South African farmers pessimistic about the future

Pessimism among South African farmers appears to be setting in.
That's according to the Agri/IDC Agricultural Confidence Index published earlier this week.
The gauge remained steady at 40 index points in the first quarter of 2024.
This, after falling by 10 points in the fourth quarter of last year, from 50 points in the third quarter.
Short-term and longer-term pressures are not giving local farmers and agri-businesses any cause for cheer.
