  • In this episode, we're going on a 3-hour "mud flat hike" across the ocean floor during low tide to walk to the German island of Baltrum. The Wadden Sea National Park (Wattenmeer) has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2009. During our Germany vacation to the North Sea, we also embark on a traditional German fishing boat ("fish cutter") and see harbor seals! We then visit the islands of Baltrum and Spiekeroog where we explore the islands' interiors and typical German beaches, and their adorable beach baskets (Strandkorb).
    Thank you for joining us and see you on our next adventure!

    Nice seeing the northern sea again.
    Haven't been there for years and I could feel the Watt and the sand.
    Northsea has a kind of beach that is something special to me.

    First I'd like to say great vid! Secondly, I can't help but notice how clean your guys' accent sounds when speaking English. The woman sounds American and the man sounds like he has an English hybrid accent! And I say that without intending to cause offense. It's remarkable how you keep the accent of your mother tongue (German I presume?) from bleeding through when you speak English. As someone who loves learning languages I always try to imitate the accents of the language I'm using out of respect for another's culture. Bravo!

    • @FernwehChronicles
      @FernwehChronicles  Před 3 lety +2

      Thank you! And thanks for the compliment on language. I (Georg) left Germany when I was 19 years old and it was definitely a struggle at first. But after 16 years out and about in the world my accent has morphed a few times over, but my wife won’t let me sound American even though that’s where we live. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Now I just sound like a watered down Aussi, Brit, South African or German depending on what side of the bed I got up on... 😂🤦🏼‍♂️😭 You said you like to learn languages? Where are you from?

    • @josholiveros3713
      @josholiveros3713 Před 3 lety

      @@FernwehChronicles That's funny 'cuz I mistook her for American hahaha. I'm a Filipino from the US, now living in the Philippines since 2012. I learned French in middle school (12-14 years old). Now I'm relearning and expanding my knowledge of the French language. I'm also learning the language of my heritage. So other than English I'm somewhat proficient in Filipino and French. I studied Spanish and Portuguese for a bit and will resume after I've conquered French and Filipino.

    • @FernwehChronicles
      @FernwehChronicles  Před 3 lety +1

      Wow! That’s really impressive! Well, keep it up! 👍🏻 I’m sure you’re aware of this but it’s by far the easiest to learn a new language when submersing yourself in it fully. 🤷🏼‍♂️ And yes, Tara my wife is in fact American. ✌🏻

    Hoho het grootste gedeelte van de wattenmeer ligt gewoon in Nederland de Waddenzee, hier kan je na vier eilanden lopen en van eiland na eiland. En als je geluk heb kan je de oefeningen van het korps mariniers zien.

      Thank you! ❤️ We rented a car and drove all over the country, and Hamburg is very near by. As for the tour, they have local companies organize these walking trips, just ask for mud hikes when you get there and people will point you in the right direction. Have fun! 🙌🏻

    What exactly is so curious about Germany having islands??

    • @FernwehChronicles
      @FernwehChronicles  Před 4 lety +3

      Good question! Whenever I’d mention to people, especially here in the US, that I used to vacation on the islands in Germany, people would be rather perplexed by the idea of there being islands 🏝 in Germany. It’s just something that’s not necessarily on people’s radar, unless you’re from that part of the world. 👍🏻
