Approach it like a business, not like an artist. You're starting a business. What skill sets do you need, what's the job description, what's the pay rate, etc. Then search for quality people who can do the job.

Here are my thoughts on building a team around you. This is from what I have seen in my artist friends experiences and my own personal experiences.
    1. Don't beg for people's help without knowing how you want to go about things. Having a vision is incredibly important and you shouldn't put too much of that in the hands of others because it should be your dream. Take any critiques from them though.
    2. Be authentic! Too many times people try to sell you on their dream, but they have no interest in what you are doing personally. If you help the people you want on your team get to their dreams, then they will gladly join you most of the time.
    3. Most of the work should be done on your own and only go to your team with specific questions on what you need specific help on. If you run to them with every problem under the sun and you have done no work to try to figure it out, people will quickly walk away and ghost you.
    4. Learn more skills. You need to understand what everyone on your team does so that you can also empathize with them when things go wrong. Need someone to help you build a website, learn what it takes to build one, and when things go wrong in them building a website for you, you can come from their a place of understanding and that will put them at ease. They will work harder for you too because you took the extra step to know what they are going through.
    5. Celebrate your teammates when they do good shit. Be real with them when they don't but be encouraging! When they do anything for you big or small, thank them. Very rarely do people actually receive gratitude from the things they do best. But, when they do, they see the reason they started doing what they were doing again and chase it even harder.
    6. Be patient. Most artists take years to reach the place they dreamed about and there will still be more to do. Don't rush your teammates unless you know of opportunities that you can grab that day or the next. This piggy backs on learning more skills because you also learn how long it takes to get things done and this will help you be more patient and encourage your teammates.
    7. Always know the direction your heading or fake it like you do. The worst thing for you to do as a leader is to show fear of not knowing where to go. You should follow your gut and research as much as you can. When you run into a time you don't know what to do, brainstorm and try something quickly. Do not be idle for too long or you will lose the team's faith in moving forward. Momentum is huge. Use it wisely.
    8. Be honest. Ask for help when you need it. Talk to your team about things you are struggling with and get them to talk about theirs. Become closer and they will do even more for you. As long as everyone is moving forwards towards their dreams or make sure they have chosen your dream to be theirs. As long as everyone believes they are moving forward as a team and individually, you all will be good.
    9. Understand empathy and learn how to be more empathetic. People that have no idea about this will struggle the most. You need to know how to hear when someone is off and try to bring them back on the right track as quickly as possible. The longer you let the people around you bottle things up, the more that can will explode down the road and possibly end your whole career.
    Most importantly.
    10. Have fucking fun guys. It should be a rollercoaster. You will win and lose as a team, but always pull through together! Make great music that comes from the heart. Go on adventures based on a whim sometimes. The more memories you all make together the better!
Everyone''s journey is going to be different, but enjoy it! Hope this helps someone. This was a long ass comment haha

Build slowly and at your pace. Most of the people who think like the majors WITHOUT the majors money will go bust. Do your research. So many indies think they are the majors and start expanding and expanding and then run into money problems and voila go bust. Not many indie labels can survive with more than 2 or 3 people in the label and when they get delusions of grandeur they hire more people and run out of money and go bust or get swallowed up by the majors and disappear into oblivion. Don't make that mistake. Run with yourself and contract people on a needs only basis and short term only. But personally I prefer to do it myself. Artists need to grow up and run their own business and stop needing other people all the time. Good luck my friend.

The best way to start building your team is by connecting with other artists in theses comments who are also looking to build a team and see how you can be beneficial to them. KEY POINTS: Make sure your vision is easily understood, Do royalty splits and give credit to everyone involved in making your song, don't be afraid of rejection, don't look at others as your competition. Only compete with yourself.Be a team player. Keep good communication, let your team know how important they are, remember some people will be direct team members ex. Producer, videographer. and some be indirect team members. Ex. Fans who share your music.
