Really, tragically underrated entry in their discography. I've always marveled at the incredible synergy between rhythm, melody, and harmony displayed on this track especially. People who say this album is too texturally homogeneous are missing the point: It's about movement, people! The melodies propel themselves forward, swirl around, explode in jet bursts, trickle quietly, languish in the dark, and cascade down around you---all within the span of a single track. This is dope shit. I challenge anyone to name a modern rock composer who employs woodwind and brass instruments as masterfully and elegantly as Toby Driver.
so very much contextual to the genre. they're a true avant-garde rock band and i hope they keep on this extraordinary music production. thanks for the upload. :)
Toby Driver has always maintained he doesn't play or even listen to jazz. Especially started on that tip after some reviewers called BLD jazz. But then again, he has also mentioned being influenced by Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock, not to mention his mentor in college was Yusef Lateef. So I don't know how much to buy it. There's clearly elements of jazz in KD's music, even if it is not 'jazz' as such.

This should,be praised as a modern jazz classic. If I would put any category on them it would actually be jazz.
