Buakaw has fought a total of 54 fights under Kickboxing rules and his real record is 52-2 under Kickboxing rules ( only really losing to Masato in the rematch and to Sato in the third fight ).
Buakaw is the best Kickboxer ever when it comes to accomplishment and record.
      He should have won the K-1 Max title 4 times ( 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2014 ) and might have won a fifth one ( 2009 ).
Petrosyan two K-1 Max titles wins were illegitimate ( might have lost in the final to Buakaw in 2009 and should have lost to Mike Zambidis in 2010 ).
Andy Souwer only won the K-1 Max title in 2007, his win in 2005 was a robbery against Buakaw.
Masato won the K-1 Max title in 2003 and 2008 were illegitimate, his win in 2003 was because of a robbery against Zambidis and in 2008 was also illegitimate because he should have lost to both Sato and Kyshenko.

All across the internet Ramon is praised as one of the best farangs and many say he is considered the best. You must be smoking saying he’s not even in the farang top 10 :)
We all know that (a) Ramon got robbed many times in Thailand and (b) he fought a bit too much (injuries) and too long. Hence the record is not so clean on paper 236 fights, 186 wins, 95 KO.

    • @samjohnsonkb
      @samjohnsonkb Před 3 lety +3

@@tommiel6740 You are correct that I was exaggerating about him not being in the top ten farang. I smoke good stuff haha, but I am sometimes a bit too critical of him and concede that he is one of the best farang Muay Thai fighters. That being said, what makes him stand out from other top tier farang? Fabio Pinca, Toshio Fujiwara, Ivan Hippolyte, Youssef Boughanem, Rayen Simson, Rafi Bohic, John Wayne Parr, etc. all have made similar or bigger impacts in the Muay Thai / Kickboxing world as far as their respective physical peak and fight record, and it is rare to see them pop up as often as Ramon when searching for legendary farang fighters. Above all of this, Dany Bill has been slighted endlessly in this regard. He was significantly more athletic and technical than Dekkers, as well as having a better resume. Bill is by far the best farang to compete in Muay Thai.
I disagree that Ramon was frequently robbed. I have watched a lot of footage of his fights against Thais, and him having a 13-21 record against them is justified imo. In fact I have seen Dekkers gifted decisions more often than robbed, for example his win against Sangtiennoi is completely off to me. Unless you would like to bring up a specific fight or fights where he was robbed, I think we can agree to disagree there. And yes, we was plagued by injuries, especially inflammation in his legs that he ignored because he wanted to keep fighting (which does make me respect him a lot) but no one enters the ring at 100% and it is ultimately the fighter's decision to put it on the line. To conclude, his wins against Namphon and Coban are probably some of the highest profile victories a foreigner has achieved in the sport (barring Dany Bill's career) and that definitely gives him a significant amount of credit, but looking at his whole career, I don't see much that elevates him above other farang legends to the point of being the GOAT of foreigners. His impact on the sport is much more significant than his in-ring performances imo.

Nicely put the arguments forward, I have to admit. Well done. Personally, I would have gone with the one and only Mr Perfect. Ernesto Hoost changed the heavyweight game entirely. His combination of kick and punch, his totally difgerent style of leg blocking plus the fact that he wasn't one of the heavier and bigger fighters in an aera of pumped up droids but still was able to be the first to win 4 K1 titles makes Ernesto Hoost the prefect candidate to be The GOAT of Kickboxing. Just my 2 cents ofc.

When I remember old K1 tournaments, the name that always comes to my mind is Glaube Feitosa. I always thought how underrated he is. What are your thoughts of this K.O. artist, a Kyokushinkai legend? I remember his matches were among the most exciting ones for me. The way he K.O.ed Musashi... Musashi literally became a TV kids show host after that 😬 Only the height saved Semmy Schilt from Glaube's question mark kick K.O. There are also Hug, Hoost, Kaoklai (his legendary K.O. of Mighty Mo), Hunt, LeBaner, Sefo, Saki, Fairtex, CroCop, Aerts, Bonjasky, Zambidis, Serkan Yilmaz... I loved K1 so much! I like Badr but he is giving his ego and emotions too much space in my opinion. That lost vs Rico was very unpleasant to watch for me. He was dominating until he decided to underestimate the opponent offensively throwing spinning back kick. If you kick a heavy bag with this kick and keep you foot straight, once the heel connects it's very likely your tendon will be heavily impacted and probably hurt. I am sorry but I have to consider that a bad technique and the only reason he did it is for a show off and have his NEW spinning back kick highlight. He thought he had it in a bag and failed as his ego took over. I think fighters must control the emotions and keep it respectful. Saenchai is a 🐐 mostly because of his attitude, his godlike power to controll his emotions and setting energy levels in a fights to his advantage. Badr is sometimes an opposite of that. Great heart, amazing fighter and very possible him being a bad boy is why people love him so much. But a kickboxing 🐐? Petrosyan all the way! ✊

Good list of contenders, I would just change the names of Tenshin and Hari for Hoost and Bonjasky, these guys together have 7 k-1 titles, this is a solid argument to put both on that list.
By reducing the conversation to just two names, I would be between Hoost and Petro.
The first was the first fighter to win 4 k-1 WGP, beating many of the greats of that time, in addition to being extremely technical, so he was the "Mr Perfect".
Petrosyan defeated all the greats who put in front of him, and in a dominant way; was one of four fighters to win the K-1 Max twice, and doing it consecutively; won other important belts, such as One, Glory and Bellator Kickboxing and is probably one of the most technical kickboxers in history, his attack and defense are in the state of art, maybe his only "fault" is not being knockout machine like the others from that list.
In short, I can't choose one of these two, comparing eras is difficult, it would be like comparing Pelé and Messi, each one was a giant in his time. Congratulations for the video and humility.

YES PETROSYAN is a superb technician and counter fighter.... he does has holes in his game however... the way to beat Georgio is to draw him into attacking and countering him... because he is a counter fighter he wants to wait as well as he is very tight defensively.. so the way you have fight this guy is to put a little pressure in order for him to try to counter then counter his counter.. It's seems easier said than done however it is very possible.. with a fighter like him you cannot attack or counter him straight on... you must create angles so that he cannot counter as easily. Also you need to force his card to attack... so that you may counter his attack. And one last thing you have to break his rhythmn he has a particular rhythnn and constant pressure is the best way to break it as he likes to have room to move and he needs range in order to execute his great strikes.

could be.. the guy was a p4p fighter by definition.. moved up I dunno how many weightclasses....like 4 perhaps.. and kicked ass in all.. start meeting his match as a small heavyweight fresh in k1. but he had quite a bit misfortune...accident with a motorcycle, ruptured something which set him back in HW and of course famously broke his leg ... Really too bad cause at that moment, after the collapse of K1 and the old guard out, the monsters like Schilt and overeem gone the HW division in glory was there for the taking for him. Always makes me a bit sad that he never came back to Kickboxing after the leg break. (Wento boxing, bit of mma, helping at american mma camps, living the good life though.)
But yeah perfect style, almost perfect fighter.. probably the pinnacle of what came out of the dutch gyms if it all wouldve went well..

Hey Gabriel, there was another legend who won K1 x4 besides Schilt. Mr. Perfect, Ernesto Hoost. Used to KO people by checking kicks! I'd say top 3 heavyweight of all time. What do you think?
