The first song ever composed and dedicated to Ipoh's very own "Kallumalai Murugan" has made history among Malaysian Indians and the due credit goes to Smt. Yamuna Aarumugam, a renowned Carnatic vocalist and Director of "Sapthaswara Sangeethalaya" Academy of Fine Arts, Malaysia. Yamuna practically grew up embracing the lotus feet, love, divinity and blessings of "Kallumalai Murugan".
During the pandemic period in 2021, it was painful experiencing the cancellation of Thaipusam for the first time in Yamuna's life. Feeling totally devastated, she felt that words would be inadequate to describe the agony and disappointment experienced by every Hindu of Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia including herself. Therefore, Yamuna picked up a pen and paper to pour out her feelings by starting to compose the lyrics and music shedding tears of disappointment for not being able to see Lord Murugan for the first time in her life in the year 2021.
Each word of 'Kallumalai Deivam" describes the love, bonding and the most awaited annual Thaipusam anxiously by every Hindu of Ipoh. All Ipohrians await being excitedly longing for the annual Thaipusam Festival celebration.
The lyrics and tune was submitted to F.M. Kanna for the music arrangement. The recording was successfully done with Yamuna and her beloved daughter Aiswaryiaa Lakshmi Deven. Yamuna wasn't satisfied with only music. Her burning desire and dream was to make a video album glorifying the beauty of Kallumalai Murugan and whole seriously in search for the right person to come by. After a long struggle and search, prayers were answered when Mr. Venumurali along with Mr. Jeya Sarkunan, Mr. Vijay Ananth, Mr. Yukes Kumar and Mr. Umaganthan volunteered to help make dream into reality. They were totally down to earth and willing to go all out to make this album a huge success.
The little Murugan, darling Shivendra Naidu came by enrolling himself as a student at the right time at "Sapthaswara Sangeethalaya" Academy of Fine Arts and became very attached to Yamuna and her family, her instinct kept telling her that he was the most suitable person for the Murugan role. With the guidance, support and inspiration of the Kallumalai Temple Committee and president, a truly very successful video shoot was conducted at the temple. We also extend our gratitude to the bharathanatyam guru, Smt. Ushanandhini Krishnasamy for her beautiful performance, love and support too. Last but not least, Yamuna extends her heartfelt gratitude to her students of "Sapthaswara Sangeethalaya" Academy of Fine Arts who have always been with her in thick and thin and for extending their love and support towards this project. Yamuna has totally dedicated this song unto the Lotus Feet of Kallumalai Murugan and strictly no commercialization. She believes this divine piece of sheer hardwork, struggle and love for Kallumalai Murugan would reach and capture millions of hearts all around the globe.
