    The appeal for me is that Batman could be anyone. No super powers, no mutation. Just someone that wants to help make things better. Been a fan since I was little and watched the Micheal Keaton/Jack Nickolson.

    Loved this one as Batman is my favorite. The world of Gotham is so rich with history and story, the depth of the villains and side characters. He has one of the coolest looking costumes, and lives in the darkest yet most colorful city. Definitely agree with all the things you said. There are just so many layers to every aspect of Batman and his world, I don't think any other character has quite so much story behind them.

    His trained mind, willpower and how he exemplifies the best qualities of human potential. The extensive rogues gallery. Bruce cares for for his family and fights the pain to save others from what he went through. A selfless guy that you want on your side who is dead silent when he wants to be. From sneaking up to goons and avoiding the most precise extrasensory beings like Superman. His escapist skills are amazing to the point of seemingly being magically based in nature. Even his enemies come to respect him,:imagine being so renown, awesome and feared that you gain your adversary's admiration on some level. A true testament of reaching high and punching way above your weight and standing on the side of justice.
    "You don't quite have his magnificent brain, for instance; you do have his heart though, and for all that fierce exterior, I've never met anyone who cared as deeply about his fellow man." Amanda Waller

    Ever since I saw the Batman 1966 tv show as a kid in the early 70’s, I have always been a Batman fan. He is the hero that I’ve stuck with for 50 years. The main thing that stands out for me is his various villains. From the big ones like Joker, Penguin and Riddler to the tv show created ones like King Tut and Egghead, it just seems like Batman has more common enemies than any other hero. The fact that he is flawed too makes him more “realistic”(?).

  • @bronzevillecomics2581

    Batman speaks to each generation, whether it's those amazing original stories by Kane (? maybe not), Finger, and Robinson, the campy stuff leading to the TV series, the new look Infantino books, the amazing reimagining by O'Neil & Adams, Dark Knight, and the more modern stories with Hushm, Red Hood, Damian, Court of Owls, etc.

    Very comprehensive James, with some aspects of Batman I'd never considered. I thought that Batman as a figure who brings fear to criminals was well done in the sequence at the start of Matt Reeves' 'The Batman'. Batman/Bruce is certainly an anguished character and among the most relatable heroes at both DC and Marvel.

    I think the character allows people to vicariously live through as what they hope or imagine they'd be if they were superheroes (an ordinary human but one able to tap into the peak of potential); and the inherent darkness makes it more palatable as opposed to the 'kids stuff' verve of other characters. I think it's why people like darker DC movies or Snyderverse or whatever so much, taking the genre seriously legitimizes the fandom for appealing to adults or people well past childhood, and makes us feel like it's speaking to complex issues or truths about the human condition, and not just biff bam pow.

  • @calebleland8390
    @calebleland8390 Před rokem

    Being born in the mid 70s, I grew up on Batman. As a kid, I read the comics and watched Adam West in reruns, and I loved both the camp of the TV series and the dark stories I read in the books. I saw the rise of Batmania when Burton's first film came out, I was engrossed in the animated series (so much so that when I read a Batman comic, it's Kevin Conroy's voice that I hear). I lived through the Jean-Paul Valley's tenure in the cowl after Bruce was crippled by Bane, the shame of Batman & Robin (I actually saw that one in the theatre, and wish I hadn't), and the return to the top of the mountain with the Justice League series, Nolan's films, and his presence in every form of media from TV, movies, comics, video games, etc. To me, Batman is whatever someone wants him to be. There is a version of the Caped Crusader for everyone, from The Brave and The Bold marketed to younger audiences to the Arkham games for those who prefer The Dark Knight to be edgier and more violent. And no matter who you are or what version you love, he's still Batman. Thanks for this video, James.

