I too work at Home Depot in the paint department, after 35 years as a painting contractor. Behr paints tend to get "dist'ed" by the Pros, but of those i have used on my own home, I have never been disappointed. The Dynasty and Marquee really do cover in one coat when using the sanctioned One Coat Palette of colors. The one caveat I do give my customers is that you must be going over a well sealed wall to avoid problems with streaking and flashing. It is not the paint to use if you just bought a new house and are going over that "contractor's grade" paint . Here I would suggest priming first with a quality primer/sealer and not just a PVA. I can tell yo that I have many contractors being converted over to the Behr line of paints. Personally, I feel that Behr's Ultra has the biggest bang for the buck. It is a really good paint at a moderate price. And, if you have Ultra mixed into the Dynasty one coat colors, it covers extremely well, if not guaranteed to make it i one coat.@@Idahopainter

Another note is that each color card will have a notation on the top left of the card that will tell you bonus effects when that color is made in specific product lines. Great review. I found I had to slow down and not overwork the paint when rolling with dynasty. FYI, I have had multiple clients lose picture frames/glass when trying to hang smaller things with command strips. Whatever makes the paint durable does not allow it to stick to the surface. One client was a stager who does it all the time so as not to put holes in walls. My Behr reps have been notified and now I ask clients if they plan to use that style of hangers.

5:55 " Crooked ceiling line so I decided to take it up on the ceiling" As a veteran painter I understand exactly. You should do a video on that explaining. Biggest problem with home painters that are afraid for the paint to touch the ceiling. I paint a lot of old apartment rentals with bumpy walls and ceilings. I often paint the wall color all along a ceiling area actually on the ceiling by like 1/16 of an inch. Best way to give the appearance of a straight line. Rememeber no one will see this close up. It just needs to look like a straight line and it will even if you paint a part of the actual ceiling. Dynasty is my go to paint for kitchen cabinets. Drys very fast...covers well and durable. Sometimes Iadd a touch of Floetrol.

I find some of their paint pretty good, but others awful. But they have come a long way in the last 40 years. Is it spread-rate that you dislike about thick paints?

    • @nejdro1

I’ve used dynasty behr marquee and behr ultra and I just love the behr ultra. In my experience the marquee is fun to work with, but I love the matte finish. The dynasty I gotta work a lil more with it, but from using it I love the finish of it drys kinda fast so can’t really sit with it gotta go to work. The marquee and dynasty are only one coat with certain colors from behr. it won’t be a one coat if u get any other brand tinted in there like Ben Moore or sherwin Williams. The behr ultra has been the easiest for me to work with doesn’t dry as fast as marquee so u have a lil more work time and the scuff defense on it, is sexy. I love your channel I’ve learned so much from it so thanks man keep it the great work.

I recently used SW interior super paint in satin. Didn’t cover in 2 coats. They offered emerald at the price of super paint. That also didn’t cover in two. The consistency of the emerald was that of their multi purpose primer. Not exaggerating. I then got Behr ultra scuff defense. Same color. Covered beautifully in 2 coats for half the price of emerald. Didn’t stick around the kick the walls but I have scuff in my bathroom and everything wipes right off with a wet rag.
The kicker about the SW debacle is that when I told them the emerald didn’t cover, they made any and every excuse that it was my doing and not the paint. They insisted I used the wrong nap roller (used the same roller for the Behr) .. I showed the manager photos of a wall with two emerald coats that hadn’t covered. He said “oh it’s hard to tell by pictures”. Mind your the home I was working in was a 5 minute drive from their store. I asked him to send a rep to come look at it. He never came of course.
Any time I have an issue with SW they never return my call.
My Behr rep is very helpful and knowledgeable. He was a paint contractor for 30 years before he joined behr (he’s bored).
I often hear painters dogging Behr because it’s “Home Depot a big box store”
Well, sorry fellas but SW is big box as well and tons of diyers and homeowners use them because THEYRE THE BEST!
Behr is owned by Kilz and they’re got an amazing team formulating their products.
I will never use anything but ultra scuff on interior walls again. One coat is nice but I personally think the substrate needs that thickness of two coats to last.
Thanks for listening. Have a good day sir.

Used exact color and sheen in a NC house in winter and it was impossible to roll out on 8' wall. I couldn't even roll one row with a 3/8 DOOZ. Switched to 1/2 and still can barely get on wall. Also it dries so fast that you get junk in pan from drying. Ion FL it rolled exactly as shown in NC you cant roll it out. Used a prime first coat that took forever.

Buyer BEWARE. Based on this video, I decided to use Dynasty Matte on the walls of a bedroom. I'm barely recovered from the first coat nightmare. I have been a longtime fan of Behr's Ultra Pure White, so I was really looking forward to a stellar experience. THIS PAINT DRIES TOO DAMN FAST! I'm furious, because it was impossible to maintain a wet edge. My walls are only 8 feet high, so we're not talking cathedral ceilings. By the time I finished one row, the top edge along the ceiling was already dry. If I dared go over the edge of what I had already painted, I got a paint texture that I did not want. I HATE when that happens. I hate lap marks and paint stipple. I want SMOOTH walls. I was well prepared for everything when I began. I had my paint pan covered with a wet work rag, to keep all the paint in the pan moist. I had a wet rag to wrap the brushes and rollers when not in use. The outer edges of my hand brushes still ended up with dry paint, even while wrapped in wet rags. I've never had that happen before. I managed to get the dry paint off my brushes, but I had to sit at the sink with them for about 20 minutes, scrubbing and scraping the bristles. I'm not pleased with the matte finish. IMO, it has too much sheen. You can see the window's reflection in the ceiling. In order to smooth out the texture, I'm going to have to sand the first coat and apply a second. The can says not to thin, but I'm going to try adding an extender, just to see if I have better luck with second coat. I'm really furious. At $60 a gallon, I expected more attention to quality results. I hate that paint companies are catering to speed demons. I get that time is money, but, IMO, quality trumps an extra 15 minutes. (FYI, I come from a painting contractor family, and this job was done yesterday in East Coast Winter. We're not talking about warm weather heat conditions.)

@@Idahopainter I'm tempted to call Behr tomorrow to complain. In 30+ years, I've never worked with such a fast drying paint. I'm grateful Home Depot took the can back (55% full) and refunded the charge. We re-sanded the ceiling and one feature wall today in bright daylight. Even sanded, the surface has an eggshell sheen. How can they call this paint matte? The lap marks between rows were ridiculous. Luckily, the paint dunes sanded down with aggressive arm work. I probably should have used the electric sander. (I may do that tomorrow.) We also noticed some orange peel texture in certain areas, probably dried stippling. My feature wall was near perfect before we applied the Dynasty. The surface was smooth as glass, primed with 3 coats of BM oil-based primer, each coat sanded to perfection. Then we started to read other reviews of Dynasty from other sources. Way too many users were experiencing the same things we experienced. Who knew? Still furious.

I find it's amazing how much I miss albeit hairline misses on cutting in with my first coat. Out of my own operator error I always do two. Most people who are excited about one coat are very cheap people not looking for a good job that can't paint to begin with.
