCHD and also how soon you'll be able to retire. SCHD is currently one of the most popular dividend-growth ETFs among investors, for several really good reasons. It currently offers the highest dividend yield among many of the most popular dividend-growth ETFs that exist. And if you happen to be interested, I recently did a video where I compared the most popular dividend ETFs to each other, looking at a bunch of different metrics, including dividend growth, diversification, overall returns, and so on:
    • Which Dividend Growth ...
But in this video, we’re going to see how quickly someone would be able to retire from their job and live solely off the dividend distributions of SCHD. For this video, we’re going to make a couple of assumptions. First, we’re going to assume that SCHD is the only investment you have in your portfolio. Now, because this is a diversified ETF, if someone wanted to only invest in SCHD, then I really wouldn’t see much of an issue with that. I always advocate for having multiple investments in your portfolio, but SCHD currently holds 104 different dividend-paying stocks. So if SCHD were the only thing someone wanted to hold, then that would be sufficient, in my opinion. Second, we’re going to assume that you’ll want to make $100,000 a year in dividends. I know that sounds like a lot of money, and if you want to aim to live off less, then that’s great. But as we’ll see, depending on the number of years in the future, a hundred grand might not be as well off as you’d likely be now.

I feel investors should be focusing on under-the-radar stocks, and considering the current rollercoaster nature of the stock market, Because 35% of my $270k portfolio comprises of plummeting stocks which were once revered and i don't know where to go here out of devastation.

Safest approach i feel to tackle it is to diversify investments. By spreading investments across different asset classes, like bonds, real estate, and international stocks, they can reduce the impact of a market meltdown

Consequently, for the past seven years, I have enlisted the services of a fiduciary who actively manages my portfolio to adapt to the current market conditions. This strategy has allowed me to navigate the financial landscape successfully, making informed decisions on when to buy and sell. Perhaps you should consider a similar approach.

Thankfully, I can attest to the success of this approach aided by professional guidance seeing my portfolio of $330k grow by 29% this year alone... maybe you should do the same.

My investment manager John Desmond Heppolette, is really strict on discretion, anyway i digress. You can't expect to make a million from a thousand dollar investment that's where most people get it wrong, It's not a lottery!! Make realistic investments!! People say it's good to be greedy while investing. Yes, i agree but there's a difference between being greedy and being delusional haha. For example last year I invested about $80k in dividends growth stocks and made about $246k, but guess what? I put it all back and traded with him again and now I'm rounding up to millions.

Passive growth is good for people like myself who are retiring and want monthly and quarterly income for bills. Diversification is key….high interest money markets, crypto, high growth tech stocks and high interest passive equities is how I’ve been investing and have done very well with this strategy.

If Schwab goes BK...SCHD-These funds are set up as trusts or in a similar manner. If the investment adviser goes bankrupt, they have no access to the assets in the fund, which are held by an unaffiliated custodian. If the sponsor liquidates the fund, you'd get cash for your shares. But this only happens with small, unsuccessful funds, which doesn't describe SCHD........Short version they sell everything and you get cashed out.
      Long version from investopedia
Shareholders typically receive notification of the liquidation between a week and a month before it occurs, depending on the circumstances. The board of directors, or trustees of the ETF, will approve that each share is individually redeemable upon liquidation since they are not redeemable while the ETF is still operating; they are redeemable in creation units.
Investors who want "out" of the fund upon notice of the liquidation sell their shares; the market maker will buy the shares and the shares will be redeemed. The remaining shareholders would receive their money, most likely in the form of a check, for whatever amount was held in the ETF. The amount of the liquidation distribution is based on the net asset value (NAV) of the ETF.
The liquidation, however, can create a tax event, if the funds are held in a taxable account. This may force an investor to pay capital gains taxes on any profits received that would have otherwise been avoided.

If you multiply the 1/2 million by .041, which is the dividend rate, you get a mere $22,000, which will be roughly equal to $5,000 in today's money. You won't even be able to buy a house with that much money (1/2 million) anywhere in the US in 30 years. You won't even be able to pay the rent with that distribution. i could spend another hour texting, but if you do the math, it will become obvious.

Marina Carolina Nice is the licensed fiduciary I use. Just research the name. You’d find necessary details to work with a correspondence to set up an appointment..

Stocks extended their year-to-date rally following the CPI report, with the S&P 500 last up 0.8% in afternoon trading. but I don't know if stocks will quickly rebound, continue to pull back or move sideways for a few weeks, or if conditions will rapidly deteriorate.I am under pressure to grow my reserve of $250k.

It's really hard to beat the market as a mere investor. It's just better if you invest with the help of a professional understands the market dynamics better.

Very true, people downplay advisors role, until burnt by their mistakes. I remember just after my layoff early 2020 amidst covid outbreak, I needed to stay afloat, hence researched for license advisors. Thankfully, I came across someone of practical knowledge, and decades of experience, my stagnant reserve of $325K has yielded nearly $1m after subsequent investments so far.