    First of, i liked Marvel more than DC and Spider-Man was my favorite hero since i was little, but when i watched your channel and Salazar Knight's channel i was more intrigued with DC! Now i preffer DC more than Marvel and also Batman became my favorite hero and fictional character ever! Now why i think Batman lasted sooo long and it will last forever in my opinion is because he's a normal human. True, he needs to be boosted when you are telling stories cuz come on, it's fiction. He stills feel the most realistic. His villains are also the best in comics. He does have a lot of movies and shows with two great voice actors that are now the definitive voices for Batman and Joker (Rest in peace Kevin, and thank you 🙏). Arkham series holds a special place in my heart and i'm convinced that many people fell in love with Batman becuase of these games. I find Robin to be an interesting idea and Dick is one of my favorite characters in comics! The suit design, the gadgets, and the vehicles of Batman!👌
    His backstory, motivation and his gothic city. The fact that he trained so hard to become what he is now is fantastic! I could go on and on and maybe these are the most basic stuff of why people love Batman, but you already said a lot of great things in the video. Love the channel, keep up, man!🔥🦇

    I think what has made Batman have a long shelf is how varried he can unlike most of his peers (in Marvel or even DC its self). You can have a Batman story in Victorian England or you can have a story where he's cracking down on Soviet espionage and still have it intresting or compelling.
    Not to mention Batman has one of most varried rogues gallery only rivaled to Spiderman. I mean think about it, how many people can name drop more then 10 Superman or Iron Man Villians who arent serious comic fans?
    Also Bruce just being a normal dude aids into his appeal (a rich dude but still just a dude at the end). Plus his idea he doesnt want anyone end up like him makes him a compelling and father like figure to alot of people. Bruce may be just a rich guy but he's helped and changed the lives of so many (for better or for worst).
    And thats is why Batman is so popular after all these 80+ years

So I was watching a CZcams series in the latest storyarc of Batman, so it's the story set around a new villain Failsafe, not even halfway in the explanation of the story, I was so excited, intrigued, dazzled, went on Ebay started buying the issues. Batman just usually have the best writers artists, villains, innovations, stories etc.

    He's a combo of Dick Tracy and Dracula two of my favorite characters! Secondly, Gotham City is loaded with all kinds of wacky villains and crooks; that's why the more "realistic" an approach a writer takes, the less I like it! For me, these elements separate Bats from less interesting characters like The Shadow or The Punisher!

  • @AnthonyOldhandGarcia
    @AnthonyOldhandGarcia Před rokem

    His intelligence and the hard work to solve crimes and studying his criminals how they think and operate to be out there on foot to fight crime all by himself, though with some help with Gotham P.D., Robin and Alfred sometimes just makes Batman very intresting and a bit real as far as the story telling and what he goes through both mentally and physically. Not easy at all yet tiring.
    But it's in his blood and the oath he took to protect the city he loves with determination and drive just makes him for what Batman is but deep down inside behind his cowl he's just a man with a lot of his mind as he's weary knowing he can't go for far too long. The heavy equipment he wears and as he gathers himself together to go out at night seeking those whom are roaring and looking for trouble at night just makes difficult at times for Bruce to even keep up anymore especially when it comes to the Rogues Gallery, very tough villains he has faced for decades on in.
    Nightwing, Batgirl and Batman Beyond, all three should take up the mantle of the Batman in one accord to protect Gotham City, when Batman is gone for good, and to remain a legend forever.
    But yeah when the Bat-signal lights the city skies at night, don't mess around. No telling what mood Batman is in if he feels to have liberties to beat someone to a pulp lol.
    As Marvel guy Batman is my favorite DC character.
    Nice review and cool.

    Oh, by the way, off topic but I'd like to mention something, I think I know another reason why nobody is really collecting Superman. One of the big things with comic collecting is finding key issues as in first apearences of major suporting characters and villains. Superman kinda lacks in that department, a lot of Supermans key characters and villains debuted in either the 30's, 40's, 50's, and 60's and those comics are expensive beyond belief, the 70's and 80's despite my liking of those stories they don't introduce any major characters, major characters are in them but nobody major is introduced. It isn't until the death of superman story where major characters are introduced again.
