Tristate Tollway - Interstate 294 - Chicago Tollways

- Drivelapse video of Interstate 294 starting on Interstate 65 in northwest Indiana and then heading northerly to the Borman Expressway (Interstate 80/94) and heading west. The Tri-State Tollway starts as I-94 departs to the north towards Chicago, and continues northwesterly beyond the split with Interstate 80. The video follows the entire length of the Tri-State Tollway until I-94 rejoins the Highway at the Edens Spur.
The Tri-State Tollway is Illinois's busiest tollway. The I-94 portion of it is entirely in Lake County, IL bypassing the county seat, Waukegan, IL while I-294 is entirely in Cook County, IL, even though there's a portion where it runs along the county line with DuPage County, IL.
The Tollways are awesome at night. Everyone is rocking and rolling on a Saturday night. All sorts of hot cars too.
The Tri State Tollway actually goes all the way up to near the Wisconsin border (Exit 1, Russell Road exit).
That's because the Tri-State Tollway plays a significant role as a tolled bypass within Illinois. Remember, the I-94 portion is entirely in Lake County, IL bypassing the county seat, Waukegan while I-294 is enitrely in Cook County, IL bypassing the county seat, Chicago and links O'Hare Int'l Airport.

Great drive! It would be great if Highway 407 in Ontario would accept E-ZPass because transponder itself has high monthly/annual fee while some, if not most E-ZPass states don't have monthly fees. This would be beneficial for people coming from New York State since it is member of E-ZPass.

Personally, I'm only less than 2 weeks before High school ends for me. Definitely crazy how time flies! Also i've heard that hwy 413's construction is going to start by next year. What do you think about it?
If the government start's a construction project for the 413, it will probably only be a single advanced bridge, or some advanced clearing or something. It will probably be a pretty small scale project, the highway still hasn't gone through detail design, so it's really not shovel ready yet.

One of the most awful stretches of freeway known to humankind. Probably because I grew up being stuck in traffic on it. Living in Milwaukee, I will gladly drive out of my way and take I-43 / I-39 as a massive Chicago bypass to avoid it. Or I'll take the ferry across Lake Michigan. I hope you had a reason to drive this portion of freeway and didn't just do it for this video. You seriously found the least busy moment in the history of 294 and that god-forsaken 94/80 merged freeway segment!
Hard disagree here, the tri-state tollway is one of the most efficient highways in Chicagoland in my opinion. I hope to see relief in the central area between 88-290 and 90 though, with the new I-490 tollway coming 2026, it should provide great relief.
From a design standpoint, the low amount of exits compared to other highways is really smart. I would hope to see it one day get the I-4 treatment to separate travelers. The Illinois Tollway is great about being transparent with their projects and yes while it has its flaws for sure, what American inner city expressway/tollway doesn’t get backed up?
