Quick Hitch to Conventional Harness - A Different World for May the Cob

  • Little May came to us having been broken and driven in Quick Hitch harness. For her, Conventional "tug and britching" harness was different and she found getting used to some aspects of her 'new world' little unsettling. Luckily, her owner noticed she was not fully happy in her new job as a family driving pony and decided to send her to us for some confidence training.

I absolutely love what you said about a horse's love and loyalty and how they would go to the ends of the earth, on their knees if necessary, for you. Brought a tear to my eye and made me think of all that they've done for us in the past. Humanity would not be where it is today if it wasn't for the help of horses.

Your wisdom is music to my ears Barry, your phylosophy of 'they would do anything for you, and never judge you, don't care what colour you are or whether you are thin or fat, black or white' went straight to my heart because if we all lived by this phylosophy there would hopefully never be any more wars, that said 'humans' as a species would probably find some excuse to fight, but animals never ever let us down. If a dog attacks then imho it's usually the fault of mans interferance in its life somewhere along the way. I wish that all people were like you Barry as the world would be such a better place. God Bless you and thank you also for your wonderful videos, always so calming and relaxing to watch, something so welcome when having reached the age of 70 is much appreciated in this crazy world in which we now live. Jan.

What a little darlin’. Love how her silky mane floats in slo mo like angel’s feathers, and love her cute little varnished black hooves shining through her creamy feathers, trimmed to perfection. And noticed how she soaped up her comfy rubber bit in contentment …. You can hear that she feels Safe, Confident and happy through her happy rhythmic little hoof beats …. You’re both so blessed to have been put together, ……….. poetry in motion. Thankyou for taking us on your the journey

This was part way through May's training where she was not yet 'holding her line' as we call it. We allow inexperienced horses to wander a little (so long as it is safe) before they learn to hold a line, as overcorrecting all the time can be confusing and indeed harden their mouth. May is also very light mouthed, yes!

    Quick Request Please?!
I Hope you Dont Mind Explaining the Crucial Difference between Discipline and Punishment.
Especially to Clarify it for people who dont Seem to Understand the Difference.
Im Not here to cause Any Arguements,, but it is Something that Gets to me,
~When Ive seen Unfair "Correction" of a Horses understandable behaviour.
    Thank you Rhi and Barry.
(Sorry if this is a Hot Topic~ but the difference Seems Clear to You and Most Folks Here!!)
    Respectfully,
    Andrea and Jasper. ...XxX....

I'd say that discipline is setting boundaries that the pony can learn, work within, and feel comfortable with. Everyone needs boundaries - kids, dogs, horses, boyfriends... ;) Punishment is when they don't adhere to a boundary that hasn't been made clear, mostly, very rare to find a horse with a truly bad bone in it's body x

Hi Andrea, as people below has said - discipline is firm but fair expectations and boundaries. People use the phrase 'to discipline a horse' (or indeed dog, child, etc.) to mean they they are punished for wrongdoing. What we mean by discipline is that the horse is taught what is expected of them and hopefully will never need 'punishment'. Barry describes it as the kind of discipline it takes to get yourself (or a child to) out of bed in the morning and brush your teeth and go to work (or school) or go to bed on time, which you may not want to do and nobody is whipping you (punishing) to make you do it, but those are the rules and that is what is expected so that is what you do. Hope that helps!

I've trained about a dozen ponies but was struggling with my mare.. carr brings her in season.. sent away for training, returned with sore back. Nearly a year ago and still 3 bald spots. She's not unhappy but... Another thing that can go wrong eh

Hi, sorry to hear about your troubles with your mare. Take a look at this video which mentions Hannah the ISH having trouble with her seasons. We don't often turn to medication, but Regumate turned her from undriveable because she came into season in the cart and harness, to a good, reliable driving mare. czcams.com/video/T_SV1k6xRoY/video.html and czcams.com/video/hW7R-75ZcSU/video.html

When in Genesis 6, God tells Moses how it grieved him that he made man because of the evil in the world, God was going to destroy the animals too. Man was given animals, domestic and wild for God's purposes on earth.
